I have completed an undergraduate degree in premed biology and am currently an osteopathic medical student. I have been working as a teaching assistant for the past three years, and tutor for general chemistry (my favorite!), general biology, and anatomy and physiology. I do my best to help each student move past whatever they may be struggling with, whether it is subject content or study skills.Everything is hard before you understand it, but easy after you understand it. My motto in my tutoring sessions is, "Where hard becomes easy!"

I have been a teacher for three years. I have taught third and second grade and plan to "loop" up with my third graders and teach fourth grade. I have been tutoring one on one with students for three years as well. I have experience tutoring students of all ages in all subject areas as well. Sometimes the student just needs additional help in fluency while others need help understanding abstract concepts and working on critical thinking and problem solving. In addition I tutor STEM, Math, and Reading for third grade through sixth grade before school at my current elementary school.
I am a recently retired Secondary Math teacher. I taught at the high school level for 40 years. During that time I also tutored students after school. I have taught/tutored all classes from Algebra I to Pre-Calc, and I enjoy teaching and tutoring all Math subject areas. My last 15 years I primarily taught AP Statistics, Algebra II, Pre-Calc, and Trigonometry.I received my BS degree from Ferris State University and achieved a Masters Equivalent from Eastern Michigan University. As education has changed, so has my teaching philosophy. I view myself as a source, as opposed to the source of information. I try to get my students to not only know how to solve a problem but to understand why those steps have to be taken. I also encourage them to look for alternative ways to approach a situation. I believe these techniques help the students to develop a stronger understanding of Mathematics. In addition to teaching for 40 years, I also coached basketball and golf at the high school level, and I was a head varsity coach for both sports for over 25 years. At home I enjoy playing golf, working on my lawn and garden, bird watching, and working out.
I was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, moved to Michigan to go to college, and am now back in my beloved city. I am married with two dogs, and have a 5-month old son! I used to work in sports and entertainment but decided not to go back to work full-time so I could raise my son. I'm usually a busy body and love to play and watch tennis. I also love to read, mostly non-fiction, and if I could have lunch with someone from the past, it would be a hard choice between Marie Antoinette and JFK. Maybe Frank Sinatra...speaking of that, I am from a large Italian family that doesn't know how to use inside voices. I hold very true to the customs that my grandparents brought over from the mother country and try to have Sunday dinners each week. My husband and I have a passion for traveling and have visited a handful of European countries. On my lazy days, you can find me binge-watching a tv show that has been done and over with for years!
I am a graduate of Ferris State University with a Bachelor's of Science-Nursing. I began my nursing career as a graduate of an Associate's Degree program at my community college. Not only has nursing been a passion for me but education has as well. Early on in my nursing career I fell in love with teaching others. I loved the empowerment students began to feel when they were able to understand difficult concepts. I returned to work as an instructor at the same college I obtained my first degree.I tutor and instruct students on a variety of subjects related to the nursing field. Concepts such as fundamentals of Biology to complex disease process and how it relates to the body as well as Physical assessments.I personally feel that we are always students in a constant state of learning. As a nursing instructor, I have learned from my students as much as they have learned from me. I love the mutual relationship built between the instructor and students.
At the age of seven I began my first session with a tutor and realized the importance of having a guide when a subject is a struggle. It was that experience that lead me to tutor and eventually to teach. I began tutoring Math in high school and continued on through college at which time I also began to tutor in various Science course. It was that passion and enthusiasm for helping others that lead me to education. Not only do I have a Bachelor in Science, I went on to be a certified Science teacher. Eventually, I obtained a Master's degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction.Teaching was an amazing experience and one where I was able to take the lessons and transform them into meaningful, project-based real-life scenarios. It is my goal to provide you with the assistance you need for your goals. Our sessions will be relevant and based on what you need and want and done in a manner consistent with you learning style/s and strengths. We will use these to make improvements in areas that are a concern.Besides educating and helping others, I enjoy life to the fullest. Music and traveling are two of my greatest joys. The outdoors is constantly calling my name and I enjoy that by hiking, kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, and skiing. I also enjoy reading just about anything and like peaceful strolls at night.I look forward to meeting you.
