My name is Danielle and I recently moved to Chicago where I have completed my coursework in becoming a full-time teacher and have passed all necessary professional knowledge and subject exams. My certification comes from Rio Salado College in Phoenix, Arizona. While waiting for my teaching license I have utilize this time productively by becoming a substitute teacher. As a substitute teacher, I have gained further experience and knowledge in regards to helping students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Not only did I serve as the instructor when the teacher was absent, I also spent time providing one-on-one support and instruction.Throughout my courses and time substituting, I have learned that as a teacher you need to able to adapt to your student's needs. To help overcome this challenge I utilized my strength and ability to think outside of the box to provide the assistance and instruction necessary for success. With this ability, I have been able to look at the big picture and adapt myself so not to conform to the saying "one size fits all". Instead I have been able to adapt myself and think outside of the box to help those students who may need special assistance or even just additional help. It is this ability that has made me successful, as both a student teacher and substitute teacher, as it allowed me to ensure each student had the understanding of concepts before moving forward.Another challenge that I have noticed throughout my observation that as students it is easy to be overlooked. It is my mission to see that none of my students fall through the cracks and are provided the necessary remediation, distinction, and extension for success. One way I will help achieve that goal is to be the influential individual that I know I am. With this behavior, I will make sure that no student is left behind as we begin our trek up the mountain of education. And to help keep the students' enthusiasm about their education we will celebrate "wins" along the way.I look forward to this experience ahead and serving as a tutor for all future students.

My name is Ms. Messenger. I am currently in school to be a high school math teacher. I have 2 children. My daughter is 4. My son is 8. Some of my hobbies include music, fishing, baking, and arts and crafts. I look forward to helping students succeed in their education.
I am a student at Rio Salado College who is working towards an associates in Astrophysics. I have experience tutoring students at both high school and college levels, mostly through volunteering to help students who were experiencing difficulty in their classes. The subjects I tutor include Algebra I, Algebra II, and basic French. I tutored algebra in high school and I learned how to speak French from the people I interacted with during a ten month student exchange in Belgium. My favorite of these subjects is math and I enjoy tutoring it the most because it is one of the subjects that I find the most easy to explain to other students. I'm passionate about math because I believe it is a subject that anyone can understand, given time and the right information. My teaching style/philosophy is best described as a process of identifying the issues that an individual has with a subject by finding where exactly he/she may have been left behind. After I have found where the student is, I can work towards explaining the material to the point where the student needs to be. I do this by clarifying the simple side of the concepts the student needs to learn and then working on increasing the difficulty. Every student is unique and will require that I explain these concepts differently; if a student learns by working through examples, verbal explanations, or learns through pictures, I can do that. At this phase, I believe patience is a crucial in order to ensure that students understand the material they need to know and at the same time not be overwhelmed by it.Outside of tutoring and college, I enjoy a collection of hobbies. I love playing violin and guitar, gardening, hiking, programming, stargazing, reading, and traveling. Through the last year, I have been outside the U.S. while I was traveling I visited Belgium, France, Spain, England, and Holland. I also enjoy Japanese art, LARP (live action role-play), strategy games, and rock collecting.
I believe in helping others.I am fluent in English and Spanish and have worked as a professional translator for five years.Additionally, I have a background in ESL instruction and love to share what I know.Hope to see you soon!Trevor
I hold a B.S. in Chemistry and Physics from Aquinas College and spent nearly 30 years as an industrial chemist before earning a postbaccalaureate in education and teaching math and science for a decade. I've tutored since college and, for the past four years with Varsity Tutors, I've focused primarily on AP Chemistry. My philosophy is that any subject becomes manageable once the right foundational skills are in place. In sessions, I diagnose missing skills and build them stepbystep through clear examples and targeted practice. For AP Chemistry, I align instruction to common AP question types and equip students with the background knowledge, problemsolving methods, and testtaking strategies needed to earn top scores.
I have been teaching for 24 years and I absolutely love it. Teaching and watching children and teens learn and grow brings me great joy. I believe a solid education is so important and should be done with a solid foundation and knowledge. I am so excited to start helping these children learn, understand and grow in their academics.
