I am a current graduate student at The Citadel, and I am a graduate of Georgia Southern University. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in International Studies. I come from a family of teachers. My mom taught middle school English and grammar, and two of my aunts and my grandmother are/ were teachers. When I was in elementary school, I was diagnosed with ADHD, so at times, I struggled to learn new concepts or material. My family's passion for education and my own struggles inspired me to try and help others learn. Most of my professional experience has been in finance and politics, but in the fall of 2021, I began tutoring a high school senior in writing. I knew I wanted to continue working with students, so I looked into what options might be available. I found the Varsity Tutors platform, and it allows me to work with students, while still pursuing my other professional interests. I am available for tutoring in high school and college level English, writing, history, and politics/ government.

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and a Master's of Science in Leadership. My academic background and my innate desire to help others are two of many reasons why I love tutoring.Helping others and employing a Servant Leadership style is an innate trait of mine. I enjoy helping others in all aspects of life. Simply witnessing a student experience an 'aha' moment, or the mere excitement they experience when their grade improves or they pass a major exam simply brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart.Over the last decade I have been working in the Earth Science field as a Meteorologist/Oceanographer. I absolutely love math and science.I really take pride in helping others achieve academic success and I have a unique way of truly helping others understand the material. Helping others in any aspect of life has always been a true passion of mine.Being able to live out my life's purpose of helping others achieve success is awesome and I simply enjoy it.Tutors have a very unique role that is rather different from that of a parent or teacher. Tutors have to reach deep into the student's mind and gain a deeper understanding of how the student thinks, interprets, and analyzes information. This is a prerequisite in addition to have the ability to present the material in an easy to understand format.I am excited to play a role in this process in which in the end everyone's a winner!

My ultimate goal is to ensure that any and every student who works with me achieves the tools and skills necessary to succeed.Whether it's in the classroom or beyond everyone deserves to feel confident about their ability to learn and grow and as a tutor my aim is to make it possible to do both of those things with my help and without it.Having graduated Georgia Southern University with a BA in Writing and Linguistics I'm more than qualified to assist in the understanding of English skills both verbally and on the page.At 22 I'm old enough to impart some of my experiential knowledge on students without overwhelming them with a sense of mastery or perfection. I'm a former teacher but I'm very easy going. I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Masters in Computational Sciences. While there, I gained a lot of tutoring experience through my assistantship with them. I can cover a wide range of Math topics from Algebra, Pre-Cal, Calculus, Trig, Geometry, and Statistics. If you're stuck on a concept, I'll do my best to figure out where you're stuck and try to fill in the gaps of your foundation so you can be better prepared for later material.Outside of academics, I'm a bit of a nerd, choosing video games and anime to spend my spare time. I've also recently taken up archery and programming.

I believe everyone has the ability to learn if provided with the necessary tools and given the opportunity. It is all about building a solid foundation. It is the job of the teacher to foster all learning abilities and provide students with the extra guidance and assurance that learning can take place if put your mind to it. During my free time, I enjoy reading all types of books from different genres, spending time with family and friends, exercising, and shopping.

Despite earning an accounting degree, I also hold tutoring expertise in mathematics. I have tutored children ranging from elementary through college in math.My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics because I love numbers and I love to help students understand the concepts of how these numbers cooperate with other aspects of math such as graphs and variables.I have a personal tutoring philosophy that helps the students out: "The sooner you begin, the sooner you finish", simply meaning that the sooner the student is motivated to work, the sooner the student can finish his work and have more time for themselves.Outside of tutoring, I love to spend time with my family and I love to enjoy my spare time outside. I love to walk and walk five miles every day.Math is my life and I love helping students, so I would do my very best to help students that are struggling with math succeed; to make the connection between math and students become clearer.
Make the most out of life.

I have been teaching elementary-age children for the past 22 years. During that time, I have taught students from kindergarten through 5th grade. I began my love for working with children when I started babysitting as a teenager. As I continued my educational career at Georgia Southern University, I received a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with a Minor in Music. As a child, I always had a love for music. I sang in the church choir as well as played handbells. Starting in 4th grade, I started playing the flute and continued participating in band throughout high school and college. During the summers, I was a camp counselor in an overnight summer camp located in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. I loved it! I got a chance to work with children and enjoy nature at the same time. Double whammy! I love spending time outdoors walking around my neighborhood, going on hiking trails, going camping with my family, and swimming. I also enjoy making all kinds of arts and crafts and playing board games. After graduating college, I married the love of my life and we have 3 boys ages 19, 17, and 13. During that time, I worked in Title 1 Schools that had a lot of ESOL students. I enjoyed working with this population of students, so I got my ESOL Endorsement. Shortly after that, an ESOL teacher retired at my school, so I moved into her position and have been in that position for the past 5 years. After my first year, I wanted to learn more about language learners, so I went back to school and got my master's degree at Georgia State University in Elementary Education with a concentration in Dual Immersion.I am a lifelong learner. Even today, after working all day at school, I come home and watch webinars, take extra classes, and read books to enrich my craft. I strive to find the most engaging, meaningful, and effective activities to help my students learn. Some of the trainings I have participated in are Orton Gillingham, LETRS (Science of Reading), and Kapan (Cooperative Learning).I love to teach all content areas, but what I have found over the years is that using science helps engage students to get them excited about learning. Most children love science experiments and learning about the world around them. Making learning meaningful is important. If students are invested in their learning, they are more motivated and excited about learning. Once you plant that seed, students will run with it and be lifelong learners, problem solvers, and contributing members of society. It is more than just learning the standards; it's giving students the tools they need to be successful. Once they have confidence in themselves, there is no stopping them.

I have a passion for helping students succeed in life. This passion led to me volunteering my time as a tutor during my undergraduate studies. I helped local high school students prepare for the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) by providing them with study methods and offering assistance in math, science, and language arts. My students had a 100% pass rate for the GHSGT and were able to graduate from high school. I also helped students prepare for the ACT and SAT.My assistance is not limited to upper level students. I participated in a program called project FOCUS (Fostering Our Children's Understanding in Science); through this program I taught students in grades K-5 science. I developed lesson plans and projects that helped the students gain interest in science, as well as learn and understand science. I have also tutored students in math, reading, and language arts. When tutoring students, my goal is to understand the level the students are currently at, and how best to help them advance to higher levels. My lesson plans usually consist of worksheets and projects that focus on the area that is challenging for the students. I also sometimes allow the students to work independently in order to gauge their progress. I feel that this method provides confidence in their ability to complete the assignment.I will be as flexible as possible. I also welcome feedback and constructive criticism as I am always willing to improve my skills. I look forward to hearing from you and helping with your studies.

I have a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Georgia Southern University. I have always had a passion for tutoring and I even held a tutoring job during my undergraduate years - and it was one that I loved. My philosophy while tutoring or teaching is that each individual is different not only in the way they learn information but in the way the information needs to be presented to them. That's why while tutoring, I will take the time to get to know each student's style of learning even while I'm helping them on their journey to absorb the information.
Over the past 6 years of teaching high school math, I have learned many ways to present a variety of information. I have tutored one-on-one for 3 of those 6 years, and enjoy the experience of working individually with students and seeing their progress in the classroom.
