In high school I took advanced STEM courses at the University of North Texas through a high school program called the Texas Academy of Math and Science. I saw almost 75% of my anatomy class drop out of class because they were failing. However, I truly believe they just needed additional tutoring. I finished three weeks before my daughter was born. Currently, I am the only person who has earned a doctoral degree in the Bassoon. When I began teaching in schools, my first job was teaching Elementary Music and Gifted and Talented classes. I then taught fifth grade Social Studies and moved on to high school Biology and middle school Science. I have also been a professor of music at Oklahoma City University for over ten years. I'm certified to teach Math, Science, and Music, but I also have a passion for History, World Cultures, Study Skills, and Writing. I have been teaching private bassoon and oboe lessons for 20 years and feel very blessed to be both a professional performer and educator. I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of North Texas. Once I graduated, I quickly landed my dream position as a second grade math and science teacher. I then transferred to a school closer to home, to teach 4th grade. I quickly fell in love with teaching older students my favorite subject, math! After four years with 4th grade, I was moved to 5th grade math and social studies. I soon realized I loved the conversations that my classes and I would have when reading articles or learning about the American Revolution. After one year in 5th grade, I decided to go back to school to obtain my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University. My ten years in teaching have taught me alot, but the most important is that every child learns differently.
