I am a recent graduate of Hampshire College, where I received my bachelors of Fine Arts, with a focus on Japanese, sociology, ethnomusicology and theater. I was a camp counselor at Concordia College's Immersion Language Village's Japanese camp called Mori no Ike for two years. While there I taught students ages 8 to 18. Each student had varying Japanese knowledge and I was able to teach every one of them while speaking only in Japanese. So I am very comfortable with teaching Japanese in an immersion setting. My passion for Japanese is in speaking and listening and immersion teaching lends itself well to learning these skills. In my spare time I like to play video games like the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon. I also read manga, watch anime and roller blade.

My tutoring strategies are tailored to what works best for you; I believe learning is collaborative. My education has been broad and I consider myself a lifelong learner. Intrinsic motivation is critical to learning; I help my students get excited about developing mastery over key concepts that will help them be successful in a variety of contexts.Formal Education and Training:I have a PhD in neuroscience from Vanderbilt University. I was trained and educated at the Yale School of Medicine, Vanderbilt University, Case Western Reserve University, and Hampshire College. My bachelor's degree is in liberal arts, specifically, Spanish language and literature and cognitive science. I also earned a graduate certificate in undergraduate education, which allowed me to get hands on practice and critiques of my teaching, as well as background in educational theory and the developmental psychology of learning. Finally, I have a background in adolescent development, and have worked with children and adolescents with autism; I am happy to accommodate and work with learners on the spectrum.Tutoring Experience:In the past, I have tutored adult English Language Learners in conversational English, as well as school-aged children in math and reading. I have taught undergraduate psychology and neuroscience, as well as scientific writing for English Language Learners at a local medical school. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing, psychology, and biology.Tutoring Services:I am comfortable teaching at the K-12 level in a wide array of topics, and can also provide tutoring for undergraduate and graduate level science courses, writing skill building, and psychology. I am conversational in Spanish and would enjoy teaching early to intermediate Spanish learners. If you are in need of test prep, I can provide tutoring for many standardized tests as well, with an emphasis on specific test-taking strategies to help you reach your score goals. I have extensive experience in expository writing, including technical scientific writing, and am happy to tutor anyone who could need some additional help writing at the high school, undergraduate, or graduate level.
I am a Hampshire College graduate who specializes in tutoring French, English, and writing. I have tutored both privately and with a center, helping students with general academics and test prep. Language skills of all kinds help us become more confident expressing ourselves, and I am proud to support students in developing those skills so they can communicate effectively. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy writing songs, going to the movies, and reading historical nonfiction and comic books.
I love to learn! My own enthusiasm and curiosity are some of my greatest teaching assets as I've found the feelings are contagious within my students. My experience working with diverse groups of students and learners, including special education students, makes me uniquely attuned to each students individual needs. I also believe that learning at its core is a fun and exciting process. I would love to bring all of my skills to you or your family!

Education:Hampshire College (Bachelors of Arts)Relay Graduate School of Education (Masters of Teaching Elementary & Exceptional Learners)Harvard Graduate School of Education (Masters of Education Education Leadership & Wellness)I began my career in education after I was accepted into Teach for America (a highly-selective education government program that recruits and trains graduates from elite universities into the teacher workforce). During my service years, I discovered teaching was my superpower and never looked back.Supporting my students at the highest level became my number one priority. When I was a math teacher in middle school/upper elementary, I sought out opportunities to hone my ability to teach literacy when I noticed many of my students struggled to decode word problems. I was trained to administer reading and writing tests to evaluate fluency and comprehension and used that information to guide instruction. I also learned how to support students with IEPs by focusing on neurodiversity in graduate school. Later in my career, I became a history teacher with a focus on developing my student's writing abilities. In the middle of my teaching career, I was recruited to teach other teachers. While I was flattered and excited to be recognized for my talents, one of my major joys in life is being able to teach my students directly. Tutoring is the way I have the best of both worlds. I can continue to write curriculum and coach new educators while still working directly with young people outside the classroom as a tutor.Personally, I've always been very bubbly and curious. I believe that young people benefit most when they are supported by adults, they trust so building trusting relationships with students is a big part of my practice. It's very important to me that young people also gain self-worth/acceptance alongside their schoolwork because a deep-rooted belief in yourself is the foundation of success.Supporting my students at the highest level became my number one priority. I am a certified teacher with a strong interest in fostering lifelong scientific literacy. I attained my Bachelor of Arts in General Studies with a concentration in Plant Science and Forest Ecology. After working for a few years, I realized I was passionate about teaching and returned to college. I earned a Master's of Teaching at Sacred Heart and am currently certified to teach biology, general science, and earth science in Connecticut. Post graduation, I taught middle school math and science and have spent some time being a full time mom. I am available to tutor a variety of subjects, and most enjoy teaching biology, ecology, and the scientific method. I think the best way to learn is to find a way to make the material relatable and part of the bigger picture. I certainly don't mind relating subjects with a fun or gross bit of information or an analogy using fictional references. Personally, this made teaching and learning about anatomy and digestion all the more interesting. During my free time, I enjoy the outdoors, plant identification, cooking, yoga, reading, and gardening.
I'm an avid reader and lover of History first among other things. Science trivia and biology fascinate me as well. I love learning and deepening my understandings by explaining or discussing them with others. In my free time I bike, read, write fiction, and watch cheesy sci-fi shows.
I graduated from South Eugene High School in 2012 and have been continuing my education at Hampshire College with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience. This branch of study is very broad and ranges from biochemistry and molecular biology to mathematical models and studies in artificial intelligence. This means that I often use concepts from mathematics, biology, and chemistry at an advanced level in my studies at Hampshire.I have had previous tutoring experience as a math tutor at Hampshire College and by writing tutorials to explain software for Moonshadow Mobile. Both of these experiences have given me insight into how to break down difficult concepts into smaller parts. My goal as a tutor is to help my students understand the basic building blocks and to create an environment where they can put the blocks together themselves . People tend to think of math and science as analytical rather than creative, and I think that this is misleading about the true nature of these fields. Outside of school I paint, draw, sew, and design clothes and jewelry, and I approach math and science with similar creativity. I think that math and science can be very creative and that learning how to interact with math and science creatively can be an invaluable part of someones education. I want to find out how to motivate people to think about math and science in a creative fashion that is fun and interactive rather than simply giving them a list of formulas to work with.I am excited to be working as a tutor. I think that this can be an enriching experience for both me and my students.
I received my Masters Degree in International Politics and Business from New York University, and am currently on a year long leave from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center based in China. I am a certified ESL instructor. In addition to my tutoring work, I am currently working as a content marketing intern for a Shanghai-based consulting firm. I have taught all over the world from South America to East Asia, and collectively have years of tutoring experience. These experiences have been as diverse as teaching English as a Second Language, students in underfunded school districts basic math and reading skills, and new mothers the test taking skills required to pass the GRE. Although I love teaching ESL, I am also experienced in teaching Verbal and Quantitative subjects as well as standardized test preparation. I am deeply invested in the process of learning, and I am passionate about helping people develop critical life skills in the pursuit of short term academic success.
I'm currently a student at Animschool, and have graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts from Hampshire College.I've self taught myself Blender around 11 years ago, and in college, I taught it to other students as a teacher's assistant for 2 of those years. I've also done 1-on-1 tutoring teaching Blender. There's something rewarding about helping others learn and troubleshoot issues, and in return, learn more about them and gain a friendship. I hope to do that with those who love CGI as much as I do.
I am a recent graduate of Hampshire College with a background in teaching math intensive subject matter to students studying the humanities. I’ve TA’d four semesters of college classes, and in that time, I have developed a passion for instilling a love of learning. My senior thesis was in the field of education; I developed an electronics curriculum intended to be taught to math-phobic artists and designers. Due to my personal history with learning disabilities, I have a great deal of practice reframing the perspective in which material is considered, learned, and taught, in order to cater to each individuals’ needs. I am a strong believer that absolutely anyone can learn to work fluidly with the concepts presented in math classes, and that material is best engaged with in modalities suited to an individual’s learning style. I tutor all maths taught before the end of highschool, from Elementary classes through Calculus BC. I believe firmly in teaching students the skills they need to solve problems on their own, and in doing so, helping them learn to perform this process for themselves in the future. I practice martial arts, and recently have begun some yoga. I enjoy dancing and running. I have three plants, and like to play tag. I used to practice some circus skills, and love to play a wide variety of games. I think feminism is rad, and that one of the best things to practice is seeing everyone as a person. I have a Bachelors in Electronic Design, and love to learn.
I have a background in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry. I have taken Chemical Engineering coursework. I was a former Research and Development Engineer/Scientist I at Honeywell-UOP, which is a leading petrochemical company that develops fluid catalytic cracking and other process technologies. I moved into strategic marketing and business development where I was a Sr. Business Consultant in Honeywell's energy consulting practice. Then I managed their Combustion Controls business in the TX, OK, and LA area. Now I manage the CAD/CAE/CAM/CAID software business in the Central Region for PTC.
