I am a student at Juniata College in Pennsylvania studying Environmental Science and French. I am passionate about tutoring and I have worked as a tutor for international studentsl. I have been taking French for eight years and will study abroad this coming June. I firmly believe that every student is capable of reaching their full potential with the right training for them. I believe in the importance of tutor flexibility and I am willing to meet students where they are, accommodating a wide variety of student learning styles.I have experience working with students in need of writing and reading assistance. I am also a qualified SAT tutor and ran the tutoring program at my High School, during which I gained experience training other tutors and teaching them a wide variety of strategies.During my junior year, I completed a research project on language acquisition in second language learners. The focus of my study was on the importance of emotional support in academic settings. Since completing this study, I have retained a strong interest in this concept and work to make sure my students are confident in themselves in order to boost their academics. I graduated from Juniata College with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in German and Philosophy. I've tutored for three years as an undergraduate student for Juniata and have the most experience tutoring writing, math, and German. It is most exciting for me to tutor German and writing because I am incredibly passionate about the German language and culture, and from my perspective bettering one's writing is also a process in bettering one's thinking. I find it rewarding to help students overcome many of the same challenges and hurtles that I and my peers overcame. Tutoring is a way for me to repay a debt I feel I owe to my own teachers by helping others succeed where my teachers helped me succeed. I am a recent graduate from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. I graduated with a BS in Biology and a minor in Spanish. During my four years at Juniata, I held a number of leadership roles such as Vice President of Spanish Club and was a Bonner leader during my sophomore year. I also studied abroad twice: once between my freshman and sophomore year in Orizaba, Mexico and a second time during my junior year in Quito, Ecuador. I became fluent in Spanish during these immersion programs and fine-tuned aspects of grammar in Spanish classes. Due to my expertise, I was selected to be a Spanish II lab leader during my senior year and tutored four students in Spanish I and II. I also had the opportunity to do yeast genetics research while at Juniata during my senior year. This project really allowed me to experiment on my own and helped me with problem solving and troubleshooting protocols. While my academic pursuits were extremely interesting and engaging, I also try to achieve a balance between life and work. I am an avid mountain biker, fly fisherman, and when I am at the beach, I absolutely love to surf. Through this balance of work and play, I manage to remain very relaxed and easily approachable.
