I am a dedicated tutor with a deep passion for guiding students towards academic success in math and science. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students, each with unique learning styles and backgrounds. From volunteering in after-school programs to leading group study sessions in various settings, I have honed my ability to adapt my teaching approach to meet the individual needs of each student. My tutoring experience spans various subjects, including algebra, geometry, elementary physics, and chemistry. However, I am particularly passionate about tutoring geometry and chemistry. These subjects not only challenge students but also empower them to think critically and problem-solve effectively, skills that are invaluable in both academic and real-world contexts. In my teaching philosophy, I believe in fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, explore concepts, and make mistakes. I strive to instill in my students a love for learning and a growth mindset that empowers them to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. I am committed to helping students succeed not only academically but also personally, guiding them on their journey to becoming confident, independent learners. As a tutor, I am dedicated to providing the support and guidance needed for students to excel in their studies and beyond.

My earliest childhood memory is in a classroom in Germany. I started school overseas on an Army base and I remember feeling fascinated with my surroundings. New books, new people, toys, paper and crayons were all within my grasp and sweet faced old woman was standing in front of the room excited to equip me with the knowledge of how to proceed. I loved school and academia since then and gravitated towards the sciences around middle school. I knew from early on that I wanted to become a physician but I also knew that I additionally wanted to continue to pass the information that I learned on. See one, do one, teach one has become of my favorite mantras. In teaching students I believe in using real world applications to excite the audience about the material they are getting ready to learn. I believe the first 10 minutes of every lecture is the most crucial and typically start off with a problem/quiz that will relate to the information of the day to captivate the classroom. Interaction is a key to learning. I attempt to personalize it at every opportunity hoping that students realize that sitting back and passively absorbing knowledge is not an option or a key ingredient in the recipe for success.Another important aspect to teaching is incorporating methods that apply to all different learning styles. Realizing that students are diverse and you are constantly speaking to a mix of auditory, visual or tactile learners is important and should be noted with every lesson plan. The beauty of science is that the topic can be manipulated to accommodate all styles and promote knowledge.Ultimately, my goal is to give someone the same sense of wonder that so many excellent professors have done for me over the years. To quote Socrates "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think" and hopefully as an adjunct professor that is exactly what I will do.

I am a graduate of Georgia State University where I received my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. Shortly thereafter, I received my Education Specialist Degree in Early Childhood from Walden University. I have been an elementary teacher for 17 years and I enjoy working with students to achieve academic goals while making learning fun. I believe that all students are capable of learning and should be afforded the opportunity to do so in their unique learning style and at their own pace. With positive support and guidance, every child can meet expectations and achieve. I am passionate about educating students and helping them to realize their potential. I have spent most of my teaching years working with students who require additional support in reading and math while successfully helping them to close the gap and perform at or above grade level expectations. I also have strengths with beginning readers ensuring that they have a strong phonetic background to facilitate reading. I am very driven, results oriented and would enjoy working with your child.

I hold a BA from Howard University, an MFA and M.Ed from Regent University and am currently finishing my PhD at Georgia State University. I enjoy assisting students with various writing projects, including personal statements, essays, research papers, resumes, and creative or dramatic writing. With a background in English and Theatre, particularly in literature, creative and dramatic writing, I am passionate about helping students express their unique voice in their projects. My tutoring philosophy starts with open communication. Tutees should feel comfortable in our sessions but also empowered to create their own visions with any assistance I can provide them. In addition, I want our sessions to be safe spaces where they can brainstorm, ask any question regarding the writing process and express their genuine feelings about their own writing. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I love spending time with my family, as well as reading, writing and attending plays.
