I have earned my Bachelor's in Mathematics at the University of North Texas, and a PhD in Mathematics Education at Texas State University. Since graduation, I have been working as a Professor of Instruction at universities. I have taught many years at the university level over all levels of mathematics. Predominantly, this has been with algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus students. My philosophy for teaching is to prepare my students with a foundation in the content of the course as well as how to apply that knowledge in new contexts. I strive to learn new things every day. I graduated from the University of North Texas two years ago, and I find myself drawn to learning environments and seeking out new knowledge. I am conversational in German and constantly read novels that are written in German. As for History, I tutored with my university for five semesters, and created different activities that were later incorporated to the program. Art History is a personal favorite of mine and it is one of the two degrees I hold, the other being Anthropology.Having taught many different types of people, I learned that there is no one way to teach someone. Everyone learns differently and it is important to find out the learning style that fits each student, while still being able to have fun. When working with groups this can be hard at times, different people will learn at different paces, and so it is always important to remember to keep everyone interested and paying attention. Creating activities for a group atmosphere is something that I have a lot of experience with and excel at. Lastly, I believe that one of the most important things to keep in mind is relating the information back to the students interests, keeping them motivated and excited to learn more.

I strive to approach tutoring sessions from Lao Tzu's perspective and I enjoy the challenge of taking a concept that is confusing to a student and turning into a crystal clear idea. I accomplish this by asking thought provoking questions that walk students through logical processes. They eventually learn to navigate through logical processes with less direction. Additionally, I understand that no two students think alike and once I determine how an individual student processes information, then I can quickly devise a lesson tailored to that particular student.I am very patient and down to earth with students.
