Japanese and English are my favorite subjects to study by far, as language is a hobby I enjoy, but I always have fun in any subject when the student and I can enjoy and appreciate the session as a whole. On that note, I have always prided my philosophy when it comes to teaching, as I believe every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses of acquiring and remembering information. I believe that identifying these aspects of a student's mindset and using them to "rewire" the way they process information can have a lasting impact on how they perceive learning altogether. Outside of academics, I really enjoy Pokemon, art, and hiking!

I am a woman who firmly believes that every person can learn. I believe that what is hard to get is treasured more. I believe that "try" is a dirty word; you're either moving towards the goal, you're backsliding, or you're dithering.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Arizona State University, along with post-baccalaureate work in Secondary Education, History and Political Science. I also hold a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I am currently gearing toward a Masters in History.I have over twenty-seven years of experience as a classroom teacher, and have also been a tutor during that time. I have taught middle school mathematics, science, psychology as an elective, and social studies, which is my favorite subject. In social studies, I teach history (U.S. or World), Civics and Geography. I also tutor all the subjects mentioned, and have also taught religious studies.I enjoy tutoring most age and age groups, especially fourth grade through high school.I must also mention I work a great deal in developing the writing skills of my students, especially involving the use of the Six Traits of Writing.In tutoring, I work with a student's most effective style of learning. Anything can be learned if it reaches a student through their best learning modality. I know from experience anyone can and does learn. It is simply a matter of finding your own style, and I can help in that area. Oftentimes, clients choose a tutor because they share a similar hobby. In my spare time, I enjoy living history as a reenactor, especially with the American Civil War. I am also an avid reader, focusing on history and short story fiction. I am also a huge Disneyland fan. Finally, I enjoy most competitive sports, including baseball, basketball, football, and ice hockey (which I have played).

Teaching struggling readers is my PASSION! I have spent the last 23 years serving in the public education system; from classroom teacher to administrator and EVERYTHING in between! My passion for teaching reading inspired me to obtain my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction: Reading from Grand Canyon University before achieving a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in 2015. After all these years, my favorite job has always been to work with K-5 kiddos, particularly with those who struggle in reading. I love helping students find success, make gains and be confident readers. All they need is the toolbox, I can give them the tools!

I'm a passionate educator with five years of classroom teaching experience, specializing in literacy and reading instruction. Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping students of all levels develop strong reading skills, improve comprehension, and build confidence in their abilities. My teaching approach is personalized and student-centeredI focus on understanding each learner's unique needs and strengths to make reading both engaging and meaningful. I'm trained in evidence-based literacy programs like LETRS, UFLI, and 95% Group, which allows me to support students in building foundational skills as well as advancing their higher-level reading strategies. I take pride in creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and celebrating their progress.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language from Northern Arizona University. I was a teacher for 13 years in the SUSD school district where I taught grades 2-4. During the summers I worked with talented youth by teaching a pre-algebra course to 4th graders at Arizona State University. Throughout my career I have taught an array of learners and have developed many skills to meet individual needs. Throughout my teaching career to now, I have coached volleyball. I have coached at a variety of levels and age groups ranging from 11yrs-18yrs. I have a great passion for helping students succeed and have the patience and creative skill-set to make that happen. In my free time I enjoy playing volleyball, riding my bicycle with friends, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
