I recently received my master degree from the University of North Texas at Dallas Health Science Center. I graduated with a masters in medical science. Prior to that I recieved my bachelors in Biology at UTD. I have always been passionate about teaching. It keeps me honest in reviewing and relearning information. It also ensures I am constantly working my brain to create new innovative routes to recall, retain, and transform what I know. My favorite subject to teach has always been in the realm of biology. I feel it is the most easily visualized science, which is my preferred method of teaching. I am also proficient in teaching english through my work in teaching refugees and holding ESL classes for adults. Due to my academic background I am also well versed in admissions, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, biostatistics for health sciences at highschool, college, and graduate schoo levels. I am also fluent hindi, english, and have an intermediate proficiency in spanish. Overall, I'm dedicated to helping prospective students reach their dream score/grade.

I graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences. I am currently pursuing a M.S. in Medical Science at the University of North Texas Health Science Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. My goal is to become a physician so I may work alongside my peers to combat health disparities and educate patients. As education is a major determinant of health outcomes, I hope to empower patients, families, and entire communities with knowledge so they may live a higher quality of life.I spent time volunteering as a tutor for the American Chemical Society at the University of Houston. In this role, I was able to help students find simple solutions to solve challenging problems in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Working with others to guide them towards achieving their goals was very fulfilling for me. I strive to provide strategies that are individualized to the needs of each of my students. I experienced a sense of fulfillment when I receive positive emails from students after they perform well on a test or pass a class.I decided to become a Varsity Tutor because I realized that students might be seeking for extra academic help as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that I can help students in a wide variety of academic endeavors, from grade school and college-level math and science courses to SAT and MCAT prep.As your tutor, I hope to guide you towards academic success. However, I hope to learn from you as well. As a future physician, I plan to continue sharing knowledge with peers and patients. By serving as your tutor, I will continue building on my communication and leadership abilities so I can maximize my effectiveness as a physician. Thus, I plan to work alongside you so we may reach our goals together.

Get to know me professionally: Why are you passionate about helping students? I understand that navigating different forms of coursework can be difficult, especially as you continue to progress in your academic career. I believe that careful consideration should be given to how you study for a particular subject, and I am passionate about helping other students determine the best practice for them so they can strengthen their academic independence. Describe your experience working with students. I spent the latter half of my high school years tutoring my peers in addition to continued mentoring and tutoring in undergrad as well in two specific roles. As an Advisor, I provided mentorship and guidance to first-years throughout the entirety of their inaugural semesters in college and beyond. As a Fellow, I worked in intensive, monthlong programs to tutor, mentor, and prepare incoming freshmen for a collegiate education in STEM fields, though I continued to serve outside of this role during the academic year as well. In addition, I spent about two years teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level. Where did you get your education? What degree(s) have you attained? B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Rice University, 2017 M.S. in Medical Sciences, University of North Texas Health Science Center, 2019 What degree(s) are you working toward? M.D., University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, 2025 What subjects do you tutor? Mostly STEM-related What is your favorite subject(s) to tutor, and why? I don't have a particular favorite. Different subjects require different academic mindsets and I most enjoy exploring potential approaches and finding success in that process. How would you describe your teaching philosophy and your tutoring style? My personal teaching philosophy and tutoring style revolves around the idea: "You can do hard things!" I am comfortable being as hands-on as you would like and need, but my goal is to help others build academic confidence and independence in their own abilities so that they will be better served in the entirety of their academic careers, not just with the subject in which I am tutoring. I work hard with each student to help not only myself but help them assess their strengths and weaknesses for each subject. My approach is not "one size fits all." Instead, I listen carefully to each student and work with them on reviewing and completing their actual school materials and assignments to help them efficiently develop mastery over a subject. What interests you outside of academia? Both inside and outside of academia, I find myself drawn to experiences and opportunities that expand and challenge my worldview. I am always striving to become a better version of myself and deeply value the benefits of introspection and personal growth.

I was influenced by my family to pursue a career in medicine. My mother was an MD/PhD Pathologist in China. When we moved to the US, she first worked as a research scientist at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston, and later she had her pathology residency at UTMB. She is now a surgical pathology fellow at Houston Methodist Hospital. My mother would teach me medical knowledge whenever she got a chance. I aspire to be a physician that is hardworking, passionate, and careful for the patients. I am determined and willing to put in the work to accomplish this goal.In 2011, to pursue the dream of becoming a physician, I entered Baylor University with a Baylor Gold Scholarship and a Jones Scholarship from Houston Jones Scholars. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-med track in the Honors Program. First of all, I study diligently for each subject in the pre-med program. I am also taking music classes for a Music Minor, because I enjoy playing piano and guitar. Music has trained my patience and carefulness, and it has helped me quickly spot minor errors. Overall, I have maintained an Honors status throughout my college career.Since my junior year, I have worked as an official undergraduate tutor at Baylor University, a spot I earned with high grades in classes such as Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. I was selected from hundreds of applicants through a highly competitive interview by the tutoring center. Tutoring can be challenging. In the most difficult sessions, I revisited and retaught material. This requires me to go over the material and also make sure the students understand confusing concepts. I have to be very patient and creative in my teaching. While this might frustrate some tutors, I fully enjoy my job as a tutor. Not only does it give me a sense of accomplishment when I have educated someone on a subject he or she previously did not understand, but it is also a good practice of patience and teaching styles I will need as a future physician.I shadowed Dr. Sunil Jain, a pediatrician at UTMB, during summer in 2012. In the same summer, I also volunteered at St. Vincent's Free Clinic in Galveston both weekdays and weekends. Supervised by UTMB faculties and 4th year medical school students, I was in charge of the paperwork for reduced-cost medicine in low-income families. I also assisted in various medical procedures. I volunteered at Hillcrest Cancer Center. There, I got to know the cancer patients on a personal level and found out what kind of hardships they were going through. I regularly volunteer at the Waco Family Abuse Center. Working in medicine, I will master the skills of diagnosis, work continually to improve my quality of understanding of medicine, and educate my future patients so they can make choices for healthy lives. My curiosity for the medical field has drawn me to the medical research happening around Baylor University. I use my spare time in between classes and the weekend working in Dr. Myeongwoo Lee's lab as an undergraduate researcher. My research project is generating double gene mutations of the pat-3(sp) mutation and the pat-3(+) mutation crossed with the SK4005 mutation on c. elegans nematodes. Many genes in c. elegans are homologous to human genes. To investigate the role of the above gene mutations in the development of c. elegans is to further understand the mechanism of human neurodegenerative diseases. To open my eyes to different cultures in the world, I applied and was selected to be part of a pre-med study abroad semester in Maastricht, Netherlands. In Maastricht, I studied both for the classes taught by Baylor professors and the Maastricht University professors. I was introduced to the European culture in my free time. I visited many placesBerlin, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Interlaken, Florence, and London. I marveled at the unique building structures, food, and customs each place had. I was impressed by the different histories of each country I toured.I believe medicine is a challenging career. I am ready to face the hard work of being a medical school student to study the mechanisms of various diseases, continual learning, and educating patients. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with students as I coach them to practice strong study habits and academic success.

During pharmacy school, I was a tutor for pharmacy students at my school. I primarily tutor science and math. The first thing I do when tutoring is learn about the student. It is helpful for me to know the student's learning style, challenges and struggles with the subject, and their study habits. I also enjoy learning what the student likes to do outside of school. All of this information helps me cater the tutoring session to the student.Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time with my husband, being outside, gardening, fishing, crafting, playing games, and eating food with my family and friends. It's important to spend time doing things you enjoy even when school is busy and overwhelming. It's the best way to give your mind a refresh and return to your studies refocused!

A famous author, John Carrick, once said "Knowledge is the greatest power and it is something no one can see. It cannot be stolen or broken, No one can take it from you." This quote was something that has stuck with me and is a constant reminder and is why I have a strong passion for education and getting the most out of it. This passion I have is what often drives me down the path of teaching. Although I am not a teacher, I have always been heavily involved in volunteer tutoring and mentoring.I am currently a student in a Doctor of Pharmacy program and I have a degree in Biochemistry with minors in Biology and Spanish. When it comes to teacher my background includes volunteer tutoring for the past 8 years for ages 6-12 and being an after school program teacher aide where I usually pulled students out or was available for after school tutoring. As I moved through my leveled of education I realized that my tutoring demographic was expanding. Because of this, I have gained communication skills on varying levels for different groups of people. Whether it was 1st grade or 1st year of college I have learned to mold my teaching styles to what best works for the student so they leave feeling confident and are able to teach it back to me.My tutoring background primarily includes elementary school, all subjects, but mainly math and science. I do have some experience in Biology, Genetics, and intro level Spanish. I love Nutrition and often get the nickname of "Health Guru" amongst my friends, so teaching Nutrition is something I would also be interested in. Although I have not taught Health/Nutrition in a school setting, as a pharmacy student, I often volunteer at Health Fairs. I am usually put in charge of the nutrition education area which allows me to educate the public about what is in their food, how to be aware of that and how to read labels.Outside of studying, some of my hobbies include: traveling, hiking, rock climbing, and really anything outdoors. I am always trying to learn something, whether it is a new language or a new instrument. I love meeting new people and interacting with others. In addition to getting to know people, I love studying personality types and have a strong interest in psychology. I like to study personality types because I believe for the most effective communication you have to know who you're talking to and what their method of learning or comprehension is.

I started out tutoring my peers while I attended college at Texas State University, where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. When I was not studying, my time was consumed by many activities including my job as a medical scribe in the emergency department of Seton Hays Hospital and my membership with my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. I volunteered on weekends through the Ronald McDonald House Charities and San Marcos's local Senior Citizens Home. After college, I decided to continue my education and pursue a medical degree. I am currently enrolled in the Medical Sciences program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. While I await decisions from medical schools, my time consists of working out, running outside, eating mac & cheese, and now tutoring those who were once in my shoes.I want to provide those in need with the skills to become the best versions of themselves through the arms of education.
