I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education along with concentrations in math and reading. As a result, I am certified to teach all subjects in grades K-6 and math and ELA through grade 8. I have taught almost every grade and subject K-8, but have a passion for reading and math. I believe in the importance of lifelong learning and am currently earning my masters degree in curriculum and instruction from Western Governors University. I love teaching because a strong education has the power to change a person's life. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy hiking, reading, and spending time with my family.
I have been a physics professor at Roosevelt University since 2013. I received my Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics from Michigan State University. I have a strong interest in physics education research and teaching and mentoring in general. I want most to help people to achieve their personal and professional goals, both in academics and in life. I enjoy meeting students at their level of understanding and building bridges to new concepts and skills in an accepting yet challenging environment. I also study and teach Nonviolent Communication, which I use to connect with myself and others to solve problems collaboratively. My goal here is to enable students to become self-empowered learners. Elsewhere, I enjoy bicycling, yoga, and philosophy.
I have been working with children and teaching a variety of subjects and ages for about fifteen years. I became a certified K-12 French teacher after graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and I recently got my Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. During my time at IUP I studied abroad in Nancy, France and completed an internship teaching English to elementary school French students. I have taught French ranging from introductory levels to CHS (college in high school) and have tutored French students of all ages in basic vocabulary, grammar, conversation, and more. While at Pitt, I worked on acquisition of language, including some course work and tutoring in English as a Second Language. In addition to French, I was a fifth grade teacher for three years, where I taught subjects such as math, history, geography, literature, language arts, spelling, and writing. I have worked with students on problem-solving and test-prep specifically in math and language arts.I love working one-on-one with students and discovering the individual differences that exist within each learner. I pride myself in treating my students with patience, professionalism, and most importantly, respect. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and strive to pass my love of learning along to my students.
Hello! Let me give you a snapshot of my background and passions in order to pique your interest in selecting me as your Varsity Tutor. I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Duquesne University, both schools are located in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region. My degrees include a BA and MA in Political Science and an MBA. I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served honorably for 21 years, retiring in 2016. My military career allowed me to "see the world" as an aviator, and I continue to travel in my current job as a charter pilot. I am passionate about helping others in their career pursuits to successfully join the military and/or to become a professional pilot. Both professions require dedication and hard work to be successful but are also very rewarding in return. I work hard to help my students with their career preparations, and also try to provide some insight into what they can expect moving forward. Don't be hesitant to ask me questions, and I will do my best to provide correct real-word answers. Remember you CAN achieve your dreams through hard work and perseverance! I would enjoy helping you via Varsity Tutors.

I've been a teacher for 15 years and love all kinds of science! I love teaching because I love learning and would love to work with you to learn more about the universe around us. My teaching philosophy is that enthusiasm is contagious and that the best way to motivate students to learn is to embody how much you care about them and about the content of what you are teaching. As a tutor of all topics pertaining to Nutrition who also helps prepare students to pass the RD exam, I am extremely passionate about the importance of this science and in the importance of nutrition in the medical profession.I also find it important to keep students engaged and actively involved in their education and as such strive to be down-to-earth, relevant, relatable, and keep an open dialogue. After receiving my Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Nutrition and Dietetics and completing my Dietetic Internship at Priority Nutrition Care Distance Dietetic Internship, I had the opportunity to work as an Inpatient Dietitian for a little over 4 years. During that time, I have familiarized myself with the duties and responsibilities of what a Dietitian does in the hospital setting. As such, I have a strong background in the clinical aspects of the RD exam. I was actually hired by the hospital I interned at prior to passing the RD exam, and since passing the exam myself, I have helped multiple Dietetic Interns that I have precepted also pass the RD exam.It brings me great joy to help students familiarize themselves with the subject matter on the RD Exam as well as better understand the importance of nutrition as a science as they prepare themselves in their roles as future Dietitians. In the future I would like to obtain a Masters and/or certification in Functional medicine which I believe to be the future of our healthcare system.
