As a dedicated educator and Doctoral student in Human Resources Management, I am passionate about empowering students through tailored academic coaching and specialized subjects such as AP English Literature and Composition, essay editing, and public speaking. With over 5 years of tutoring experience, I adopt a hands-on approach that emphasizes active involvement, enabling students to engage deeply with the material and develop critical thinking skills. I believe that understanding is best achieved through collaboration and encouragement, fostering a supportive learning environment where each student can thrive. My goal is to instill confidence and competence in my students, preparing them for both academic success and real-world challenges. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading and exploring effective communication strategies, which further enrich my teaching methods.

With associate degrees in Math, Physical Science, and Life Sciences, a BS in Biology, and an M.Ed. in Teaching Mathematics, I am passionate about fostering a dynamic, interdisciplinary approach to education. For over a decade, I have taught students in grades 3-12, creating inclusive, engaging spaces where critical thinking thrives and connections between subjects come to life. Education is my calling, and as I pursue an MS in Biology with a concentration in policy making, I strive to inspire students to see the profound interconnectedness of knowledge and its impact on the world.
"Good morning, good afternoon, and good night, superstars! ???? I am SO excited that you get to be in my tutoring sessions! I feel like the luckiest teacher in Tennessee because I get to learn and grow right alongside all of you. My name is James, and I've been teaching wonderful kids just like you for 16 years. I'm a special education teacher here in Tennessee, and I have a Doctorate in Special Education, which just means I went to school for a really long time so I could be the very best teacher for you. I love watching my students light up when they learn something new, when they finally "understand it," or when they feel proud of themselves. That's my favorite part of every single day! So here's my promise to you: We're going to have fun, we're going to work hard, and we're going to celebrate every win, big or small, together. You've got this, and I've got you! Now, let's make this the best session ever. Are you ready?!"
Hello! I believe that everyone can reach their learning and academic goals and I'm excited to help! I have worked with so many different age groups and have found that learning and teaching is not "a one size fits all". I am here to help you find it and use it to help you succeed.
I am a recently retired teacher with more than 15 years experience teaching grades 2 through 7. My goal as a tutor is to build the student's confidence as well as the student's ability to master the subject being tutored. Through review and practice, students are able to improve their performance in any given subject.
I am a University of California, Irvine graduate and received a BS in mathematics from there. I also have a secondary math teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton and a Master of Arts in Teaching from National University. I have taught many levels of secondary math including 8th grade math, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. I have tutored these subjects as well as trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. I love tutoring any subject in math, but Algebra II is my favorite because it was during this class in high school that I realized I loved math and wanted to major in it and teach it one day. I want to help students find the fun in math like I did in high school. I believe that all students are capable not only of learning math, but excelling in it. Because I get to know my students and their interests, they are very receptive to learning from me. Outside of math, I enjoying going for runs, going to ballet class, and spending time with my almost 2 year old daughter.
As an academic tutor, my most valuable asset is my nine years of diverse teaching experience in secondary English (Grades 7-12). Thus far in my teaching career, I have taught in public schools, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in South Korea, and a private college preparatory school. Each chapter of my exciting career in education has given me substantial experience using a diverse array of curriculum frameworks, writing instruction methodologies, test prep instruction, and pedagogical practices to help students grow as writers, readers, and communicators. My areas of expertise include, but are certainly not limited to, the Pennsylvania State Standards System and the Common Core, the IB Diploma Program and Middle Years Program, Advanced Placement test preparation (especially in English Language and Composition but also in Literature and Composition), the 6 + 1 Traits Writing instruction model, and instruction in journalistic writing and media literacy. As a high school English teacher, I revel in making complex literary texts or the struggle of the writing process accessible and even enjoyable for students, and I excel in individualizing instruction to specifically meet the unique needs of the students with whom I work. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy hip hop dance aerobics, hiking, learning about East Asian culture, and traveling whenever I can. My education and teaching career have opened a world of opportunity to me, and I am a firm believer in the power of education to create opportunity and open the world for any individual who will invest the time and effort necessary to pursue education and understanding. I look forward to helping you find academic success! My education and teaching credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in English from Liberty University, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from National University, and a permanent Pennsylvania teaching certification for English, Grades 7-12 from the PA Department of Education.
Dr. Sherri has over 10 years of teaching experience that allows her to be confident in her ability to create a safe, friendly, and inviting classroom that allows for student growth and success. She is passionate about education and works diligently to help students have their "ah-ha" moments and benefit from their learning opportunities. With over 10 years of accounting and finance experience, she feels confident in her understanding of the concepts being taught and her ability to bring clarity to students on these concepts. As a teacher, she finds it important to get to know her students as it allows her to understand their personal challenges and motivations. With this information, she is better able to tailor her teaching to what will work best for them and their situation. She believes in teaching by example, allowing students to learn from her mistakes and being as approachable as possible to encourage student/teacher interaction. She frequently uses the "I do, we do, You do" approach in her sessions to allow students to make mistakes in class so she can help them correct their errors immediately.
I currently teach all levels of Spanish at LaRue County High School in Hodgenville, Kentucky. I have 26 years of teaching experience in the public education system from teaching elementary age children to high school students. I enjoy teaching sentence structure and grammar in Spanish to help the Spanish learner figure out how to transfer that skill into a conversation in Spanish. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of San Diego in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Spanish, and earned a Master of Science in Special Education with a specialty in teaching children with mild to moderate disabilities from National University also in San Diego. Currently I am working towards National Board Certification in Early Adolescent through Young Adulthood - World Languages emphasis in Spanish.
I graduated from National University in San Diego with my MA in history, and have been teaching history at the AP, IB, and college level since 2015. As an AP World History teacher, I helped students to better prepare for the essays, especially the Document Based Question through the analysis of both documents and visual images. I believe that so much of student success on the AP and IB history exams comes down to understanding the question, what's being asked and how it's being asked. Beyond the immediate benefit of AP and IB classes and testing, with the possibility of earning college credit, comes the realization that students can be empowered to explore the world and to understand their places within it.
I am an educator who is invested in the future of students. I aim to give students the best education possible by providing education to them based on their individual needs.
With my many years of teaching experience, I have learned that the impact I have on my students is immense. A teacher has the power to make or break a child's mind and soul My choice is always to create. I believe that the young mind has the right to be given an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge they can use throughout their lives. Every student no matter where they come from, what values they hold, and what culture they practice, they should have the opportunity have their minds cultivated and opened. It is only in this regard that they will have the knowledge and ability to think critically, believe in themselves and become citizens that contributes to society's well being.
