I am an experienced tutor and special education teacher. I attended Meredith College, where I earned a degree in History with minors in Political Science and Public History. I also received my Master's in Special Education from Western Carolina University.I am a passionate teacher who believes every student can learn. I believe each student has his or her own unique learning style, and having a teacher who understands this fact will greatly improve a student's success. My experience as a special educator has allowed me to become very adept at helping students find their strengths and using them to promote academic success. While my favorite subjects to teach and tutor involve history and politics, I am skilled at tutoring students in reading, writing, math, and study skills.

I am currently studying English literature and secondary education at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. I love Game of Thrones, Warhammer, and YouTube channels about world travel and languages. I am currently learning Spanish and Arabic, and I hope to be fluent in both someday. My biggest bucket list item is to travel to Bolivia and see the Salar de Uyuni. I have had extensive experience as a tutor of all ages, from helping kindergarteners learn to read and write English to working with adult students on their term papers for college. I am available to tutor reading, writing, basic Spanish, SAT/ACT prep, algebra, geometry, and study skills. As your tutor, my goal is to provide you with the tools to catch your own mistakes rather than just correcting them myself. I want to help you grow as a learner so you can use your own strengths to master the material.
I am a former educator who has worked in public education in North Carolina for six years. I worked as a fifth grade teacher's assistant in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, did my student teaching in Wake County Schools, and taught Family and Consumer Sciences at the middle school level in Orange County Schools. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Elementary Education from Meredith College and am certified in the areas of: Elementary Education K-6, ESL K-12, Middle Grades Mathematics 6-8, and Family and Consumer Sciences 6-12. I look forward to continuing to help students but under a different capacity as a tutor. Education is about training the mind to think critically and creatively, not training to make careers.
I love teaching and making a difference in students lives. I love knowing that I made a difference to someone, even if it's just one person. My favorite moment is the lightbulb moment; when someone gets what you have been trying to explain! I have been a long term substitute and will begin teaching in the fall. I am a certified elementary teacher. I have worked with students of all ages, but love working with elementary students!
I am a dedicated and encouraging educator with a strong background in child development and classroom teaching. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Teaching, and I have several years of experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. My passion is helping students build confidence, develop strong foundational skills, and discover that learning can be both meaningful and enjoyable. As a tutor, I believe every student learns differently. I take time to understand each learner's strengths, challenges, and goals so I can tailor instruction to meet their individual needs. Whether I am supporting reading and literacy development, strengthening math skills, or helping with organization and study strategies, I focus on clear instruction, patience, and positive reinforcement. I strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing academically. I partner closely with families and students to set achievable goals and celebrate progress along the way. My ultimate goal is not just to help students succeed academically, but to empower them with the confidence and skills they need to become independent, motivated learners.
I am currently an undergraduate student at Meredith College and in the Dual Degree Engineering program they have with NC State. I am working towards a B.A. in Chemistry from Meredith and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from NC State. I am experienced in peer tutoring in a variety of subjects but I am most passionate about chemistry. Through tutoring I wish to help others find a love for knowledge and education, just like I have.
My area of expertise is in undergraduate-level remedial chemistry, as well as General Chemistry I & II, and Organic Chemistry I & II. Throughout my career, I have focused on teaching undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds, encompassing diverse ages, life experiences, and socioeconomic circumstances. I hold two master's degrees, one in Chemistry and the other in Education, with specializations in STEM and Special Education. My undergraduate degree is in Chemistry. Currently, I serve as a faculty member at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. I have been teaching at the undergraduate level since 2001, with experience that includes both professional academic appointments and private instruction. During a six-year period when I was a stay-at-home mother, I continued to tutor students on a part-time basis. During this time, I worked privately with high school students diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, and other learning differences, as well as with gifted students, in subjects including chemistry, other sciences, and mathematics. Now that my husband has retired from the Marine Corps, he and I enjoy the time we have visiting our children and grandchildren, traveling and taking in ant new sites we can.
