Hi! I am a certified English teacher and Principal in the State of Missouri. I believe that students are under more pressure than ever to succeed in school. However, due to the ever increasing class sizes that some of the best schools are experiencing students are not able to receive the personal attention that some of them need to be at their best. That is why tutoring can be so valuable. I am able to work one on one with a student which allows me to devote all my time to helping them with their particular problems. I am able to help students understand what it is they are being asked to do, assist them in accomplishing it and finally, provide them the ability to recall the information for future use.I look forward to helping you be the best student you can be!
I have studied world religions, ethics, and business for a number of years. In my studies, I have been particularly attuned to the differences and the understanding of culture, survival, ethics, religion, and society between eastern and western dominant paradigms. From a practical standpoint, I have worked with the Kansas City Interfaith Council for several years. Through my contacts with people of different religious perspectives and different national background, I have come to appreciate how some perceived knowledge does not preclude other viewpoints. I would rather say that in most cases various systems of thought complement one another. Openness to other cultures, ideal, religious thinking, and practice allows for expansion and understanding of one’s own system knowledge. While teaching both religion and business, I have attempted to unite ideas from both disciplines to create more understanding as to why and how ideas are influenced by various constituent elements of society. I have taken advantage of any opportunity to have contact with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. By listening and being introduced to different cultural groups, I have been able to interact with and acquire and understanding of different culture from both the ideal and actual aspects of that culture.Education and learning are not accomplished in a vacuum. Learning is often enhanced by its application in real life situations and conditions. To this end, teaching is expanded when it consists of strong theoretical bases for perspective, wide understanding of the scholarly work of a discipline for depth within the field, and good grounding in practical application for constructive use of knowledge. Learning is a reciprocating process between students, teachers, and advancement of knowledge. Teaching may come from students as well as teachers, and each person in the classroom environment should be respected for their own worth as a person, and a rational human.

I am a graduate of Park University, where I received a Biology degree with a minor in Chemistry. I have since gone back to school and am currently studying applied physics at the University of Kansas, where I am also a teaching assistant in the physics department. I have been involved in tutoring since my high school days, where I received the International Baccalaureate Diploma from North Kansas City High School. Tutoring was an important component of the community service aspect of the diploma, and I was able to work with students in the areas of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology. In college, I was also involved in tutoring, working with students in a range of subjects from College Algebra to Calculus in math, and all sorts of science courses, including Genetics, Physics, and Molecular Cell Biology. I tutor a wide range of math and science classes, but my favorites are Algebra, Calculus, and Physics. When working with a student, I have found that showing the student that you are excited and interested in the subject, as well as connecting it to a real world situation or profession makes the atmosphere fun and relaxed. Under those circumstances, learning is easier and the knowledge is more effectively retained. I believe that a strong math and science education lays the foundation for success in any field, as skills such as critical thinking can be broadly applied to all career paths. In my free time, I am an avid concert goer, Sporting Kansas City supporter, reader, and long distance runner.

As an educator deeply committed to fostering a nurturing and effective learning environment, my teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student deserves a teacher who is fully invested in their success. This belief has shaped my approach to teaching students across a broad age spectrum, from kindergartens to middle schoolers, in various capacities from classroom instruction to personalized tutoring. My instructional approach centers on student-focused learning, which I believe is the cornerstone of effective education. This means adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of young learners, fostering a growth mindset, and maintaining high expectations. By actively reflecting on my practice and embracing feedback, I continually refine my strategies to ensure they remain relevant and impactful as pedagogy evolves with new research, technology, and cultural shifts. In tutoring students from kindergartens through middle school, I have learned the importance of empathy, consistency, and socio-emotional skill-building. Young children, especially, need to feel understood and supported as they navigate the foundational stages of their education. I prioritize creating an environment where all students can safely explore and learn, understanding the consequences of their actions in a constructive way that promotes personal and group accountability. Moreover, my tutoring sessions are tailored to harness the innate curiosity of younger students while progressively building their confidence in more complex subjects like mathematics. Using culturally responsive teaching combined with data-driven instruction, I engage students with hands-on activities and manipulatives that make learning tangible and enjoyable. This approach not only supports the district's academic standards but also addresses the unique needs and capabilities of individual students. As I continue to develop professionally, I remain committed to the ideals of equity in education and the relentless pursuit of excellence for myself and my students. The role of an educator extends beyond academic instruction; it is about preparing young minds to be thoughtful, responsible, and active participants in their communities. I am dedicated to living these values every day, ensuring that my students are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with the critical life skills needed for success in the wider world.
