As a passionate educator with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts - Elementary Education from Southern Adventist University, I have over 2 years of experience in tutoring and classroom settings, specializing in Elementary School English, Math, Reading, Writing, and Phonics. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive and engaging environment where each student feels valued and motivated to learn. I believe in tailoring my approach to meet individual needs, using interactive methods that foster curiosity and critical thinking. Witnessing my students grow in confidence and skill is incredibly rewarding, and I am dedicated to helping them achieve their academic goals. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading and exploring new educational resources to continually enhance my teaching practices.

I love sharing knowledge with students and being like Yoda who helps them be Luke Skywalker, the hero of their story. I am a CPA with an MBA from Tennessee Tech University, earned my CELTA while teaching English in Korea for a total of nine years, and passed the CPA Exam on my first attempt. I enjoy helping students learn and play a small part in helping them achieve their goals. I have experience teaching ESL and enjoy tutoring CPA Exam candidates. I believe that students can be as successful as they choose to be. Do the work and you can succeed! I enjoy a Q&A style lesson that involves the student in active learning, rather than solely giving lectures. Typically, lessons involve using student materials, i.e. CPA Exam prep courses, coaching as needed, and confirming that they got the correct answer, or explaining how to get it. Yes, I can do lectures, but prefer Q&A. Outside of academia I enjoy owning my own CPA firm, spending time with my family, travel, and being active in church.
My name is Nathan Kim, and I am a student at Southern Adventist University who will be applying to medical school in a year.I started tutoring in my senior year of high school, when I was requested to tutor a twelve-year old student with severe ADHD and behavioral problems in math, science, and history.Though I struggled with the process, I felt useful and energized knowing that I had helped another individual, however rudimentary the increase in knowledge/grades were.Through this experience, I went on to work at summer camp for children, tutored at an elementary school, and now am tutoring fellow college students in subjects that apply to my major, such as biology, chemistry, etc.I hope to make an even larger influence through my involvement here on Varsity Tutors and hope you or your student will reap the impact of the culmination of my years of developing and refining my teaching skills.
Tutoring can be a lot of fun for both students and teachers. I enjoy challenging my students, and it is a thrill to see their insights as they solve problems and learn new things.I began teaching swimming lessons when I was 17 years old, and after several years became the manager of the swimming lessons program in Fort Worth, TX. This led me to develop a long-term interest in how people learn, and how learning systems can be efficiently designed to help them succeed at every step along the way.Since then I have gained experience in tutoring a large variety of subjects, including programing, physics, calculus, the SAT, the MCAT, etc.I am good at explaining and breaking things down in multiple ways -- words, diagrams, analogies -- to make concepts clear. There are very few things I cannot explain or articulate.Currently my favorite subjects to tutor include computer programming, mathematics, statistics, and physics.
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Adventist University, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I worked as a research design, statistics, and general psychology tutor while earning this degree. I am currently in year two of a six year program to earn my PhD in Clinical Psychology. I tutor math, statistics, social sciences, and psychology. I enjoy tutoring math and statistics because I like trying to find new ways to help people understand sometimes complicated concepts. I find that things are easiest to learn if they can be applied to everyday kind of experiences, so I like to try and find ways to tie concepts into daily life. While I spend a lot of my time wrapped up in school, particularly in research and statistics, I also work part time as a therapy intern, and in my free time I love to ride bicycles. I am an avid cyclist, and I enjoy working on my small collection of bicycles when I can find the time.
After graduating with a Bachelor's in International Business at Southern Adventist University, I decided to get a master's in Finance at the same school, which I greatly enjoyed. The best thing about helping others with their education is that I get to learn with them. To teach a subject, you must not only be able to understand it, but you also have to have fun with it.My favorite subjects to teach are Languages (Spanish, English, and French). As well as Finance and Business topics. The best way to learn? To dive in and learn as you go! Practicing, practicing, practicing. I am more of a guide rather than a presenter and support all along the way.
