I'm a computer science graduate from the University of North Texas! While I was studying there, I provided peer-tutoring for 2 years at the school's Learning Center. I found that helping other students get back on track with their studies gave me a lot of fulfillment. I found that I felt especially fulfilled when I could see the learner have their "Aha!" moment. Seeing the sparkle in their eye as it all clicked together made tutoring worth every second. At the UNT Learning Center, I was trained in Bloom's taxonomy and Andragogic learning principles. This means that my tutoring style caters to learners seeking to become independent in their learning. It is my mission to tutor people so they won't need me anymore.

Lets be real for a moment. Learning is fun, but sometimes the process needs a little adaptation. With that being said, I try to incorporate a new way of looking at and learning about a subject or topic. Now that you know about how I approach teaching, allow me to go into detail on my tutoring experience. During my graduate degree program, I focused on teaching and training others in the art of teaching and learned that each student has her or his own way of discovering the world around them. I acquired this knowledge through developing not only a passion for each student as a unique individual with a way of approaching the various concepts they must learn. My qualifications include a Masters degree in Human Communication with a bachelors in Bible and Communication with over four years of teaching experience within a variety of subject areas including American Sign Language, Communication/Public Speaking, remedial Math and Science, and English. In my free time, I like spend time with friends and family, play with my service dog Grey, and observe nature in its natural state. Lets do this!

I am passionate about helping students because I remember the feeling when I felt lost in class and had a hard time understanding what was even going on. I previously tutored elementary students for two years and loved every moment. Majority of the time, I tutor elementary students with English and Math. However, I have also taught a few classrooms English (like learning the body parts) when I travelled to Rwanda and Cambodia. I loved teaching children English in a fun way. I believe that learning should be fun and it's the teacher/tutor's responsibility to find the right way of teaching for every student (especially when it comes to 1:1 tutoring or even when teaching young students).

Hello, I am eager to help K-8 students in all subjects. I have some creative ways such as rhymes and mnemonic devices to make lessons relatable and to help information stick. I can also work with students to help them stay organized and hopefully a few weeks ahead in their curriculum. These same strategies can help adult learners with certification exams.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." - Lao Tzu. Many instructors mistakenly approach the task of teaching with the narrow goal of imparting knowledge of a single lesson or unit to their students, forgetting to train such students how to obtain such knowledge independently. They also forget to connect the gained knowledge to other units and disciplines. The more connections a student makes, the more they are able to retain and apply the new material. I strive to approach tutoring sessions from Lao Tzu's perspective and I enjoy the challenge of taking a concept that is confusing to a student and turning into a crystal clear idea. I accomplish this by asking thought provoking questions that walk students through logical processes. They eventually learn to navigate through logical processes with less direction. Additionally, I understand that no two students think alike and once I determine how an individual student processes information, then I can quickly devise a lesson tailored to that particular student.I am very patient and down to earth with students. Having a good relationship with them is essential to building the trust needed for them to be comfortable in taking the risk to solve a problem independently.I have experience teaching Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB at the high school level and I've taught College Algebra. I also tutored math subjects ranging from algebra to calculus and science subjects such as chemistry, physics, and biology at the Math and Science Center for Killeen ISD.Besides being a teaching professional, I also enjoy playing tennis, doing anything outdoors, studying the Bible, and painting.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Texas in Interdisciplinary and soon followed that with a Masters degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in Curriculum and Instruction. I am certified in early childhood through 6th grade teaching as well as an English as a second language instructor. I currently teach prekindergarten for the Arlington ISD however, prior to my prekindergarten position I was an English as a second language intervention teacher for Advantage Academy in Grand Prairie, assisting students from kindergarten through middle school. I have also worked with middle school students as an English as a second language education aide. As and ESL interventionist and ESL education aide, I was able to assist students with understanding instruction in their classrooms as well as provide strategies for teachers for ESL instruction. Even the majority of my prekindergarten students are ESL students and for that reason, I continually use music, songs, and visuals to assist in my instruction as well as fun games to help with learning. I love to teach reading and writing as these are subjects areas necessary for all other subject areas but I have also developed a love of math. I have a son that is ADHD and never felt he got the quality of education he should have and that is one reason I went back to school to become a teacher. I am passionate about doing as much as possible for all of my students, to help them achieve academic success.

I received a BA in Spanish from the University of North Texas with a minor in Music and I received a Master's in Spanish from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where I worked as a Spanish teacher, translator and guest lecturer. During my time in graduate school, I also worked for the University Writing Center as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor to international students. When I graduated in 2013, I continued teaching ESL to adult learners at Austin Community College before moving to Dallas this year. While I am most qualified to teach Spanish and English, I have over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages in a variety of subjects. While obtaining my BA, I had the opportunity to study in Spain, where I also held regular ESL tutoring sessions for a family and a businessman, and I was able to study ethnomusicology in Ghana, where I volunteered at a local elementary school tutoring students in English. After completing my undergraduate degree, I received my ESL certification from Seattle University and was soon offered a job in Hungary, where I taught ESL to middle school students. After returning to the US, I continued teaching in my hometown of Austin, Texas while also pursuing my other passion, music. I believe students learn best when they are motivated by something that interests them. One of my strategies for kindling interest among students is to encourage students to make connections with their peers and the wider world by employing student-centered learning techniques. In addition to teaching, I am a visual artist and a musician. In my free time, I spend a lot of time outdoors, riding my bike and hiking.

I began teaching/tutoring high school math in 1984. I taught all levels of high school math, from PreAlgebra through AP Calculus, for 11 years. After moving into an instructional leadership position, I have continued to tutor students and sub for classroom teachers. Math is a participation sport. Even though it is considered an academic subject, achieving success in math is more like becoming a good musician, a good athlete, or a good artist. You need to think about it, practice it, and talk about it with others on a regular basis or you probably won't become very good at it. If you study math like you study History, Science, or English, you are likely to have struggles. Students become successful in math the same way they become successful athletes, musicians, and crafters: practicing. When you work with me, you will do most of the talking/working (if I do most the talking/work, you won't understand or remember very much). When you work with me, expect a patient person who has seen every kind of misunderstanding possible in math. I quickly determine what you do/don't understand and coach you to become better at that skill and meet the learning targets you have set for yourself!

I have been tutoring for over three years, and have created an ESL class at a local church to help serve my community. Many students seek help from an ESL teacher for a specific reason. It could be to raise their TOEFL scores, strengthen their communication skills for their job, or for a better quality of life while living in an English speaking country. Whatever the reason, I am here to help my students to the best of my ability. My teaching philosophy is that I aim to motivate my students, while instilling confidence. Biology is my most favorite. In my teaching style I try to connect students with the subject their learning. Making learning come to life, so that it will not only stick in the student brain, but so they can use it in their everyday life. Going through school as a pre-med student, has taught me a lot when it comes to learning. You can't only rely on memorizing facts, but you have to be able to learn and comprehend facts. That's what I try to teach my students.
