I have a Master's in Math and Statistics and had been working as a senior analyst for the last several years where my job was focused heavily on computer coding. Before that I was an analyst, I taught College Algebra during my master's program. During my undergrad, I tutored in all subjects of math, physics, and some engineering courses.I recently moved to Portland and began an Urban Farming Apprenticeship. I love learning and have a teaching background in Math and Statistics. My undergrad is in Math Education and I have work with a full spectrum of students with great results.

I am a mathematician with Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mathematics with a passion for teaching and experience of both teaching and tutoring Mathematics for several years. Hi. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and minors in Statistics and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. I worked as a shipping supervisor until the business I worked for closed down in 2019. I was then offed an emergency license to teach 8th grade math. In 2020, my emergency license was extended to virtually teach Foundations of Algebra. In 2021, I was asked to teach Geometry for 10-12th grade students. I'm currently an Office Administrator, however, I missed the time I spent tutoring the students, and I'm hoping to help more students find some understanding and enjoyment in math.

As a graduate with a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, I am passionate about equipping students with the language skills necessary for success in government, academia, and cross-cultural communication. With over two years of tutoring experience, I focus on middle school writing, emphasizing practical communication skills and cultural awareness. Hi, my name is Ray Ostfeld and I have been teaching mathematics for 19 years. I came to teaching as a career change after working as an actuary for many years and then taking off about 8 years to be a stay at home father. For those of you who have never heard of an actuary, an actuary is a person who financial mathematics and probability and statistics to price and monitor insurance products such as car insurance, life insurance, and pensions. I have enjoyed many years teaching algebra and geometry in both regular and alternative settings. I have helped many struggling students become successful. My students build stronger math skills and they develop the confidence necessary for greater math achievement. I love teaching math and I particularly enjoy helping students one-on-one to solve math problems. I promise to do my best to find a way or an approach to help you succeed.

I have been an instructor of German levels I, II, III, IV and German Conversation at the UWM School of Continuing Education since 2010. I also teach a German for Travelers course, which continues to be popular among those who are about to travel to Germany. More than just language, I teach cross-cultural awareness. Bilingual in English and German, I also know Spanish and French. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration/international business with minors in economics and German from Minnesota State University. Between high school and college, I was a foreign exchange student in Germany for one year, where I lived with a German host family and attended the Wilhelm Gymnasium in Braunschweig. Professionally, I have 20+ years experience in the area of business management, marketing, operations and sales having worked in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. During this time, I lived and worked in Germany for over three years as the director of sales and marketing for a German manufacturer of medical rehabilitation and sports training equipment, covering Europe and the Middle East. I understand the cultural nuances related to marketing and selling products globally and continue to apply my skills in the field of international business supporting companies with my sales and marketing expertise, in addition to translating collateral and correspondence used in sales and marketing into German. In my free time, I enjoy real estate investing, mountain biking and international travel having been to more than 65 countries, most recently Costa Rica to improve my Spanish.

I have worked solely in the HVAC world. I have sat behind a computer designing and modeling HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial buildings to being in the field as a mechanical contractor installing these systems. Currently, I am a project manager where I manage each of my projects from start to finish. Each client/job has its own set of unique restraints that require out of the box thinking to deliver the best results for the customer. I Love Tutoring Because it gives me an opportunity to give back. Without the tutors and teachers that I had in my life, I firmly believe that I wouldn't have continued down the career path that I did. I am a sociology professor with well over two decades of fulltime higher education experience. I was born and raised in the Upper Midwest, 13th of 14 children in a family of educators going back several generations. I graduated from Northland College of Wisconsin with a Sociology major and a minor in Native American Studies. I completed a doctorate in Sociology at Virginia Tech 6-1/2 years later.The primary focus in my professional life has been teaching. As a sociology professor, I have worked with students to help them master the major concepts and knowledge of the field and to draw out the importance of what they are learning for their lives as individuals and members of the community. I have taught in a wide variety of learning environments and have demonstrated an ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.I have a very broad teaching background that includes most areas of sociology and a few related social science areas. I have taught Introductory Sociology, Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups, Social Theory, Research Methods, Sociology of the Family, Medical Sociology, Native American Cultures, Contemporary Cultural Issues, Deviance and Criminology, Social Welfare Issues and Policy, Sociology of Religion, Social Problems, Freshman Seminar and many others.I recognise the tremendous value in developing writing skills and acquiring a general mastery of the English language. At Virginia Tech, I participated in the first project of its kind nationally to bring essay writing into very large freshman general education classes; in our case, Introductory Sociology. As a professor, I have been involved in Writing Across the Curriculum and have made writing an important component of my sociology classes.
