I am a graduate from Rutgers University - New Brunswick where I majored in Economics and minored in Religions. After graduation, I changed course and decided to pursue law school. The difficulty the LSAT posed for me inspired me to give back and help other students along their path to law school.

Throughout my experience working with students, I have witnessed the power of inquiry-based learning firsthand. By encouraging students to ask questions, investigate topics, and think independently, I have seen their engagement and enthusiasm soar. This approach not only deepens their understanding of the subject matter but also develops their problem-solving abilities and instills a lifelong love for learning. During my own education, I was fortunate to experience the benefits of inquiry-based teaching. It allowed me to explore subjects in a meaningful and interactive way, leading to a deeper comprehension and retention of knowledge. This personal experience has fueled my dedication to implementing this teaching style in my own practice. As a tutor, I specialize in various subjects, including mathematics, science, and literature. However, regardless of the subject, I always strive to incorporate inquiry-based methods into my teaching. By posing thought-provoking questions, encouraging experimentation and research, and facilitating discussions, I create an environment where students actively participate in their own learning process.

I am a lawyer with almost 40 years of experience practicing law having been admitted to the Pennsylvania and Federal bar in 1982 after graduating from Rutgers Law School. As a result, I have a background in a wide variety of legal areas, most of which involve representing real people. These areas include: consumer and small business bankruptcy and all matter related to people suffering from debt problems, all types of civil litigation, criminal law (including my internship in law school and Court appointed representation of criminal defendants) Family Law, Court appointed Dependency work, wills, deeds act.; and collections, insurance defense and subrogation, My years of practice have taught me how to communicate not only with the Court and my colleagues, but also to clearly communicate the sometimes complex legal issues to my clients. In addition to learning to speak publicly. I have also learned to write effectively when drafting court documents like Motions and Briefs (some of my reported cases are on my resume).I love being an attorney. especially being able to effectively represent my clients in what is often one of the most difficult times of their lives. It may be good to be the King, but for me, practicing law is more rewarding and my idea of fun. Outside of my work, my interests include history (which was my major at Penn State University) reading, swimming, and following sports and politics.

I was an economics major at Carleton College. Later, I earned an MBA in both Supply Chain Management and Finance. I am very pragmatic in my approach and relating to people is one of my passions. I've traveled through most of this country plus some 17 countries over 4 continents. My intuition is keen since I have become sensitive to how different people may perceive a situation differently. Consistently I find ways to communicate in a simple animated fashion that connects clearly and facilitates inspired learning.During the course of my career, I've done many software implementations that required creating and delivering a lot of disparate information among varying foreign audiences. Implementations require that different functional departments inside of a corporation to be trained to be productive. Assorted but connected new processes must be taught clearly to audiences of every level within the organization. Somehow, I creatively made complex tasks and complicated software easy to understand.I have done tutoring at a couple of local colleges in assorted subjects. Regularly, talk to people who live in other countries and need help with English. To me, it is a joy to meet people and help improve their lives.

I'm an expert SAT tutor.I have over five years experience tutoring this test and over 15 years teaching experience, and I get great results from the index card method.I show my students how to make custom index cards from all of the problems that they've missed on the test. The cards allow them to re-confront the questions which they missed on the practice tests, again and again, until the ideas and understandings that form the solution become integrated into their current skill set.Complete explanations, which I review with them, point by point, are printed on the back, first by me, and then, by imitation, by them. I stress the quality of each of these seemingly obvious steps, because the effectiveness of my method depends upon all of them working together. I insist on a minimum of three problems reviewed in one session and focus on the student adopting the method of short, very frequent review of the material, throughout the day. This technique works! Ambitious students will use this method in whatever they choose to study in the future, so the techniques they learn in my little SAT bootcamp is well worth the money.

As an educator and professional writer, I'm passionate about helping students from all academic backgrounds develop confidence in their verbal skills. I earned my MA in English from Rutgers University, where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and distinctions. I've taught and tutored students in English Composition I and II and remedial writing. I also scored in the 98th percentile on the GRE writing section and the 92nd percentile on the GRE verbal section. As a teacher, I strive to meet the unique needs of each student. While such individualized practice applies to all pedagogies, it is even more important in the area of writing and verbal skills.Effective educational practices are grounded in evidence-based strategies. Nonetheless, teachers must be prepared to meet the unique needs of students, taking into account their abilities, areas of weakness, and personal motivations.Too often, students come away from academic experiences with a diminished belief in their capacity to achieve. Teachers need to be honest with students about their current skill level. However, feedback must be given in a tactful way that recognizes the student's inherent abilities, unique talents, and potential for change. In the classroom, I believe teachers should emphasize a growth mindset. Writers and life-long learners aren't born. They are taught through skill building and practice. Thus, feedback on student writing must be individualized. When students receive one-on-one attention in this way, they can develop confidence in the teacher's dedication to their success, and more importantly, their own potential. Tailored feedback provides an achievable action plan for student improvement.Students can go anywhere for automated, generic information. Increasingly, free, open-access courses from organizations like Coursera provide the same knowledge students get in the classroom. However, students enrolled in college-level courses or tutoring deserve individualized, tailored feedback.I'm excited to work with you!

After graduating from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ with my Master's degree in English, I taught at Williamstown Middle School for two years, and then at Livingston School in New Brunswick, NJ for three years. I worked with sixth through eighth grade students at these schools and learned the value of strong classroom management and differentiated instruction. While successful in my positions, I felt that there was even more that I could learn about being an effective teacher, as I never had the opportunity to student teach. Therefore, when I was offered an opportunity to shift to the New York City charter school system, I jumped at the chance. The three-week training program for Achievement First schools taught me more ways to manage my classroom and differentiate instruction, and also taught me how to create very effective lesson plans, the true value of purposeful assessments, and how to generate those. I even learned how to properly analyze my students' results in order to determine which skills I needed to re-teach and which skills I simply needed to review. When I shifted to Bushwick Ascend Middle School, not only was I able to continue with my learning of how to become an even better teacher, but I was also given the opportunity to be a Grade Team Leader, where I evaluated other teachers' lesson plans, and provided those teachers with feedback about their lesson plans and their actual lessons.Due to personal reasons, I chose to remain closer to home and began working as an Adjunct Professor at local colleges. Working with college students for two years showed me that I truly wanted to be back in the classroom full-time. Therefore, I accepted a position at Columbia High School as a one-year leave replacement within the English department. I taught ninth and tenth grade English, where I focused on writing instruction and assisting the students in preparing for the PARCC exam. While I enjoyed teaching at Columbia High School, I found my place at Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School in Newark, NJ teaching seventh and eighth grade Language Arts and Writing.
