After 32 years of teaching reading and writing in elementary school, I believe my knowledge, expertise and personality enable me to make learning interesting. Today's technology provides me with greater options and techniques to make individual learning interesting with real connections in a more engaging and fun way. I spent 12 years working as a reading and writing coach mentoring my colleagues by providing best practices in education. I am a graduate of Liberty University, where I received a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Biology. While there, I also obtained a Virginia teaching license in General Biology for grades 6-12. After graduating and getting married, I moved to South Florida, where I now attend Florida Atlantic University in pursuit of a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science. I have been tutoring various subjects since high school, but find Math and Science to be my strongest areas. While at Liberty University, I worked as a Biology tutor both for the Bruckner Learning Center and for the Biology Department itself. For my education certification, I completed several Biology practicums including a semester of student teaching 6th grade life science at Linkehorne Middle School. Now as a graduate student, I work as a Teaching Assistant by teaching Comparative Vertebrate Morphogenesis, Human Morphology, and Anatomy and Physiology labs at the FAU Davie campus. I am very passionate about all things Science and Biology remains my favorite subject to tutor. While tutoring, I bring my extensive content knowledge, patience, and creativity for developing personalized tutoring and studying techniques. When I am not in class or tutoring, I enjoy tennis, biking, reading and being an officer for South Florida’s Herpetology Society (a society for amphibian and reptile lovers).

As a certified teacher with a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's in Special Education, I bring both subject expertise and specialized training to my work with students. For over three years on the Varsity Tutors platform, I've helped children build confidence and make meaningful progress, especially those who struggle with reading disorders like dyslexia. I've developed a customized curriculum to support these learners and have seen strong, lasting results. In addition to reading and writing, I tutor math through grade 6 and have extensive experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, Down syndrome, and other learning differences. I'm known for my patient, supportive teaching style, but I also hold high expectations and believe that with the right tools and encouragement, every child can succeed.

There are numerous mnemonics and strategies that I have learned along the way that will help tremendously. Growing up in Miami, Florida it was hard to find someone to help me with school, as many people that live there are non-native English speakers. I saw this gap in education in many first-generation American students like myself. Therefore, I took it upon myself to create a mentoring program where I had my first tutoring experience. I had students from elementary to high school and was able to tutor them on various topics, especially science, which is my passion! I was able to discover my own learning style and it allowed me to thrive in medical school. My goal is to help my students learn their own learning style and become independent learners. As a new doctor, teaching is fundamental in our growth as practitioners, as we are always teaching patients about their diseases and management.I am passionate about helping students because I know how it feels when someone tries to teach me something but doesn't take the time to explain it. Memorizing things is easy, however, once you truly understand something, you know it forever.I took this passion with me all the way to medical school and was hand selected by the pathology professor to become the teaching assistant at my medical school. As a teaching assistant, I was able to hold both full-class and one-on-one tutoring sessions. Pathology is notoriously the most difficult class in medical school, so I was honored to be selected as the tutor as the professor selects the two highest performing students in her class. I am looking forward to starting medical residency next year, because as a physician, I will always be a lifelong learner and teacher.Science is my favorite subject to learn and tutor because there is a lot of reasoning involved. People often think that science is solely memorization however this is a misconception. Science is highly organized, and works in systems. Once one understands a specific system or concept that is being studied, it makes the rest of the work so much more fun.Outside of medical school, I love to cook, go for a long bike ride, head to the beach or catch the latest musical (pre-covid of course). I work hard in my studies but always make some time for friends, family and myself. I'm looking forward to getting to know you as a student and your learning style to meet your academic goals!

I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in grades K-6th. With this I am also ESOL endorsed. I taught grades 1-3 and 6th grade as a Reading Intensive Teacher. After nine wonderful years of teaching, I decided to leave the classroom to educate my own children at home. During my teaching journey, I've learned that all students are unique in their own learning styles. This was difficult to tackle in a classroom setting of 30 students. This is what drove me to home educate and begin my online tutoring journey. I began by teaching students from mainland China the English language. While I love teaching all subjects, including math, I am very passionate about teaching Reading and Language Arts. In my experience, this content area is one that many of my students struggled with. I have many years of experience with prepping students for state testing and what those entail. However, my focus is to help current students find the joy in reading again. I am a firm believer in that reading should be a daily practice and one that should be enjoyed.

I am a licensed high school math teacher with three years of teaching experience. Since I was in high school, I have been helping students perform to their fullest potential. In high school, I would help students after school with geometry and algebra and it changed my life for the better. Not only did I feel joy from helping encouraging and motivating others, but I also became a more knowledgeable student. It is one thing to master a concept, it is another task entirely to transfer that knowledge to someone else. As a former student of tutoring, I understand the impact a strong tutor can have on a child's education. While earning my degree at Indian River State College, I was often recognized in my math courses for my ability to grasp and master concepts each week. Word spread quickly amongst the math professors that I could be a valuable asset to their department. They noticed that I offered assistance to my classmates whenever I saw they were struggling with material that I had a strong understanding of. I took pride in this role as I had always dreamed of being an educator. I was happy to tutor as it gave me the chance to practice what I would be doing after graduating. At that time I was earning my associates in Education. After taking a break from formal education to travel and learn from experiences and places and people, I decided to apply to Florida Atlantic University where I am, slowly but surely, earning my B.S in elementary Education. In 2015 I started my instructor journey as a daily substitute teacher. After connecting well with students during my time in this role, particularly getting them excited about learning and practicing math, I was offered a permanent substitute position teaching 5th grade math and science. Unfortunately, I had to step away from this after some time. Later I found myself nannying and teaching much younger "students". I enjoyed my time having an impact on the development of these young minds. Early childhood development is the foundation for the rest of their educational career and it was not a task I took lightly. Though, the kids grew up and it was time to move on once more. This is when I started my career as a flight attendant. I also had the opportunity to work a special assignment and spend a year at our training facility instructing new hires through the 5 week initial training program. Throughout my various educational roles, I have found immense joy in teaching all subjects, but math holds a special place in my heart. My deep passion for education enables me to inspire a similar enthusiasm in my students, empowering them to actively engage in their learning journey and take ownership of their education.

I think it is important to know that students tutored by me not only receive help understanding key concepts in their courses but improved studying habits that will assist them in their future academic endeavors. I have been an advocate for the advancement and growth STEM education since my freshman year of undergrad. I've found one of the best ways to enhance STEM education is to make sure students understand key concepts and receive quality assistance outside the classroom in the form of tutoring. I am a graduate student that was recently accepted to Thomas Jefferson University's doctorate program in "Genetics, Genomics and Cancer Biology" after completing my Bachelors of Science in "Molecular and Cell Biology" at Florida Atlantic University. I have won numerous awards for academic excellence and scientific research as an undergraduate student, which can be seen in detail on my Curriculum Vitae upon request. I have tutored biomedical sciences coursework ranging from general biology to Cancer biology, and privately tutored high school students over the years in biology courses.
