Hello, hello! My name is Korina, and I have 7 years of classroom teaching experience. 1 year in the Philippines, 4 years in California and 2 years in Washington. Although I've spent all 7 years teaching Middle School Math and Science, my license and certification (in the Philippines and in Washington is that of Secondary Mathematics. I also have 4 years of tutoring experience, also in Mathematics, with students ranging from 1st graders to adults working their way to getting their teaching credential. I did not always love Mathematics as student, which may be weird. It all started with my 6th grade Math teacher, so I know first hand the importance of having that trusted adult in learning Math -- someone who, more than being knowledgeable and proficient in Math, is patient and understanding, who believes in you, who challenges and pushes you to be better. I studied at Saint Louis University, where I majored in theatre and minored in creative writing. My background has given me a strong foundation in creativity, communication, and adaptability skills I use to tailor each lesson to the individual learning style of my students. I fully believe that my interest in the field of academic tutoring is born out of my endless pursuit of knowledge, as well as my strong interpersonal communication skills. As an experienced tutor, I have continually enjoyed seeing my students achieve lofty goals under my instruction.I specialize in tutoring biology, chemistry, physics, and economics for high school students. In addition to this, I also tutor students in college level general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, introductory physics, economics and for the MCAT exam. I excelled in undergraduate coursework pertaining to these subjects and have prior experience in assisting pre-professional (pre-medical and pre-nursing) students looking to succeed in their required general science classes. My tutoring methodology is dependent on the establishment of a strong conceptual framework, and subsequent application of theory through practice problems (the best way to master any pure science). I frequently employ the use of problem sets and practice tests to monitor my students' progress.

I am currently a nursing student at St. Louis University. I have worked as a tutor for 3 years in high school tutoring underclassman and grade school students in various subjects. I enjoy helping other's and making sure they understand what is being taught. I work hard and have good grades because I strive to succeed.I understand what it's like to struggle in school and not understand a subject matter right away. When I was younger, I had tutors in math and English. Over the years, I have picked up tips and tricks from prior tutors that may help other's like they helped me.

I am currently an undergraduate student at Saint Louis University studying Neuroscience. I am a part of their Medical Scholars program, an 8 year BS/MD program (if you have any questions regarding my program, I would love to talk about it). As a college student, I have been involved with organizations like the ASBMB and AED that place an emphasis on biology and biochemistry and I am also heavily involved with service organizations across St. Louis and Houston. I am an avid sports fan (do not try to debate me on the Texans or the Rockets) and love to play basketball, tennis, and football. The outdoors have always been a part of my life as an Eagle Scout and backpacker, so I love anything to do with nature and have gone on my fair share of trips across the country. I have taken most AP courses available in the AP curriculum and am pretty familiar with today's high school curriculum, seeing as I am only two years removed from it. I love tutoring subjects in math, chemistry, and biology, all courses I have taken at the college level and done well in. I know these subjects can be imposing at first, but there are always tricks to solving problems and I hope to impart some of the ones I like to use. I like to think I'm a pretty fun guy, so don't be scared to learn from me; I believe that learning should be fun, so I will try my best to ensure that you enjoy learning with me.

I am currently a senior at Saint Louis University and am studying to receive my Bachelors in Science in Biology and my minor in Public Health. During my college experience, I have been able to spend a lot of time volunteering and tutoring. I work as a tutor at the university for subjects in biology, chemistry and spanish. While I tutor in university level subjects, I also volunteer as an after school tutor for refugee students in STL, through Firm Foundations tutoring, so I work with younger students as well. I have always enjoyed tutoring since my high school years as I believe in the importance of spreading knowledge and giving everyone the help they deserve so they can all equally excel. As a biology major, I would have to say it is my favorite subject, however I enjoy spanish and statistics as well. I am looking forward to ACT tutoring as I am quite familiar with the exam and am experienced on ways to significantly improve test scores. Outside of the tough pre-med life, I enjoy sports such as softball, swimming and tennis. I am quite passionate about learning about other cultures. My sophomore year, I was able to study abroad in Spain and immerse myself in the Spanish culture. I have also learned a lot about Mexican and Latin American cultures through classes and have my own Indian culture I enjoy!

I believe that understanding is more important than memorizing, so I strive to teach all of my students in terms of comprehension. I also believe in the importance of patience when working with students, as I feel that in order to master a concept, time must be taken to manipulate various ideals so that the student can successfully answer a related question at any degree of difficulty. I recently graduated at St. Louis University with a BS in both Health Management and Biology. There I was a biology teaching assistant, however I am continuing my education at Cornell University in the Fall to obtain my masters in health administration. I put all of my effort into teaching so I will not stop until you understand the material successfully. I also love meeting new people so I can't wait to meet you all!

I am a graduate of Saint Louis University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Psychology. I also received a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Marquette University in 2013. Since graduation, I have worked as an elementary speech pathologist (SLP) for Milwaukee Public Schools. As a SLP, I have found a profession which combines my desire to make a difference in people's lives with my love of learning and my interest in working with children. I enjoy teaching and learning with students in a different way as a tutor with Varsity Tutors. With my background in communication sciences and disorders and speech pathology, I have a great knowledge base of English, grammar, vocabulary and phonics. I also am very passionate about math. As a child, I struggled in math class, but after receiving tutoring, math became my favorite subject! I use a multi-sensory approach to tutoring by including visuals, drawings and manipulatives in my lessons in order to help my students gain a deeper, more concrete understanding of the subject. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, crafting, reading, and volunteering.

As a dedicated undergraduate student at Saint Louis University - Madrid Campus, pursuing a double major in Psychology and Spanish, I am passionate about becoming a clinical psychologist and fostering a love for learning in my students. With over four years of tutoring experience, I specialize in English (and related subjects such as reading and writing) and Spanish, as I have served as a public and private tutor for ESL students and a Spanish teacher's assistant. I am also comfortable tutoring for lower-level math classes. My approach emphasizes making learning engaging and accessible; I believe that a fun and interactive environment leads to the greatest student success. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, playing soccer, crocheting, and spending quality time with friends and family. The traditional path has never taken me where I needed to go, so as a writer and educator, I've learned to move forward without a mapguided by vision, not permission. I focus on where I'm going, not what's expected. When no clear model exists, I create one. "Advanced literacies" means having the freedom to think, decide, and act on your own terms. We all have the ability to build our own frameworks and write narratives that make full use of our strengths while pushing us to grow. This belief drives my work. It's how I challenge my students to rise, take ownership of their path, and reach the finish line with purpose.

Helping other individuals learn and them grow is always great to see. This is one of the main reasons I chose to be a tutor. Prior to becoming a tutor, I was a Student TA at Saint Louis University for Introduction to Law. Although I am still attending school, my passion to help others has only grown as I've been in college.I'm currently a double major working towards a B.S. in Healthcare Management and Legal Studies. These majors have helped me strengthened my reading and writing skills while allowing me to further my education in political science, business, and math classes. Because of this, I am comfortable in educating others in math subjects, political science, accounting, writing, economics, and public health. I believe every student has a different way of learning meaning that I have various ways of teaching others to provide the most effective strategy to help them learn.Outside of academics, I have a passion for sports, especially basketball, softball, and running, and am interested in photography.
