My name is Katie and I'm a recent graduate of Belmont University. I majored in songwriting so I've spent the last four years studying music theory and music publishing, all while churning out songs like nobody's business. I've also written two screenplays and started to dabble in short stories and fiction. So, yes, I am that annoying person with a laptop, hogging a table at your local coffee shop. Basically, I just love stringing words together, regardless of the format. My other great love also happens to be my minor: education. Through my classes at Belmont, not only was I able to study child development, classroom management, lesson planning, and how to meet the needs of diverse learners, but also I had the opportunity to observe and assist in countless schools all over Nashville. Through the years, I've worked with a widely diverse group of students (ages K-12, students with exceptionalities, English Language Learners), all of whom had their own unique set of gifts, struggles, goals, and learning styles. This experience reinforced my belief that EVERY student can learn if they have the right support. And I find it incredibly fulfilling to be that support. As for my tutoring experience, I tutored underclassman my junior and senior year of high school. Mainly, I worked with students who were struggling in English or who needed help developing and editing their papers. More recently, I tutored at Salama Urban Ministries, an after school program for elementary school students with a focus on improving math, reading, and critical thinking skills. I also have an eleven year old little brother, so I've spent the past decade reading with him and helping him with his homework. I like to think I'm tutoring him, whether he knows it or not.Overall, I'm passionate about students. I'm passionate about writing. And I'm passionate about showing kids that writing doesn't have to be as scary or difficult as it may seem.

With experience in tutoring a variety of subjects including Creative Writing, High School English, and Middle School Reading, I aim to cultivate a supportive learning environment where students can build confidence in their reading comprehension. I believe that reading opens doors to countless stories filled with valuable lessons, and my goal is to make this process enjoyable and engaging. Together, we will explore the joy of literature, transforming reading from a chore into a delightful adventure.
Buenos das! I am a native of Nashville, TN, and I received my B.A. in Spanish at Belmont University. I spent my junior year studying abroad in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, which was one of the greatest cultural and linguistic experiences of my life! I have been teaching Spanish since 2014, and I am currently working on my Masters in World Language Education at UGA.I have a great deal of passion for the nuances of the Spanish language, and I love to share it with my students. Masculine/feminine agreement, verb conjugations, the subjunctive tense - these can be tricky concepts to grasp, but my philosophy is that, at the end of the day, it is all about communication. When I'm not teaching, I love cooking, hiking, kayaking, reading, singing, playing my ukulele, and, of course, continuing to gather more knowledge about the Spanish language and cultures.
Whether it is test preparation, English-language skills, essay writing and editing, or scholarship or college entrance applications, I am confident in my ability to help you learn in an encouraging, supportive, and inspiring way.I hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy and an M.F.A. in English, Literature, and Writing. I have published three books, and I have received scholarship grants, including a Fulbright Scholarship, from multiple countries.I have successfully taught English and Philosophy courses for five years in New York City universities, and my teaching evaluations are among the highest at each university. I love great books, good movies, traveling, and music, and I absolutely love teaching.
I am committed to serving others and guaranteeing the success of my students. My passion is helping those in need and alleviating struggle, especially with academics! I especially love working with the French language.I have just completed a Bachelor of Arts in French from Belmont University and am pursuing teaching opportunities related to this degree. I also spent a semester in Angers, France, completing classes at the University located there. I primarily focused on translation, which is one of my favorite things to do with French. I have been lucky enough to get to travel extensively around Europe, which has greatly enriched my language abilities. I have tutored French for two years and have even instructed an adult French course. I love sharing this language with others and helping others understand its many complexities!I am a great test taker and have scored very highly on the ACT, SAT, and AP French exams. I also have completed several upper level English Literature and Writing courses, which qualifies me to aid with literature analysis, essay construction, and other writing struggles. Having studied a foreign language for more than ten years, I am very attuned to the English language as well.My teaching style primarily includes a lot of visual presentation, and putting knowledge into practice through questions and activities. I am constantly striving to adapt my teaching methods for all students. My availability is very flexible, so please contact me even if your schedule doesn't appear to work with mine.
I am currently a student at Belmont University studying Computer Science and Audio Engineering. I am passionate about mathematics and music, and would like to share my skills with students who need help in these subject areas.
I began my career in tutoring as a peer tutor for an introductory biology course at my alma mater, Belmont University. This experience introduced me to a love for environmental education and hands on teaching, and it has encouraged me to continue work in this field. Since then, I have contributed to the environmental education programs at Warner Park Nature Center in Nashville and accepted a position in the fall as a graduate teaching assistant at Austin Peay State University, and I am excited to continue working with students through Varsity Tutors! My areas of expertise are algebra, geometry, environmental science, ecology, and organismal biology.
Greetings! You have, through sheer virtue of your reading this document, decided to consider tutoring as an auxiliary means of learning, to which I applaud you. It is my firm belief, established through both observation and experience, that one-on-one teaching is an excellent (I would argue essential) way to bolster one's learning; for as much as the broad curricula of the day is expertly designed to fit the learning needs of the masses, it will, by nature, leave gaps in the micro-cognition of each student. This is where I and many others come in: to fill those gaps. For true mastery of a subject or field, I believe that having a teacher to take the time and effort with a student towards detailed learning can only, in time, prove beneficial in the grander understanding of a given topic. Every student (everyone, truly, for are we not all students?), in varying degrees of severity, learns differently, takes in the world around them differently, and manifests that information differently. No one teaching method could ever account for the infinite variable of personality and general humanness; hence the importance of one-on-one teaching. I take my position as a tutor seriously for this reason; I approach students with the understanding that they will not all be the same, and that each requires consideration for their respective characters, abilities, and desires. In short, I offer students a chance to learn above the common tide.
I am a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, TN, receiving my Master of Music in Composition. During that time, I also spent a lot of time studying audio engineering and computer programming. Over the past decade, I have taught private lessons and college courses in music technology and computer science. As an educator, I believe one of the most important aspects of learning is hands-on engagement with fun and interesting exercises; it's one thing to have a topic explained, and quite another to actually do it. Beyond my experience as a teacher, I have also spent my spare time working on two passion projects: my recording studio (Tango Sound Studios) and developing video games.
I am a current senior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science. My minors are Biology and Chemistry. My career aspirations are to go to medical school after I graduate undergrad. I have had experience working as a lab tutor for Organic Chemistry, as well as a science tutor in Belmont's Learning Center. I can tutor in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. My favorite subjects to tutor are Chemistry and Physics because I think they are foundational to understanding the upper level science courses. I want to work with students in a way that they feel confident about their ability to complete the work and understand concepts. As a tutor, I will take the responsibility to help students not only be prepared for tests, but also gain an appreciation and joy for learning in every way that I can.
As a current theatre education major at Belmont University, I'm always pondering and reflecting on the why behind what I want to do. I obviously love teaching but more than that, my aspirations are to reach students on a personal level and help them, in any way I can, become the best versions of themselves. I cannot wait to be an educator so that I can do just that. I excel in and am passionate about motivating students and helping them with their organizational skills. Because of my heavy involvement in the arts, I strive to help students find what their passionate about, whatever that may be. I have experience tutoring a variety of subjects and look forward to the things I am going to learn from YOU through this process! I believe every student can succeed; I hope I can be a part of your success journey!
I live, eat, and breathe music. I have degrees from Berklee College of Music and Belmont University. I use American music (blues, jazz, swing, folk) to teach a lot of music topics and I love learning about other musical styles, especially Samba and Bossa Nova.

I want to help my students find as much joy in learning the cello and its rich history as much as I do. That includes not only learning about the great composers, players and works, but the more obscure ones as well.
I am a graduate of the Master's program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, in addition to holding a BFA in Musical Theatre from Belmont University. Since graduating from high school, I have lived in a variety of places, including Nashville, Northern California, London, and, most recently, New York. Due in part to my background in the performing arts, I am most excited about teaching literature, reading comprehension, and English. I also am passionate about helping students polish essays and language skills in preparation for the SAT and ACT. I am a big believer in the values of a strong education, and am committed to helping people develop the skills they will need for the next chapter. In my spare time, I love to see live theater, attend concerts, play with dogs, and read historical biographies.
Hi! My name is Alison, and I am so excited to work with students to develop deeper understandings and find what makes them excited to learn! I believe through studying literature and expanding our understanding of the English language, we can develop skills that are applicable in all areas of life, and have fun while doing it!
When in high school I was self-proclaimed nerd and enjoyed every subject handed to me.I took as many Honors and AP classes available and participated in various clubs and honor societies. I was even part of my schools Academic Team! Now an adult, I have used my love of school to teach and tutor students of all ages! (I also crush it in trivia ;)My approach to teaching is very personalized to each student. I like to find out what their passions are outside of school and use that to connect to subjects they are struggling in or dislike.Having a degree in Music and Theatre, I often use the arts to teach various subjects.I am very excited to begin working with you or your child in the future!

Hi, my name is Ali Valentine, and for the longest time I can remember, I have had a passion instilled in me for learning. This passion is something that my teachers helped me foster through all my steps of education, and I would love to give back by helping your children foster their skills. Knowledge is power, and I want your children to head out into the world with all the power inside of them unleashed in their academic pursuits.
As a 3rd year pharmacy student, I can relate to the challenge of keeping up with difficult coursework. Every student faces a subject that requires extra time and effort, and it is important to have help along the way to stay motivated and get through tough spots. I am not only passionate about learning but also about helping others to achieve their educational goals. My experience as a tutor began at an early age in working with my classmates in subjects such as biology, chemistry, and geometry. In college I spent time with elementary age children at an after school community center working on reading and writing using games and activities. In addition to having worked with middle schoolers on English and social studies homework, I also worked at the senior center as a personal computer tutor. Through my placement in the Junior League of Indianapolis, I worked with School on Wheels, a structured tutoring program involving reading and writing activities in addition to homework assistance. Last year I was a reading tutor for the Nashville public school system, working with second and third grade students on reading and writing. Currently I serve as a volunteer at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in the school program working with children in the inpatient unit. I am passionate about serving my peers and my community.Having fun and finding what motivates students is key to not only wanting to do the work, but also to retaining what they have learned. For example, during my time as a tutor for the Nashville public school system, one student and I had a particularly close connection. She flourished as a student, and in the end wrote a particularly entertaining rap song using the lessons she had learned with me. As a tutor, this is the sort of experience I seek to bring to all my students.
I love teaching and I want to help every student be able to achieve their goals. Everyone is capable of learning and I want to help you unlock your potential. I believe the best way to learn is from a friend who believes in you, so lets be friends!
I'm an avid reader and writer who spends her days assisting authors along their editing journeys. It would be my privilege to work with you and help you in your English career, whatever stage that may be!
In his book Democracy and Education, philosopher John Dewey acknowledges that "since growth is the characteristic of life education is all one with growing; it has no end beyond itself. The criterion of the value of school education is the extent in which it creates a desire for continued growth and supplies means for making the desire effective in fact" (62). These words begin to define why I have chosen to devote my life to this cause. Much of our culture supports the idea that education is merely a means to an end. Many of us trudge through our years in the university with the singular goal of becoming a doctor, lawyer, accountant, or scientist, and think once we achieve this title, our education is over. Yet we couldn't be more wrong. Education is the key to the survival of democracy and the development of the self. As educational leaders John Dewey and Paulo Freire believe healthy democracy requires educated citizens capable of thinking critically and communicating their ideas both clearly and respectfully. As an educator, I believe it is my purpose to equip students to participate in democracy and see themselves as global citizens with a responsibility to their fellow human beings. In this manner, I base much of my approach to education in the theories of critical and expressive pedagogy, believing in the importance of developing the individual voice of the student in the context of the world around them.
I received my Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music (Voice) with a Concentration in Music Business (Honors) from Belmont University. I tutor Music Theory, Aural Skills, Voice, String Bass, and beginner Guitar and Piano. I have 9 years of experience working with students ages 1422, and nearly two decades of experience working with children ages 312 through live music performances and literacy programs at local schools and libraries alongside my mom. I am also a working musician with nearly 20 years of performance experience. When I work with students, I always begin with the individual. I strive to help students connect the concepts we explore to the music they love, helping them maintain their joy for music while finding their own voice and realizing their goals. My mantra with all of my students is, "We are all beginners at something." I believe in lifelong learning and aim to encourage students to accept challenges, take risks, and build confidence through growth and discovery.
I am currently a PhD student in the English department at the University of Texas at Austin. I also hold a Master of Letters in Romantic and Victorian Literature from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, as well as a BA in English (Writing concentration) and a minor in business administration. Prior to pursuing my PhD, I worked as corporate communications consultant and a client manager/tutor coach for high-end tutoring firm in New York City.My tutoring experience is vast as I have worked with refugees as they sought to improve reading, writing, and interview skills, K-6 students as they persevered through phonics and reading comprehension, and high school, undergraduate, and graduate students across disciplines through the brainstorming, drafting, and revising stages of the writing process. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English (literature and writing) and public speaking. In my experience helping students with standardized tests, we always have the most fun and success when partnering together on the Critical Reading and Writing portions of exams. I have also worked communications consultant for several Fortune 500 companies, so yes, I can tell you that the skills we develop in English class really do matter in "the real world."
