I am a recent graduate from Harvey Mudd College, a top undergraduate engineering and liberal arts institution in California. During my time there, as the class sizes were small, I was able to establish many meaningful connections with my incredible professors. Inspired by their example, I quickly developed my own passions for education and mentorship and since then, I???ve sought out many different opportunities to become a better educator, leader, and scholar.First, I joined an on-campus research group to study educational psychology. In my studies, I learned a lot about the disparities that students from different demographics face when providing and receiving feedback on engineering design. Subsequently, I took classes on Equity in STEM Education to learn more about what I could do as an educator to practice more inclusive pedagogies. I then took up a leadership position in Harvey Mudd's Office of Institutional Diversity as a Mentor and Tutor for their summer bridge program. In this role, I helped support incoming first-year students from marginalized backgrounds by counseling them through emotional crises, leadership development, and countless hours of academic tutoring. To continue mentoring and tutoring, I joined Harvey Mudd's Homework Hotline team, where I assisted K-12 students with homework over the phone. This experience equipped me with training that covered common core, active listening, and effective over-the-phone communication. More importantly, I learned to empathize and connect with a diverse set of students as well as parents.Now, I am working as a member of the Varsity Tutors to continue my work supporting students who desire a strong academic foundation. I seek to help students gain excellence in math through fun and enjoyable learning strategies that are personalized to their unique learning style. I want all of my students to feel that math is approachable, accessible, and meant for them--no matter what their academic background is. I hope that by working with my students, I can empower them to not only be more motivated to do well in school but to also genuinely enjoy learning and developing their academic foundation.

I am a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Harvey Mudd College. Throughout all four years of high school, I tutored my peers in subjects such as chemistry, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics. Passionate about sharing my learning with younger students in the community, I was also a primary instructor for the Kumon Math and Reading Center, where I spent three years teaching math and reading to students who ranged from pre-K to 12th grade. Additionally, as an assistant instructor for the Arizona Science Center's Camp Innovation, I empowered youth by delivering science programming to children between the ages of four and seven. Through such experiences, I've realized the impact that I can have as a tutor.In addition to helping students understand their classwork and improve their grades, I have the opportunity to build positive relationships, bring motivation to those in need of it, and most importantly, help others succeed after recognizing their potential. Although I tutor a wide range of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are those related to math and science because I believe in the importance of building STEM literacy.In my free time, I enjoy hiking, drawing, playing my viola, listening to music, and traveling.
I am passionate about biomedical engineering, and am endlessly amazed by intricacies of the world around us. My degrees are in engineering (BS-General Engineering from Harvey Mudd, MS- Mechanical Engineering, and PhD-Bioengineering from Georgia Tech), but I also love art and literature and linguistics. Outside of academics, I am an avid sports fan (and rugby player) and I love to cook, hike with my dog, and travel.I have tutored many students one-on-one in subjects such as ACT/SAT test prep, writing, AP English, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and physics. I have also taught college level engineering courses. I love helping students through the problem solving process so that they gain confidence in approaching new problems. I see teaching as a give and take between student and teacher, and I look forward to both teaching and learning from my students!
As a systems engineer and data scientist, I mentor and collaborate with other professionals to solve hard problems. In learning, there is no problem that we cannot master with patience and persistence.
I am a motivated student, working on his PhD in Mechanical Engineering. I truly enjoy working with students who are interested in the "why's". I love talking about the motivations of why we learn these subjects, and how they become useful in real life. I am particularly passionate about tutoring mathematics, chemistry, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
I recently (semi-)retired from the I.T. industry after 40+ years - the last 20 years or so I have been in consulting work. I have always enjoyed teaching/tutoring and looked forward to working with junior engineers to get them "up to speed". Now, I am looking forward to making tutoring part of my daily routine. Back in the day, I was an undergrad at Harvey Mudd College (Claremont, CA). and grad student at UC Berkeley. Fast forward 40+ years and my wife and I are living in Maple Grove MN (20 miles NW of Minneapolis). In addition to tutoring and working some part time consulting gigs, I love spending time with my 2 grandkids, and my three grown kids. As an undergraduate student, I tutored engineering and math courses in walk-in 'help' sessions. My subjects were math (calculus I and II, and systems engineering.) As a graduate student, I taught computer programming for peers in my graduate program. The purpose was to share knowledge with my peers so that they could complete computer programming assignments as required in their class work. At the graduate level, I also worked with my Professor in designing and implementing statistically based choice modeling programs using complex mathematical algorithms. Professionally I have mentored numerous entry level engineers in both hard and soft work skills to succeed on their job. The mentoring was primarily technology related (computer science and math topics), but frequently communication skills were discussed, which are so important on the job. I learned a lot about tutoring through the opportunity to mentor over 40 years of professionalwork. This was something I truly enjoyed, and was instrumental in my decision to tutor after I retired from full time work. I have a special love of mathematics and continue to teach myself advanced topics to this day. I am still proud of placing 3rd in the State of Arizona math challenge for high school juniors - and "math is fun" has been part of my life ever since. One of my greatest thrills was working with my son through his high school years to prepare him for advanced placement as a math major in his undergraduate work. In the meantime, I keep fresh on my math skills by working problems - including trig and calculus- on a weekly basis. (And YES!, it is for fun too). I look forward to sharing my love of learning with my students!
