I was born to be an educator. I first became enamored of the career when I read Little House on the Prairie. I wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder. I used my mother's old textbooks to create lesson plans for my dolls and stuffed animals. I gave lectures, homework and graded their assignments. I hand wrote report cards for each student. When I was in high school, my mom died and it was my speech teacher that made sure I graduated and got into a good college. I was taken off track by the promise of my ability to be a lawyer, and then I realized that wasn't what I wanted to do and I was in the wrong college. It took me 20 years to wind my way back to that original dream. Today, I honor my speech teacher and my younger self by helping students of all ages reach their academic goals and their life goals.I hold a Doctorate of Management, an International Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis on supply chain and logistics and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. I have taught students from age 4 to age 60. I have taught students from five of the seven continents and taught in Mexico and China. I am certified in English 7-12, with the English as a Second Language certification. I have been teaching since 2006 in both college and K-12. As a college professor, I taught management, logistics, international business, business, marketing, entrepreneurship, organizational design and change, English and algebra. My students have completed projects that saved over $250,000 for businesses and have started six new businesses in under three months.I am excited to spend all of my time working in the one on one environment. I love to be a coach, mentor, and teacher all at the same time. I enjoy identifying your learning style, the prior knowledge that allows you to scaffold to higher academic success. I also think that we should have fun. I enjoy talking about music, TV, movies, pets, children and grandchildren. I believe that if you are having fun, you will be more engaged with the material and will retain more of the information.I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent students and have many skills to help you succeed in your way, not pushing you to the "normal" way of doing things. In my younger years I went to college to become a physician's assistant which I loved then my husband got transfered and I never was able to finish my schooling. When we came back to the states I was able to use my creadits to get myself a seat to take the pharmacy tech exam which I passed. I went to work as a tech for close to 8 years, I loved it but gave it up to be a mom and then went back to school to get my BS in healthcare management. I have been helping people my whole life. I have worked overseas and stateside helping people with their healthcare needs, disater relief and insurance needs. I love doing things hands on, but have enjoyed being able to help more peole through online opportunities. I am currently working in the Medicare health insurance field also life insurance. I started out in the P and C field and then moved into the life health and annuity field during Covid. I started tutoring students through Varsity Tutors and out of all of the insurance students I had the pleasure of working with only one did not pass their exam which they later went onto to pass. I hope I can bring my experience, knowledge and easy tricks on remembering important information to pass your exam.

I have several years of experience working with young children and adult learners with special needs in Westchester County New York as an assistant teacher. I received a Bachelor of Arts in African Studies with a minor in history from Hofstra University. I received a Masters of Business Administration with a focus in Operations Management from Colorado Technical University. Since graduation, I have worked with the DC Teaching Fellows program as a lead teacher, supporting students with learning disabilities within the DC public school system. My approach to teaching and tutoring students is one that is done with inquiry, understanding and adaptation. Hi, I'm James. I'm a cybersecurity professional, former university instructor, and longtime competitive chess player who enjoys helping students grow in both technical and strategic thinking skills. I previously taught cybersecurity at Rice University and have mentored students and professionals in IT, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. I also bring years of experience in tournament chess, where I trained under former Women's World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk and competed in state and collegiate championships. My teaching style is patient, structured, and encouraging. Whether we are working on a computer science concept, preparing for a certification, or improving chess fundamentals, I focus on breaking complex ideas into clear steps and helping students understand the reasoning behind what they are learning. In chess lessons, that means learning how to think through positions and build good habits, not just memorizing moves. In technology subjects, it means understanding how systems work together rather than just following instructions. I work with students of different ages and experience levels, and I tailor each session to the student's goals and learning style. I am a graduate of Concordia University-Portland, and a student at Regent University. I earned a master's degree in special education in 2016 and am pursuing a PhD in Special Education currently. Since earning my degree, I have spent the last 2 years working with children with Autism on academic and life skills. I also took the opportunity to earn a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I work in a variety of subjects as a tutor but my passion is working with students with disabilities and learning challenges. I especially enjoy working on reading and grammar building blocks such as phonics and sentence construction. I am passionate about the benefits of education and making those benefits available to all students regardless of challenges and I try to make learning as engaging and entertaining as possible while still reaching goals.
