I take pleasure in learning about it (both in the classroom and laboratory) as well as going on to teach these principles. I use my passion to help convey the nuances of scientific concepts and will help my students develop their own appreciation for the material. It is my hope that my students will not only do well on their exams and homework but will be able to approach fresh material with confidence and even go on to help their classmates through difficult concepts or problems. I can work with students to help them master the material for a particular topic or to construct a comprehensive program for enrichment throughout the course.While earning my Bachelor's degree at The University of Chicago, I studied both the biological sciences and the historical context of large-scale research projects in Biology (as an example, the Human Genome Project). I then completed my Master's thesis in Transplant Immunology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine where I studied the methods the host immune system employs to reject donated tissues. I currently work as a researcher in immunology at the NYU Skirball Center for Biomolecular Medicine.Apart from my laboratory background, I also have substantial writing experience. As an undergraduate, I was a writer and editor for The Triple Helix Journal. This publication covers legal, ethical, and political implications of newly minted discoveries in science and medicine. Also, throughout my laboratory research career I have written and edited manuscripts for publications in research journals. I am available to help students find their voice in college admissions essays or to simply work on the formatting and clarity of individual pieces for class.I look forward to helping you to succeed in your science coursework and conveying your ideas and arguments on paper!
I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Florida, and I am currently a graduate student working toward my PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I enjoy science and math and have experience tutoring Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and more. I am also a teaching assistant for graduate level Biostatistics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I emphasize learning the fundamental concepts behind any topic and doing many practice problems. Doing this helps students gain confidence with a subject and gives them the tools necessary to succeed on exams.
I developed a passion for biology at Gettysburg College while researching cell cycle control and DNA damage repair pathways in the common bread mold Aspergillus nidulans. This experience led me to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I decided to start tutoring because it is the perfect opportunity for me to share my passion for science and gain valuable teaching experience. The two things that make me a great tutor are my deep understanding of biology and my ability to communicate complex concepts in ways that are easy to understand. My passion for science and education also makes my tutoring sessions a lot of fun for my students.Outside of tutoring I love being active and outside. I am desperately trying to get better at tennis in the summer and racquetball in the winter. You can also see me riding my bike around the city all year round.
I'm a Master's student at the Graduate School - Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai getting my degree in Biomedical Sciences. I received my undergraduate degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Biomedical Sciences. My ultimate goal is to become an Orthopedic Surgeon with the hopes of opening my own practice. My hope is that through tutoring I am able to inspire students to love the subjects as much as I do. Learning should not only be informative, but fun as well.
Education is a passion for me. I've loved it ever since I was a child and love it now that I am able to share my knowledge with others. I received my BA in Biochemistry at Vassar College, my MSC in Anatomy & Physiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College of UPEI, and my PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Orthopedics) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Subjects revolving around biology and chemistry are therefore my area of expertise and what I most enjoy tutoring.I don't have a singular approach to tutoring. It starts with getting to know the student and how they best assimilate information. Everyone is different.
