I love to teach reading, and I tell my students that learning a new skill is like having a secret conversation with the author, where you learn more and more about what you read!I continue to engage tactics in my classroom. I strive to give students strategies they can apply independently to strengthentheir understanding of big ideas and key concepts. My goal is to work with students to improve on their strengths so that they feel confident in their academic abilities, and also zooming in on what they struggle with, and providing them with effective strategies to help them be successful!I believe that any student can find great achievement, with the right tools and guidance. In my leisure time, I like to read, go on nature walks, and ride my bike!
I am a lifetime learner who enjoys sharing my knowledge with others, as well as learning from others. I am passionate about helping students for I was once a student; having several great tutors, this allowed me to succeed in both College and Graduate School, and I yearn to give back the same knowledge to others. I have worked with students in elementary, middle, and high school, as well as college. I have also worked with adults returning to college, and I have enjoyed tutoring and mentoring students in each group.I graduated from Iona College with a Bachelors In Business Administration, majoring in Finance; Long Island University with a MBA, majoring in Business Administration Management; and most recently Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Arts in Religion, majoring in Pastoral Counseling.Business Writing and World Religions are my favorite subjects to tutor; I love to write, have written extensively, and I also love Religion. My teaching style is simple, I find out where the student is, I asses the pace the student learns at, and I adjust my teaching method to meet the student where they are. I love to give lots of examples and scenarios so that the student can grasp the concept clearly.Outside of academia, preaching, travel and reading interests me on the whole. I love to preach, I love to travel, and I love to read. I also love exploring and learning new things, which I eagerly share with others. I so look forward to interacting with, and helping my students in the subjects I tutor.

Hello, my name is Joyce. Thank you for checking out my profile! I am NYS certified for mathematics, grades 7-12. I hold a Bachelor's of Arts in Math and a Master's in Math Education, both from IONA College in New Rochelle, New York. I have tutored math for the past 23 years, all levels, children, teens and adults. I was a math teacher for 15 years. I taught PreAlgebra, Algebra1, Geometry, Algebra2, Trigonometry, Personal Finance and PreCalculus. I worked with thousands of students in traditional, honors level, College level, and collaborative classroom settings. Now only tutoring, I love that I can focus my energy tutoring, spending more time with my family, and doing more Zumba! I will always make my explanations clear and understood. I like to take a math problem step-by-step. I can explain a problem in multiple ways. After 15 years of teaching, I like to think I'm an expert at deciding which method to choose after a quick assessment with a student. I love that Varsity Tutors allows me to easily access assessment questions, practice tests and other instructional resources to aid our tutoring sessions. For older students, I am an expert with the TI Calculators. The online whiteboard learning offered on Varsity Tutors is amazing, and teaching math is very easy using their online tutoring technology. I like to type as I talk (yes, I type very fast!) so that a student doesn't have to remember what I said for notes, a great asset for visual learners. For elementary students, I like to use manipulatives like fraction tiles and base 10 blocks alongside traditional methods, great for visual and tactile learners. I play games to make things more fun. I can teach with every common core method, just like a textbook. Online learning is made very colorful when I cut and paste pictures of fractions, bar graphs or other visuals, just like in a classroom. I hope that I am the math tutor that best fits your needs. Thank you so much and all the best!
A fool does not learn from their mistakes, a common person learns from their mistakes, but, a wise person learns from the mistakes of others. Learning history from any point of time helps us understand the perspective of others, which can in turn help us understand ourselves.
