I am a graduate of Drew University, receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience. I have recently been accepted to Boston University to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy. Since graduation, I have worked extensively in the field of pharmaceutical science, conducting research and publishing studies primarily in the fields of oncology pharmacology and DNA sequencing. I graduated from Drew University in 1988 and went on to receive a master's degree at Kean College of New Jersey in Behavioral Sciences: Human Behavior and Organizational Psychology. I am a graduate of Drew University, class of 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, with a focus on creative writing and 20th Century American authors as well as a minor in Classics. In college, I worked at the Drew University Writing Center for two years tutoring undergraduate, graduate, and English Second Language (ESL) students. My senior year I was chosen to participate on the Drew University panel at the International Writing Center Association’s (IWCA) annual conference held in Orlando, Florida, where I gave a speech on the adjustments that tutors need to make when tutoring ESL students. I have also worked for the Drew University Summer College Mentor Program where I mentored four inner-city high school students one-on-one and accompanied them as they experienced what college was like for one week. Through my work at the Writing Center, I have experience helping with papers on a wide variety of subjects and have tutored anything from graduate theses papers to introductory level essays. My passion for creative writing drives my tutoring philosophy and with any paper I believe it is paramount that a writer start with the fundamentals. Once a writer knows the foundations of a good paper, then he or she can start to play with the rules and flow of the paper to make the it his or her own. It is critically important to me that the tutee feels, whatever the subject is, the paper is written in their voice. One strategy I use with every tutee is to have them read the paper aloud. This not only helps with sentence structure and syntax but also gives the tutee a chance to hear how their paper sounds. I've found that by doing this over several sessions and different papers, the tutee notices patterns in their own writing that they can choose to keep or adjust and allows them to identify with something in every paper they write, even if it’s something that may not be a creative writing assignment.

I am currently a senior Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major at Drew University. As a premed student, I have extensive experience learning about courses in many disciplines, such as Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Math to name a few. Devoting my entire undergraduate career to these fields has allowed me to gain a deep and thorough understanding of those topics and enables me to teach these subjects to students effectively and competently. My passion for education has stemmed from my commitment to being a lifelong student! I graduated from Drew University with my Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. After college I accepted a position at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine where I am a current fourth year medical student. As a proud lifelong learner, I know what it feels like to struggle through difficult content. Asking for help is a good thing, and the best tutors often have had tutors themselves! I have 10 years of teaching experience including subject tutoring at various academic centers, holding teaching positions for several college courses, and test preparation for standardized examinations. My students have ranged from pre-k to professional schooling (medical school, PA school, law school, etc.). The intricacies of the human body never cease to amaze me. For that reason my favorite subject to tutor is anatomy and physiology in hopes to share that passion with my students! With that being said, my teaching experience extends far beyond the sciences alone. I also have experience with standardized test preparation and love teaching people how to study effectively. Being a lifelong student myself, I understand that everyone learns differently. I work with each student to incorporate the methods that will help them achieve their goals. During the first session I take a few minutes to gather an understanding of what type of learner the student is (visual, auditory, tactile, etc.) before jumping right into the desired subject. Afterwards, a typical session with me includes content knowledge followed by some active learning. Research shows that passive techniques (reading, re-writing notes) are not as successful in building a long-term knowledge base. For this reason, I end each session with questions related to what we have covered so that the student can have the opportunity to both actively use the material and simulate a testing environment. Lastly, we end with reviewing the questions and summarizing what we have covered. If students are interested, we can also take the time to come up with a realistic study schedule and goals to attack before the following session. I was homeschooled for the first seventeen years of my life by my mother, a certified teacher, in the Seton curriculum. Summer vacations consisted of camping trips to sites such as Gettysburg and Colonial Williamsburg, which contributed to my lifelong appreciation of history. This education was supplemented by courses at Gloucester County College, from which I graduated with an Associates Degree (A.A) in Arts and Sciences. I then transferred to St. Bonaventure University, graduating magna cum laude in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in general History. My introductory experience to the Spanish language was a semester abroad in Sevilla. My interests remain broad and unsated to this day, including history, literature, myth and an occasionally problematic fascination with fantasy literature. I have since channeled these into pursuit of a Master's Degree in American History and Culture. The next step will be a certification in ESL education.I find a balance of vigorous exercise and leisure time essential to a focused mind. While I no longer play baseball or (roller) hockey, I run and ride my ten-speed often and watch an odd game when I can. Concerning leisure, I've been learning to play the guitar since I was fourteen and enjoy music ranging from classical to rock and hip hop.

I am a recent graduate with masters degree in chemical and biochemical engineering from Rutgers University. After graduation, I have been working as a process engineer in the pharmaceutical industry. I also earned the Competent Communicator designation from Toastmasters International - an organization that helps people improve their speaking and leadership skills.I have been teaching students in a variety of settings since 2001. Currently, I am the Associate Dean of General studies at a local college. However, I discovered my love of teaching while I was an adjunct teacher at Quincy College. While there, I taught Economics and Finance. I've also had the pleasure substitute teaching in both the Braintree and Quincy public school systems.As you may be able to tell, I love teaching Economics! It's a subject that is always in the news and I love teaching the theory and relating it to the real world. Economics is tied closely with government - another subject that I like to discuss especially now given the Presidential election next year. I also enjoy finance as most of my career has been involved with finance and investments - especially retirement planning - a topic many people do not want to think about but is quite important in the long run!While not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and cheering on the Boston sport teams. In the past I ran cross country in college and was captain of the team. I was also fortunate to complete the Boston Marathon - where I ran half of it (the other half I walked)!Given the differing age groups that I have taught, I feel comfortable teaching anyone. I am very patient with students and take the time so that students understand the subject matter. To me, students come first and I will do whatever I can to help the student learn the material! I typically end a class with a joke - while I cannot promise that the jokes are good, I do hope to put a smile on people's faces!

I am a recent college graduate from Drew University. I received my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Spanish and a double minor in Italian and Linguistics with a focus on Neuroscience. I am excited to experience the world. I am a hard worker and I set multiple goals for myself to accomplish daily; both short term and long term. Languages and the human brain are my passions. I love studying and learning new languages; I speak Italian and Spanish, some Portuguese and some Korean. A goal of mine is to learn French, and to continue to study Portuguese and Korean so that I become fluent. I am very interested in neuroscience and how the body functions. These two passions of mine sparked my interest to question how languages work in the brain. I also have found that I enjoy teaching languages; especially English as a second language (ESL). When I teach I always think about ways to code switch and how my interlocutor may be thinking about the English language based on their first language. One way I teach to students is is by understanding their first language and their process of thinking. I truly enjoy teaching and mentoring to others.Besides tutoring ESL, I tutor Spanish and Italian. I also tutor in any neuroscience topic. I have taught ESL in a non-profit organization; I am a very active teacher and I enjoy helping my students learn. I have also taught during the summer at students' houses when we couldn't use a classroom at the organization. Besides giving them this advice I teach them certain phrases they can say if they are ever in a complicated situation where they can't be understood; these phrases give them comfort and the confidence to use the language they are learning quickly.Besides teaching languages I also am very proactive about teaching others how the human body works and why we should be eating organic, non-GMO foods, and taking nutrients, etc. Understanding the science and functioning of the human body and brain allows me to teach others why a healthy lifestyle is crucial for optimal health.If i am not reading and researching a topic; I am doing yoga or exercising. I am passionate about being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. I also enjoy latin dancing, ballroom dancing, and belly dancing; I think that being creative is very important and dance is a great way to express yourself.

I fell in love with the French language in high school after finding my favorite singer, Keen'V. I began teaching myself French at home and was fluent by the time I graduated. I then went to college and had the opportunity to study abroad in Nantes, France as part of an immersive program. I plan to return to France to live there permanently. Language changed my life and opened so many doors for me. I want to be able to help students find their own love for language and have fun with a subject that is often very difficult to understand. I received degrees in Political Science and Economics at Drew University and studied Education at Eastern University. In 2006, I began my teaching career in Philadelphia Public High Schools. I have developed my teaching methods and style through eight years of experience as a classroom teacher. I have experience teaching American History, African American History, World History, Social Science, Economics, Political Science and AP American Government & Politics. For the past three years, I have taught AP American Government & Politics at one of Philadelphia's highest performing public high schools. I completed my undergraduate degree in Colorado and my Graduate work was done in New Jersey. I come from a family of seven kids, surrounded by other families who had anywhere from seven to twelve kids! Born to be a babysitter, I often helped most of the kids through homework problems, teaching little ones how to read and proof-reading the papers for the older ones. This early start at what I soon realized was tutoring/teaching led me to attend graduate school at Drew University where I am earning my Masters in Teaching degree with certifications in English and theatre. Before enrolling in the Masters program, I graduated from Drew with a Theatre major, plus two minors in music and arts administration. I enjoy tutoring any subject; I am the type of person that gets happy about little things and as long as I can help a student understand something, I am enjoying the process.
