I graduated from Nazareth College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Since graduating, I have continued my education and earned my Master of Science degree with a concentration in Nursing Education. My field of work expertise includes emergency and intensive care. I am passionate about teaching and training. I have been a preceptor for graduate nurses and new hire training. I'm a college professor teaching nursing courses and clinical. I completed my doctorate degree August 2022. My favorite teaching subjects are nursing courses. I can adapt my teaching style to the learning style of everyone, as there is no one size fits all to learn. I understand many nursing students' struggles, whether in academia or preparation for the N-CLEX exam. I have struggled through courses and the N-CLEX, and have sought help from tutors. I believe a Standardized Test does and should not define the qualities and skill set that an individual has. Some people are better test-takers than others. I am a firm advocate of education and believe it is necessary for progress in life.
I have a Masters in education and computer science. I have been a teacher, trainer and tutor for over 30 years. I understand that everyone learns differently and at different speeds, so I work hard to make all of my lessons accessible for all students and their needs.
I recently graduated with my Master of Science in Biology degree from SUNY Oneonta where I studied the ecology and physiology of the red backed salamander. I have earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from Nazareth College, one in Biology and the other in Toxicology (think about it like the intersection of Biology and Chemistry). I have previously tutored students in Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I love getting to talk with students about how careers in science, specifically ecology are so fascinating - you can be a field researcher studying lizards in Mexico for months of the year, you can play in rivers and steams sampling for water quality, you can SCUBA dive to study an animal few have ever seen, and the list goes on and on!
Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Denise S. Originally from upstate New York,I did my course studies at Nazareth of Rochester. There, I earned a B.S. in Psychology and a M.A. in Special Education. I formally started my teaching career in 1980. As the years went by, I was afforded my opportunities in numerous environments, which allowed me grow in experience, but more importantly, flourish with passion while serving the students and families that I'd encountered. At one point in my career, I seriously considered joining the Peace Corp. In 1987, I was honored by receiving the First Union Teacher of the Year Award from the school district that I worked for. That very same year my daughter was born. That summer, I started tutoring, which has continued through the years. As an active member of our church, I taught Sunday school and volunteered in the nursery. One of the most vivid memories that I cherish was and still is volunteering and participating with my students at the Special Olympics.
