I am a magna cum laude undergraduate of Alvernia University, Reading, PA, with a BA in English. I am also a magna cum laude 2000 graduate of Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA, with a MA in English, where I was also a graduate assistant. I have been a professional adjunct lecturer and tutor at the college level for thirty years. I now teach solely at Alvernia University. I teach primarily in the Communication Department but have also taught Literature courses, Health Care Science writing courses, and I am now a Search Instructor (first year experience) and first-year advisor. I have professional credits at the bachelor's level in philosophy, theology, education, and addictions and mental health, holding a Behavioral Health certificate. I have master's level reading specialist professional credits and doctoral level professional credits in leadership. I also hold a teaching certificate for Pennsylvania Private Academic Schools, English, Secondary Education. I am the Faculty Advisor the Lamba Sigma Honors Society chapter at Alvernia University. I believe that students should be taught how to think, not what to think. I am one of the most popular lecturers on campus as I am known for my kindness, compassion, and sense of humor. My education has given me the skills I need to be a tutor and teacher, but it is being a mother, daughter and friend first that is the foundation of my teaching philosophy. I chose a life of serving others, and I believe that becoming the best version of yourself is the life goal that matters most.

I have my B.A. in History and a Master's in Urban Education, and my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. I have been a high school history teacher for 20 years in Reading, Pennsylvania. For about 8 of those years, I have been a college professor at a community college, teaching various courses in their social sciences department. I believe that all children can become better learners with support and assistance. I grew up in a situation where my parents were told that I would not be able to succeed in school because I was a 'trouble' student. This was a first-grade parent-teacher conference, and my mother came home crushed. Luckily, I encountered a teacher who believed in me a few years later. Yet, in that interim, I was placed in remedial classes and subjected to really harsh treatment. It is my perspective from years of teaching that students appreciate being treated kindly and fairly.

I want to share my love of the English Language with others through skill building and creative approaches. I have had a passion for writing since I started writing creative fiction when I was eight years old. At twenty-four, I still hold tight to that passion. I have written two books, one fantasy novel, and one non-fiction novel about my thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail. I graduated from Alvernia University in 2015 with a dual Bachelor Degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education, where I also worked as a writing tutor all four years. Through the writing center there, I gained a national Tutor I certificate. Throughout my student teaching, I worked in resource rooms, general education classrooms, and schools for behaviorally at-risk students. Since graduating, I also taught my own class of twenty pre-school students for six months. Throughout these opportunities, I loved the common factor of helping others grasp and appreciate new concepts. I spend my free time playing with my many pets, writing, hiking, and cooking vegan dinners for my fiance. I cannot wait to share my experience and ignite the fire of learning in anyone who seeks it.

My name is Sue Mugar and I have been a high school math teacher for 19 years. I LOVE helping kids connect with math and working on their problem solving skills. I look forward to helping you be successful in math class!

I have been a teacher for over 11 years and have tutored for many of those years also. I currently teach 4th grade in the inner city. I have degrees in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, and I also hold my English as a Second Language certificate. Teaching is not only my profession but also my passion. I look forward to working with new students through this tutoring opportunity. I enjoy reading, coaching, spending time with my two sons and my husband, and cheering my students on at their after school activities in my spare time.

I hold a BS from Muhlenberg College in Neuroscience with a minor in music, where I was a certified tutor for 3 years. I am currently enrolled in a Master's of Occupational Therapy program. I tutor subjects including Biology and Psychology, as well as music and some math. My favorite part of teaching students is hearing them explain concepts that they used to struggle with back to me, showing their new expertise. When not at school, I volunteer extensively with the Down syndrome community. I hope to connect soon!

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a Minor in Mathematics from Alvernia University in Reading, PA. I proceeded to work for four years full-time following my undergraduate studies, with one year spent as a dental laboratory technician and three years employed as a nursing assistant. I completed my graduate studies at the University of Saint Joseph, in West Hartford, CT, and achieved a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. In August of 2022, I passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) and became a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C). While I am excited to tutor students in preparation for the PANCE, medicine, medical terminology, and other subjects, my true passion is vested in helping others achieve the goals they have set forth for themselves. I first discovered this enthusiasm serving as a science and mathematics tutor during my undergraduate years, and I feel that it is my responsibility to impart the knowledge that I have gained from my education for the benefit of others. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading and trail running, or any balance of both physical and mental pursuits.

Hi! I'm Amanda and I'm passionate about education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and earned my Master's degree in education as well with a speciality in Children's Literature. I have worked with many young students in the past 6 years in various subject areas. However, phonics and literature are my favorite because we read every single day with everything we do! I believe children learn in various ways - not one, uniform way. I teach the way students learn - by using various strategies and approaches to best reach all learners. Every child can and deserves to learn. My goal is to boost the self-confidence in children to make them better learners and love learning to be successful in all that they do!
