I taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).I will bring to my tutoring responsibilities a sensibility shaped by nineteen years of teaching diverse communities of students across the worldmostly in the US, but also in India. My responsibilities in my most recent position have included supervision of teaching internships, help with student placement, oversight of undergraduate grant-funded research, and advising English majors and minors. Nominated by students, I won UNL Parents Association's "Certificate of Recognition for Contributions to Students." As a graduate student at Michigan State University, I won the Excellence in Teaching Award given to only six teaching assistants annually. I was nominated by the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures where I taught.I owe much of my success in effectively teaching across a large arc of English studies to the seriousness with which I take my student evaluations. Over the years I have consistently adapted my classes to meet the needs of the student body by sometimes even revamping whole courses.For years I have been invested in the philosophy of human potential and how to create optimum conditions for best performance, and will bring that same philosophy to tutoring. One of the main objectives that I will bring to my tutoring responsibilities is creating conditions that will sustain the motivation of my students to bring out their true potential through their performance irrespective of their prior preparation. This is particularly important students will come in with different levels of preparation for the courses that I will tutor. Creating an open environment where the inexperienced student can also express her understanding of the material fearlessly so that the instructor can turn such opportunities into tutoring and learning moments by drawing on her remarks and expanding beyond them fosters a more inclusive environment. This instills confidence in students and enhances confidence and self-directed learning and their overall ability to perform. Such a pedagogy makes it easier for students to handle the intellectual demands of the new kinds of material.

I've always loved school and learning. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the idea that anyone can learn anything, so long as the instructor is willing to teach to the student's style of learning. Most subjects came easily to me, but I hit a wall with math in middle school and just never seemed to be able to get it to 'click.' Then, I had a very patient teacher who helped me figure out how I could learn math, and it was like the wall crashed down. I would love to see every teacher have to teach his or her worst subject for a couple of years, in order to figure out how to become a better instructor.

I am a certified teacher and have taught for over 15 years. My successful teaching includes teaching Kindergarten through High School as well as 12 years of College Instruction in Business Communications, in which I am currently teaching.In K 12 Education, my strengths lie in Elementary Math, Reading, Reading comprehension, Writing, Essay Writing, Grammar & Mechanics, Public Speaking/Speech, ACT and SAT English Prep. I have a great deal of experience working with students with ESL students and learning disabilities as well as on-level and above level students. My teaching style allows me to embrace each student's differences and allows me to easily make modifications to instruction based on the needs of the student.In College Instruction, my strengths are in Reading and Reading comprehension. In addition, I am qualified to teach Writing, Essay Writing, Grammar & Mechanics, Business Communications, Business Writing, Business Presentations and Proposals, and Employment Communications such as Resumes and Cover Letters. My teaching style in this area can be a mix of instruction, coaching and mentorship with students who are looking for guidance in how to communicate their desires for that next career move or essay writing for college or scholarship applications.

I am a graduate of Michigan State University. I received my bachelors of science in Mathematics. I had been a teacher's assistant for a middle school math class for two semesters in college. Since graduation (August '13), I have been a Professional Tutor at West Shore Community College, and I was promoted to run the Math Center as Lead Tutor until I moved from Michigan to Chicago quite recently. I specialize in tutoring across the board in Mathematics; elementary math, middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, statistics, and pre-calculus.I want to be a tutor to make a positive impact on the children's education. The next generation needs the proper stimulation in not only what to think, but how to think. The logical foundation and critical analysis that comes with studying and learning mathematics can be tangentially applied to any aspect in life. I'm passionate about making a difference with those who need it the most through tutoring.In my spare time, I enjoy all aspects of soccer; playing, coaching, refereeing, and spectating. I am also passionate about fitness and health, as well as any pick up sports to play for fun.

I tutor Elementary through Middle School including adult literacy. Subjects include: reading, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, math, states and capitols and more! My presentations are high energy lessons utilizing math games and puzzles, computer software and visuals. I have been a tutor since 1987 and have volunteered 1000s of hours at area schools. My students may use a low powered FM station to write their own radio show. This entices them to read/write and be creative

I am a graduate from Michigan State University with a B.A. in English literature, a specialization in creative writing and minors in Linguistics and Japanese. I am currently pursuing certification as a teacher of mathematics, Japanese, and English literature at the secondary level. I have worked for the last year and a half as a tutor of students grades 4th-12th in math, English, reading skills, study skills, and English and reading ACT prep.My specialty in math is in helping students who struggle with the abstract nature of math to understand why the steps are the way they are, and in helping to improve the student's fluency with math vernacular. Because I come from a verbal background, I work especially well with students who excel at verbal subjects, but struggle at math.

I have been a physics professor at Roosevelt University since 2013. I received my Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics from Michigan State University. I have a strong interest in physics education research and teaching and mentoring in general. I want most to help people to achieve their personal and professional goals, both in academics and in life. I enjoy meeting students at their level of understanding and building bridges to new concepts and skills in an accepting yet challenging environment. I also study and teach Nonviolent Communication, which I use to connect with myself and others to solve problems collaboratively. My goal here is to enable students to become self-empowered learners. Elsewhere, I enjoy bicycling, yoga, and philosophy.

I'm a third-year student at Michigan State University, studying Chemical Engineering. Helping others learn is something I'm really passionate about because I know what it's like to struggle in school without much support. Over time, I've picked up some tricks that helped me understand things better, and I love sharing those with people. My experience with teaching has been great, especially when working with students who have learning disabilities. I've learned how to explain things in different ways, like talking things through, using visual aids, or breaking down why something works the way it does. These methods help me connect with students and make sure they get what they need to succeed. While I offer support across a range of subjects, my true passion lies in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Mathematics. I find particular joy in tutoring Organic Chemistry, a subject often perceived as daunting. By shifting the focus from rote memorization to deep comprehension, I aim to reveal the inherent excitement and logic within Organic Chemistry, making it an engaging and enjoyable pursuit for my students. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, singing, and hanging out with friends. These things keep me balanced and happy.

Aside from being an avid scholar, I am a world traveler and enjoy trying new things! I also love to run, draw, read, and cook, either with friends or simply by myself. I stay in shape both mentally and physically: I am constantly training to be my best. Whenever the opportunity arises to help elevate someone, I take it. Helping a student reach their goals is equally as rewarding for my student and myself.

I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Biology/Microbiology and a minor in Spanish. My tutoring experience began in college, where I tutored Student-Athletes in many different subjects. I also student taught and provided tutoring sessions for a biology course. These positions taught me how gratifying and fun it is to interact with others in the learning process! After graduation, I spent a year traveling and volunteering internationally, immersing myself in a variety of cultures. Currently, I am a full-time AmeriCorps member, where I serve in a charter school tutoring 5th - 8th grade students in mathematics. I enjoy engaging with students in all subjects, from algebra to Spanish to writing. When I'm not involved in educational activities, I like to hike, teach my dog new tricks, play Scrabble, and practice yoga.

Currently a doctoral teaching assistant at the university level, I have many years of experience teaching both middle school and high school. My strengths are math, music, and test prep, but I am eager to help students achieve their goals with any subject matter.
