I am a senior at the University at Albany pursuing a degree in Accounting with a strong academic record and consistent Dean's List recognition. I started college exploring different academic paths, which shaped the way I approach learning and problem solving today. I currently tutor upper level coursework and focus on helping students understand complex material, improve their reasoning, and build confidence in their work. My approach is adaptable and student focused, emphasizing clarity, structure, and practical understanding rather than memorization. Alongside my academics, I am an intern with a Big Four firm and a large wealth management company and have held multiple leadership roles on campus. I aim to be approachable, patient, and straightforward, and I enjoy helping students work through challenges and feel more confident in their abilities.
I am a graduate of Brooklyn College. I have been an elementary teacher for 11 years. I have worked in New York City public schools as a dance teacher, a substitute teacher and a full-time teacher. I have taught abroad in Colombia and Brazil. As a child, I always loved to learn. Reading and writing was always very fun for me. I have seen many of my students struggle to read and write in the beginning of the year. Then to see their improvement at the end of year brings me such joy. I believe learning can be fun and enjoyable. If it isn't, then teachers and tutors need to find the root of the problem. Sometimes a student just needs some extra time and explanation. Sometimes there is a learning disability. Either way, teachers are here to help students to have successful learning experiences and guide them to move into a life long love of learning. I was not a good math student growing up. I hated math and I struggled so much. I didn't become good at math until I got to high school. I have a lot of compassion for students when they struggle with a subject. I know how it feels. Most students want to be good at school. It is very rewarding for me to help a student improve in a subject and then gain more confidence in themselves.
I recently graduated from the University at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Communications. I will apply the skills and knowledge I learned there in my role as your tutor. In addition to my formal education, I spent a year working as a teacher's assistant at The Bronx Community College for the FYS program. I also volunteered at MASA in New York City, where I tutored children between the ages of six to thirteen on a wide range of subjects. In my other job roles, I've done mainly Customer Service related positions. This experience has allowed me to interact with and support children and adults with a range of abilities in their lessons and activities. During this time, I also learned different teaching styles that work best with different types of learners and just different interactive styles in general. As an enthusiastic tutor, I am dedicated to enabling that young minds grow and achieve as well as that mature minds will expand. I am confident my experience and teaching style will make all the difference in your educational journey.
My interest in education stems from my love of learning and the fact that I mostly enjoyed being a student during my years in school. I naturally gravitated toward tutoring and teaching because of their creative aspects. Since we all learn differently, I believe lessons should follow suit. And although I have followed the path of education workwise, I received my degree from the University at Albany as an East Asian Studies major and an English minor because of my love of culture and language.I feel that other languages are not only fun but important, so I spent two years in China teaching ESL to middle schoolers though I didn't know the language. It gave me the opportunity to learn as much as my students were learning every day.The majority of my experience is in teaching students of a younger age, but I have taught those of all ages so that I can be comfortable with whichever.
