Before moving to Florida, I graduated from McDaniel College with a Master's Degree in Deaf Education. I have worked with deaf students (ranging from elementary to middle school, both with and without mental disabilities) at a deaf school in Pennsylvania. In addition, I provided manipulatives and hands-on activities in order to assist my deaf students with lessons they were struggling with, and volunteered to tutor struggling students at home. Currently, I hold a Florida certification in Deaf Education. I also love teaching elementary math and grammar at the third-grade level or below, and American Sign Language for students aged 10 and up. Sign language is very fun to learn and use, no matter what your age may be.My favorite subject is math because people use math every day, from everything from money and measurements to time. I love to enable students to think of different ways to calculate addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and to consider writing those equations in multiple ways. In all of these subjects, my students develop their skills over time and improve their mastery of math on a daily basis.As I value students' education, I believe in a student-centered style of teaching--partly because students love to take ownership of their own learning, but also because putting students in control of their education enables them to remember information readily. Through this approach, they develop thinking skills by doing tasks independently or in small groups. They are also given hands-on activities and computer games to pick up new ideas, adding to their prior knowledge. Those activities help motivate students to become more engaged in the learning process. As a result, I believe that ownership over their education helps students develop and master skills.I believe it is also essential to help deaf students think and answer questions independently. By asking questions and letting them answer as best as they can, I am able to ascertain exactly how much they understand and have learned. I like using various manipulatives, such as board and computer games, in order to better develop the skills of motivated but struggling students. After American Sign Language (ASL) sessions, I also like to have hearing students practice ASL at home, using computer programs and websites like ASLpro.com. I will engage them in natural conversation at home, beginning with simple signs until they have learned enough to work on more complex ones.

I am a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary and Kindergarten Education. I have taught over 11 years in the elementary school setting and I have tutored for over 15 years at the elementary, middle, and high school setting. My love for teaching reading continued and I furthered my education at Mount Saint Mary's University for training in Reading Recovery. I started my career teaching kindergarten and currently am a reading specialist in my school district, where I work one on one and in small groups with struggling readers. My passion is for tutoring early learners to help them gain the skills they need to grow as readers and writers. In my tutoring sessions I love to get to know my learners interests and personalities. I incorporate manipulatives, sight word games, leveled texts, and writing into sessions to make sessions more engaging. I love to build confidence in my learners by focusing on their strengths in order to get the most amount of growth out of my learners. My hobbies include exercise, spending time with my family, and going to the beach.

Students need help and practice with foreign language learning and speaking! And I understand how a language is learned and how it is taught. I started my own foreign language journey when I was just 8 years old in a French immersion program in elementary school. I continued with French for 7 years and then started German. I received a B.A. in French with Secondary Education Certification plus minors in English and German. During college I studied abroad for a semester in southern France. Decades later, I was able to easily add Spanish because of my exposure to 2 other languages and the tools I had gained in how to learn another language. I also received my Masters degree in Foreign Language Education where my studies were equally divided between French, Spanish and Education classes. I am a retired and certified teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience in public and private schools from elementary to middle and high school to college. I have used my multiple languages (French, Spanish and German) in 30 trips out of the country to visit 26 different countries. I am currently a French and Spanish tutor with several tutoring services including our local community college. I know that I have the training, experience, and knowledge and can encourage a student to succeed in foreign language learning. I have hundreds of documents from my years of teaching that could help a student make sense of the vocabulary and grammar that they need to learn in order to be successful. I can help set and achieve goals. I am very enthusiastic about travel and foreign languages, and I have proven that I work effectively and efficiently with all ages. I am a certified Deaf Education teacher. I have taught in five states in both public school settings and deaf schools. I have worked with students from pre-school through high school age with a focus mainly in elementary school. While my focus has been Deaf Education, I have experience with typical students along with those who have a variety of additional special needs. I believe that all students have the potential to achieve, and I tailor my instruction to allow each individual student to reach their highest potential. I'm a first generation college graduate and a connoisseur of business management, economics, and time-study engineering.
