I love science and believe it or not so can you! Science is life and applies to everyone everyday. My method of instruction one I have honed since first being certified for Advanced College Level Tutoring in 97'. Over the years I realized that a strict "across the board" curriculum just doesn't work for every student. Everyone is different, has different ways of learning and tolerance for certain types of instruction. Therefore my sessions are customized to each students individual interests, so rest assured you will have fun and gain the proper understanding of your subject matter!
I am passionate about helping students because I have a passion for learning. I am a lifelong student. I believe if we foster a healthy attitude towards learning. We open doors to the world.I began my career over 20 years ago working with children and their families. First as a Recreation Assistant for Parks and Recreation where during the school year I tutored students after school ages 5-17.Next I worked as a preschool teacher on a college campus where I also trained university students. Later on in my career I worked for a non profit organization where we provided free after school tutoring and activities for school age children. In my most recent years I homeschooled my children for the past five years. Also coaching other families who homeschool.I was formally educated at Fresno State University where I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Child Development. I have been teaching for over 25 years. I started out as a 4th grade teacher. I was home with my 2 daughters for 5 years and then started a great job at a charter school. I was a K-12 independent study teacher/literacy specialist, Algebra teacher, and academic coach. I taught at that school for 22 years. I moved to teaching remotely in 2021 and have been doing that ever since. I love math the most but am really strong in English and Science as well. I love social studies and most of all reading! If you like energetic and outgoing people I am here for you! I am very friendly, caring and supportive and look forward to working with all of my students this year! I encourage you to try your best, never settle for less, and reach out when you need help. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from CSU Fresno and a Bachelor's in English from CU Denver. I've been teaching on the college level for nearly four years, and I also work as a tutor in the Writing Center at College of the Sequoias. Throughout 2012-2013, I led writing activities for incarcerated youth in the Fresno Juvenile Justice Center. I firmly believe that, with enough practice and hard work, every student has the potential to read and write well. I tutor multiple subjects connected to English - essay editing, grammar and mechanics, writing, and ESL. I write in my free time, so I love imparting students with an appreciation of reading and writing. I also play drums in two different metal bands, and I love to ride my fixie around town.
