My passion in life is world travel. Languages are my gift. I speak three so far. As a biology major, I enjoy teaching science and math. As a substitute teacher I have a wealth of experience teaching various subjects to a large variety of students. I pride myself on being able to pick up on individual challenges and adjust accordingly. Everybody learns in a different way, and I am very sensitive to those differences. I am all about positive reinforcement and creativity. I find that they work the best in most situations.

I have been a professional tutor since January 2016, but I was always the one asked to lead study groups. Since Elementary school I've been known as the person in class to clarify concepts that were unclear during the lecture. I work well with all age groups, and have found that individual, personalized approaches work best for each student. I love to learn and I am excited to help others find their love for education as well.

While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English literature, writing and composition, psychology, and conversational Spanish. I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, FL. There, I received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on English literature and a Master of Arts in English with a focus on writing, rhetoric, and composition. While at FAU, I worked at the writing center, helping students, faculty, alumni, and visiting scholars improve their writing and language skills. Simultaneously, I taught college writing courses for FAU's College of Arts and Letter's Department of English while completing several writing internships, attending national conferences, and taking advantage of study abroad opportunities. I had the opportunity to work extensively with ESL students. Given that FAU is one of the most diverse institutions in the nation and that I am a native Spanish speaker who immigrated to the United States as a young child, these experiences helped me feel even more connected to my language and culture. I've always believed that theory and practice are equally vital to a strong intellectual foundation. So, while I worked toward earning both degrees, I coupled my practical teaching and tutoring experience with additional courses from the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature. I've worked with many students struggling with standardized tests, academic essays, graduate school applications, and learning either English or Spanish as a second language. We always seem to have the most fun (and make the most progress) when we focus on the writing and critical reading portions of the exams or assignments, employing real-life scenarios in the process.

I think it is important to know that students tutored by me not only receive help understanding key concepts in their courses but improved studying habits that will assist them in their future academic endeavors. I have been an advocate for the advancement and growth STEM education since my freshman year of undergrad. I've found one of the best ways to enhance STEM education is to make sure students understand key concepts and receive quality assistance outside the classroom in the form of tutoring. I am a graduate student that was recently accepted to Thomas Jefferson University's doctorate program in "Genetics, Genomics and Cancer Biology" after completing my Bachelors of Science in "Molecular and Cell Biology" at Florida Atlantic University. I have won numerous awards for academic excellence and scientific research as an undergraduate student, which can be seen in detail on my Curriculum Vitae upon request. I have tutored biomedical sciences coursework ranging from general biology to Cancer biology, and privately tutored high school students over the years in biology courses. As a tutor I am focused on maximizing a student's strengths, while directly targeting weaknesses in subject material and studying habits during our time together.

I am currently working towards writing children's books, relishing every moment of my journey, and planting a little organic garden.Tutoring is something I enjoy wholeheartedly. It gives me an opportunity to bridge learning gaps that often occur in the classroom or extend learning outside the textbooks. Much of my teaching and tutoring experience involves students from grades K-6 in the areas of: test taking CCGPS(Common Core Georgia Performance Standards), math, reading/comprehension, phonics, grammar/language arts, and science. My goal as a tutor is to create relevant problem solving opportunities that both teacher and student solve and create. In short, I'm enthusiastic about making learning experiences practical and easy to understand.Tutoring sessions will be catered to fit the individual needs of the student. Each student needs a learning experience with a slightly different recipe for achievement. My aim is to incorporate the strengths and interests of each student to create a platform for highly engaging opportunities for practice. With that said, gear up for an incredible journey and let's explore countless ways you can learn and be successful!

I am a life long learner. I love to learn, and I love to share what I learn with others. I have three baccalaureate degrees in English, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Education can be very exciting, and it doesn't have to end in the classroom, however: I also studied animal behavior while in Washington, where I worked with chimpanzees who spoke sign language, and I assisted with research on dolphins while in Turkey.I love animals, as evidenced by the above experience. Otters are my favorite animals, because they make hard work look fun. They need to groom and hunt constantly, but they swim around as though they are always having the best time in the world. I try to apply this otter-esque attitude to everything I do. You never know what you can build out of your interests, or where those interests can take you. Hard work isn't always fun, but if we stay focused and smile along the way, we can do anything!

I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University (FAU). I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a focus on writing and education. As an undergraduate, I took advanced graduate courses, looking to expand and to deepen my knowledge and skills in writing and pedagogy. When the French avionics company I worked for for about 10 years closed their Miami facility, in 2001, I decided to go back to school, and finish my degree. I was in my English class (Honors Short Story) on September 11, waiting for the class to start, when the television came on to news reports of an attack and we watched in horror coverage of the first tower engulfed in flames, and the second tower collapse.I remember being anxious about writing my first college essay in some ten years. It was a paper on Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher." Our instructions were to write a five-paragraph essay, with a minimum 10-sentence paragraphs. I was confused by this instruction, because we didn't learn the 5-paragraph essay in Montreal. I considered submitting a writing sample to see if I was up to the task. Eventually, I decided to take my chances and write the essay the best way I knew how.I could hardly breathe waiting for the professor to grade and return our papers. Finally, she called us one by one up to her desk, and she handed us our papers. I do not know what she said to the other students, but as she held out my paper, she motion to the desk and said, "You should be on this side of the desk," meaning the teacher side. That's all I needed to hear. I made sure to take every course that would make me the best teacher I could be.I studied year-round, and in December 2003, I graduated summa cum laude. I went on to take graduate courses in teaching reading, language arts, young adult fiction, pedagogy, and writing. I started teaching high school Language Arts and Reading in 2004-2005.While I tutor a range of subjects, I love writing. I have had an essay and a memoir published. I am compiling essays for a book series and I post short reflections on my website. I enjoy watching crime/police dramas, mysteries/detective shows, and the occasional vampire series. I also like photography, sewing, and quilting.Because I was not born in the United States, I missed out on the treasure trove of American children's books, and so I took every opportunity to read them as a student and as a teacher. I relish reading children's books and young adult fiction because I feel they help me to connect to high school students. I use children's books to teach complex topics, because the readability level does not get in the way of seeing the pattern of writing and the stylistic, organizational tropes the author uses.I believe in meeting people where they are. I use my own experience and self-reflection to better understand the needs of my students; to adapt to their learning style and preferences; to have empathy for their cultural perspective; to appreciate the full range of their personal experience. I look forward to working with you on achieving the goals and aspirations you have for yourself. So, how may I help you?

"Knowledge is power"Science is my passion, when students draw connections between content and career applications, their learning is so much more impactful. My interest was piqued in a first grade science course. It was the only subject where asking questions was encouraged, and not challenged. In high school my curiosity deepened and led me to pursue a degree in Biology education. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University with my Bachelor of Science in Biology education, I became a middle school science teacher. Instead of teaching towards the State exam, I focused on teaching towards the standards. This enabled my students to see the relevance in their learning, through collaboration, creation and problem based learning with solar cars/solar ovens. Curiosity and the intrigue of learning prompted me to go down the "rabbit-hole" of STEM at the end of the tunnel, Robotics and a CS certification.
