I am a graduate of Stanford University and earned a bachelors in Biology. Since graduation, I have been volunteering my time tutoring with underserved populations throughout California and Pennsylvania. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Mathematics (all branches from Algebra to Calculus) and Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). As a high school student, I vividly remember preparing for the SAT and hope to use the tactics that I learned to help other students who may need improvement! I firmly believe in helping students and adapting to their individual needs and skill sets. In my spare time, I love to watch football and play sports with my friends. I also love playing board games and going on hikes!

I started learning Spanish in middle school and used to try (and mostly fail) to understand the dialogue on Spanish-language soap operas. However, I kept studying and graduated in 2019 from Stanford University with a degree in International Relations. Throughout college, I took Spanish language and cultural classes and was able to study abroad in Santiago, Chile and Madrid, Spain. I have formal tutoring experience with elementary-aged beginning readers and Spanish speaking adults. In tutoring, my goal is to understand a student's goals and have engaging sessions that work with their learning style. Spanish has led me to unique cultural, travel, and job experiences and I hope to help students develop their own relationship with the language. Learning a language is challenging but very rewarding.
I am currently an undergraduate student at Stanford University, and I recently graduated top of my class from Phillips Academy, a prestigious private boarding school in Massachusetts. For the past few years, I have tutored students of all different ages, serving as a peer tutor, faculty-nominated department tutor, and mentor for elementary school students. Although I tutor many different subjects, I am particularly passionate about Writing, Math, Physics, and Economics. My tutees and I always have a lot of fun revising essays, and academic research experience has given me a better appreciation of the other subjects. I am also well-versed in standardized test prep. My teaching philosophy is that no subject or concept is beyond the capabilities of any studentwe must only find the right teaching method. I would characterize my tutoring style as adaptable and empowering. I want to focus on not only solving the given problem or revising an essay, but also developing the skills and thinking process to apply to other assignments. For instance, one of my preferred teaching methods utilizes the Socratic method.
I believe that education is the most effective way to empower an individual to live up to their full potential. In my mind, it truly is the greatest equalizer. As a Stanford graduate, I have experienced firsthand the opportunities that come with a world-class education. As a psychology major, I have spent years learning about the psychological and social barriers to learning and how these barriers can be overcome. As a tutor, I hope to apply the lessons I've learned and share the knowledge I have gained throughout the course of my education. In terms of my experience tutoring, I began tutoring community college students in math and science when I was in high school. At Stanford I continued my work as a private tutor, focusing in particular on high school math and science. In addition, the summer after my sophomore year at Stanford, I worked part-time as a psychology and chemistry tutor for Stanford students taking summer term courses.I look forward to continuing tutoring in the Philadelphia area.
I am a graduate of Dartmouth College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English and minored in Education, and Stanford University, where I earned a Master of Arts in Education with a focus on 8-12th grade English Language Arts. Since graduation, I have been working in a private Catholic school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, teaching English primarily to 9th and 10th graders students. I also teach a course on Creative Writing, which is open to all students and examines how to craft a compelling narrative in any medium, including college essays and fiction. As a learner and an educator, I have always been most passionate about reading and writing because I believe each student should have the tools to critically examine and better the world around them. I firmly believe that every person is a lifelong learner with strengths to build upon and areas to improve in, and I have committed myself to supporting scholars in that learning process.
A writer and screenwriter in the West Village, Jordan has written for Grantland, The Awl, AOL News, and on a 30 for 30 short film.
Intensely curious, I am interested in STEM subjects and the liberal arts. I tutor to help you reach your educational goals and because it's immensely gratifying to see my students succeed.
I'm currently a sophomore at Stanford University, studying Computer Science. In the past, I've attended The Juilliard School's Pre-College program studying the violin and composition, and even before then, I've played the violin for 13 years. I love helping people learn and understand new things, and I like approaching topics from many different perspectives, so tutoring is right up my alley! I feel that I'm the strongest in helping students with algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, music theory, and computer science, and I believe that a balanced approach to learning that incorporates both creativity and technology is paramount. I love seeing the moment when a new topic "clicks" in someone's brain, so I hope I can find a way to make things "click" for you, too!In my spare time, I love to cook and bake. I also enjoy playing tabletop and online games with my friends!
As a dedicated tutor currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Mathematics at Stanford University, I have tutored in subjects such as Algebra, AP Calculus, and SAT Math. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking difficult questions. I recognize that each student has unique learning styles, and I adapt my methods to help them reach their academic goals. I am focused on fostering a love for mathematics and critical thinking in my students, guiding them not only to succeed academically but also to develop confidence in their abilities. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy watching soccer, football, and basketball, which helps me connect with my students on a personal level.
I'm a future medical school student (matriculating fall 2017) and Stanford undergraduate alum with a passion for learning and teaching about the human brain, behavior and body. I'm excited to work with others who are looking to do the same!Another passion of mine is the Spanish language. I studied abroad in South America while in undergrad and have the opportunity to continually practice my skills with my Mexican boyfriend and his family. Hablamos Espaol juntos, no?
With a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Rice University and a PhD in biophysical chemistry from Stanford University, I have passion for science and mathematics that I love to share as a teacher and tutor. I am firmly of the belief that learning a technical subject like chemistry, physics, or math is much like learning a foreign language: listening and reading is much easier than speaking and writing. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of believing that if you come to class and understand what the instructor is saying, you don't need to practice the material. Accordingly, I emphasize the need to practice "speaking" the language on a regular basis and to receive immediate feedback on one's learning. In my free time I enjoy woodworking and playing with Legos with my small children.
As a tutor and an actor, I believe that students learn best when they feel connected to their work. I have been working as a tutor and educator for nearly a decade. After graduating from Stanford University, I worked with students ranging in age from Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade, from basic reading to Calculus BC. Irrespective of age, the focus remains the same: to help students enjoy the work so much, the barely know they're working! I love seeing students find excitement and understanding in a subject that they had previously written off as boring and/or impossible. When not tutoring, I work as a professional actor and theatre teacher in the Chicago Area. I also cook, jog, and stare wistfully at Lake Michigan, pretending to still live in California. I look forward to working with you and bringing out the best parts of the learning experience.
I'm a rising junior at Stanford University majoring in International Relations and minoring in Education, and Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. I am most passionate about history, but I really enjoy math and writing too. I've been working extensively in educational settings for the past two years, working as a middle school TA and after school program academic classroom director/tutor. In my free time, I love having conversations with my friends and students, reading, dancing, listening to music, and hanging out with my younger sisters. My mission is to work my hardest to make learning and tutoring truly fun, so that it doesn't feel like a chore or obligation for anyone. I would love to work with you on SAT preparation, math tutoring, history tutoring, writing tutoring, or any other subject you would like to work on!
I'm just a nerd who still genuinely enjoys sharing my love of learning. I graduated with my BA in psychology from Stanford University, and then I got my JD from Harvard Law School. Throughout my academic journey, I became a better student and a better teacher by the understanding that intelligence comes in many different forms and treating learning as a process that is not always linear and unique to each person. My passion for tutoring others grew deeper through tailoring my methods for teaching based on this in understanding. I have experience in a broad range of subjects, but I am most passionate about research and writing, including essays for standardized testing, admissions statements, or legal briefs; SAT/ACT/LSAT or other standardized test prep; law school admissions essays and any 1L class exam prep; and almost any area of Psychology up through graduate level courses. I strongly believe in the growth mindset and love to see students get away from the idea of fixed intelligence and get excited for their success and confidence on the stuff they struggled on before. I like to spend my spare time enjoying the outdoors with my dogs or on the water, going to pro sports games, live music at concerts and festivals, belting terribly while performing at the karaoke bar, and watching the Food Network to perfect my chef skills to cook for my friends.
I'm a coterminal master's student at Stanford University in California majoring in Computer Science (Biocomputation). Throughout high school and college, I've taken many courses in computer science, the life sciences (biology and chemistry), and math; and I've been through a lot of standardized tests. For computer science in particular, I have a lot of experience writing software in Python and C++ for AI and systems classes, and I'll be interning as a software engineer at Facebook this summer. I got a lot of great tips and mentorship from tutors along the way, and would love to pass along what I know!Outside of academics, I enjoy captaining Stanford's Ultimate Frisbee Team, keeping up with the NBA, serving people at Stanford's Pacific Free Clinic, and searching for nearby boba tea cafes.
I am a graduate of The University of Portland, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, I worked for Nike as a Test and Validation Engineer on their Digital Sport products (FuelBand, SportWatch, Nike+, etc.) for one year before returning to graduate school. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, with a focus in design and manufacturing, and will graduate in the summer of 2015.Though I have never strictly worked as a tutor, I tutored undergraduates as part of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society while at the University of Portland, and this past year was a TA for a statics & solid mechanics class at Stanford, which included holding office hours for students to help with homework and test prep. I have the most experience tutoring lower division engineering classes such as this (physics, statics, strength of materials, mechanics) but also enjoy and am comfortable with a wide array of math subjects from algebra to calculus. I am a very interactive and hands on tutor, and believe a free-flowing dialogue between student and teacher is essential for maximum learning efficiency. I would much rather work through problems with my students to find areas in need of improvement rather than sit back and watch them struggle.Outside of academia, I try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible, including hiking, biking, swimming, camping and skiing in the winter. I enjoy music a lot (both listening and creating) and reading as well, and find current events to be fascinating - though I try not to let them weigh me down, as some of the world's issues can be tough to stomach.
I'm a freshman at Stanford University pursuing a degree in mathematical and computational science. I've been tutoring students from grades 3-12 throughout high school, and I look forward to continue in college. Nothing excites me more than learning something new, and I strive to share my excitement with my tutees. While I can tutor a variety of subjects, I'm most experienced in test prep and STEM subjects. If you or your child needs help with college admission tests or science and math coursework, please let me know!
I am a graduate student in the humanities who is lucky enough to teach, read, and write for a living. I am passionately committed to educational access and helping young people reach their full potential. It has been my privilege to work with dozens of bright and talented students over the years, ranging from fifth grade to university level. I especially enjoy helping students with test prep and am qualified to teach all sections of the SAT and GRE, including math. I would also love to tutor in history, literature, and writing.Currently, I am earning my PhD in early modern European History from Stanford University. I am also a graduate of Princeton University and a former teaching fellow at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
In high school, I was a member of the Shortridge High School Daily Echo newspaper. It was one of the few daily high school newspapers in the country. For three years, I was an editorial columnist on health and wealth topics for the Indianapolis Star. Due to the compelling topics and timeliness of issues, I appeared on local NBC and FOX 59 news segments. I am an author of two Personal Finance books Women and Money and The Value Book and a historical book, Indiana Avenue Life and Musical Journey from 1915 to 2015.I have a B.S. degree in Environmental Science from Stanford University and an MBA degree in Finance from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. I have completed 25 hours towards a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Writing from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.I have worked at Fortune 100 and major pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly and Covidien.Tutoring ExperienceSince high school, I have tutored and mentored students from elementary to graduate school. I enjoy working with young people and helping them achieve a thirst and enthusiasm for learning! The best part of tutoring is to witness "the light bulb turning on" as students improve their skills and confidence. My areas of expertise are Writing, Business Writing, College English, English Grammar and Syntax, Essay Editing, Composition, Middle School Reading, Middle School Reading Comprehension, Middle School Writing, Finance, Personal Finance and Technical Writing.I enjoy reading, writing, exploring science, traveling, watching sports and meeting new people.
I am a graduate of Stanford University, where I received a BS in Cognitive Science and an MS in Computer Science. After graduation, I spent a summer in Palestine, where I taught web development, app development, and entrepreneurship to a cohort of overenthusiastic high school students; now, I've moved halfway across the country from the Bay Area to the Twin Cities. From volunteering with organizations like Twin Cities Rise and The Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute to checking out art institutions like the Walker and Mia, it's been such a wonderful time settling into this new place that I call home.So how can I help? I'm a tutor in Computer Science and Math, and I've worked with students across the middle school, high school, and college levels to strengthen their grasp on the material and boost their confidence in those subjects. I believe that education is so much more than a means to a job or a race to the finish; it's about giving us the direction to learn how to think for ourselves and the challenge of asking ourselves what we should be thinking about. I hope that I'll be able to help steer the classes you're taking and the standardized tests you're studying for away from a path of drudgery and towards a path of curiosity and fulfillment. I look forward to working with you!
I just graduated from Edina High School and will be attending Stanford University in the fall. Although I am unsure exactly what I want to study, I will likely explore Public Policy, Political Science, and Symbolic Systems. I also graduated from the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program (UMTMYP) in 10th grade where I studied up through Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus. With a teacher for a mother, I have been raised appreciating and understanding the value of education. I love tutoring and have been doing it for many years. I started a tutoring program at an inner-city charter school to mentor and teach underserved students ranging from K-12. Additionally, I have worked as an independent tutor for students. I can tutor for a variety of subjects, especially standardized tests and math. As a recent high school graduate, I know the college application and testing process well and can help explain and guide in what often seems overwhelming. I have also been tutored myself, so I know the value of a great tutor and hope to provide that for others. As a tutor, I want to create an environment of learning, excitement, and joy. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis, longboarding, and exploring the beautiful lakes of Minnesota!
I am a Stanford Graduate with a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering. My tutoring expertise lies in GRE test prep, math and science. My academic achievements in these subjects allowed me to earn a full ride scholarship during my undergraduate studies and a graduate study scholarship at Stanford University.I have tutored middle school and high school students in mathematics and science. Through tutoring, I have developed a number of unique teaching styles that tailor to all different types of students. I provide quick tips and tricks to make problem solving more effective. My approach to tutoring is very simple. I first understand a student's goals and objectives, gauge his/her strengths and weakness before I begin tutoring lessons.Beyond teaching the content, I will also impart studying skills and test-taking techniques to help my students perform better on their exams. I personally enjoy making challenging concepts simple, and I am good at helping people find their own learning style. My philosophy is that there's always a way for each person to learn the necessary material to achieve their goals, and it's my job to find the way each student learns best and reinforce understanding through active-learning. Whether you need help on homework, getting ready for exams, or laying a foundation for your future career in math, science or engineering, I am here to help you.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, where I learned all about bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, and attended Stuyvesant High School, where I learned all about homework and sleeping on the train. I'm continuing my learning at Stanford University for a degree in computer science and English. I've been tutoring for three years now, and having recently taken admissions and AP tests, I am happy to impart all the tips and tricks I learned from studying for them myself. For me, tutoring isn't just a way to raise my students' grades or test scores (though that is a big part of tutoring!), but also increase their self-confidence and love of learning. I aim to make my students feel better about themselves and where they are after every tutoring session.
I graduated from Tufts University with a double major in Mathematics and Psychology. Subsequently I earned Masters degrees in Education ( Stanford), Accounting/MBA ( Northeastern) and Finance ( George Washington). I earned my Credential to teach Mathematics and Psychology in California, and taught high school in San Jose. I also taught Math at Tabor Academy and at Avery Coonley School. I left teaching full time and now work for the US Government working on accounting and Finance Systems. I am an expert skier and teach skiing during the winter months. I missed teaching so I currently tutor students in all levels of Math and love it! The joy of helping individual students understand a concept and succeed, where they thought they couldn't, is what keeps me tutoring! I enjoy working with all levels of students, working to understand what is/are the concept(s) keeping each one from reaching their potential. Even though I am a self proscribed math geek, I don't expect my students to love math as much as I do, but I try to impart my enthusiasm and love for math. Let's try and enjoy Math together.
I am a Stanford student from Maryland studying Political Science and Computer Science. I graduated from high school in 2015, where I was active as the captain of my high school sailing team, a section leader in the orchestra, and part of the STEM magnet program Project Lead the Way. I am currently taking some time off from school to be around family here in Massachusetts and while I will be taking a few classes, I have plenty of time and lots of flexibility. I am excited to work with middle and high school students in math, reading and writing, social studies, and computer science. In addition to taking classes and tutoring this fall I will be volunteering in after school programs with low income middle and elementary school students.
Hi!I'm a former Stanford grad, where I majored in Math and History. My expertise is in classroom, small group, and one-on-one instruction in physics of the first year. I have, however, taught at all levels from non-science major courses through the graduate physics curriculum. My education includes a bachelor's degree in physics from Amherst College and a doctorate from Stanford University. During my career I spent time at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, the University of California, San Diego, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the California Institute of Technology, and Brandeis University, where I worked for nearly 40 years. I am a firm believer that students learn in STEM fields only by doing, not by merely listening. Thus the core of any tutoring experience with me is working on problems. The most formative experience a student can have is to work through a problem, explaining each step to the tutor as he or she goes through it. Only by explaining the concepts and skills to someone else can one be sure of his or her own understanding. My goal in any tutoring interaction is to assist the student in gaining the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to attack any conceivable problem set to him or her by a classroom teacher.
I am a Seattle area math tutor in various subjects, including algebra, trigonometry, calculus and SAT Math test preparation. I graduated with a math degree from Stanford University, and am currently pursuing a PhD in history at the University of Washington. While new to Varsity Tutors, I have years of experience as a private tutor, as well as classroom teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant. For me, tutoring is very student-directed. My teaching style emphasizes flexibility and exploring the kind of learning most suitable to each student. My teaching style also emphasizes understanding how to use and apply formulas and mathematical properties in order to ease the process of memorization.
From the moment I first experienced the joy of sharing knowledge, I knew that teaching was my calling. As a tutor, my mission extends beyond simply conveying information; it is about inspiring a love for learning, fostering intellectual curiosity, and empowering students to achieve their fullest potential.
Teaching has been a lifelong passion of mine. What drives me is sharing knowledge while genuinely connecting with others. I discovered my love for tutoring in high school and have been dedicated to it ever since. At Stanford University, I earned a BS in Human Biology and Chemistry while continuing to tutor throughout, advancing to Lead Tutor. After graduation, I spent a year as a Teaching Associate, designing and delivering course content which significantly broadening my pedagogical approach. What sets me apart is my versatility. Having served as both tutor and instructor, I can adapt my teaching style to each student's unique needs, whether that be building up foundational skills or pursuing advanced mastery. I'm now pursuing graduate studies at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, staying engaged with cutting-edge science while maintaining my commitment to education. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

I spend time getting to know the individual needs of my students and then tailor a program of study that best addresses both subject matter gaps and test taking strategies and skills. I develop a rapport with my students often utilizing my quick wit and good humor and this relationship helps to motivate them and elicit their best performance. In addition, I utilize frequent testing and feedback to reinforce their progress. My academic credentials are excellent and include a B.A. in Economics (summa cum laude) and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. With regard to my standardized tests, I took the GMAT test in 1983 and scored in the top two percent.
Learning is a lifetime journey - and you're never too old to embark on a new chapter. Take up painting for fun, a martial art, read a book in a subject you never thought you might be interested. Above all, remember to keep yourself exploring new and different latitudes.
I recently left my post as a graduate student and researcher at Stanford University to pursue a career in medicine. My educational journey has been a long one, but I've always loved learning and that love has kept me in school (whether for better or worse :P) for more years than I can count. Though I don't plan on being a student forever, the time that I've spent preparing for college, graduate school, and now medical school has reminded me of how enabling a strong academic record can be.I've been tutoring since I was in high school and have worked with students at every level of education. I specialize in teaching from a very fundamental perspective and in building concepts from the ground up but also enjoy helping students to "just get done" with their homework. Though I'm particularly fond of math and science, I can provide assistance in almost any subject (from Latin to world geography to art history), and can also help in preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and MCAT.Above all though, my approach to tutoring is simply about having fun and inspiring students to do their best. Assignments and tests are really just chances for students to demonstrate how much they already know, and allowing each student to shine at his or her brightest is what tutoring is all about.
I am a graduate from Stanford University. I received my Bachelor's in Economics there and continued to receive a certificate in Full Stack Web Development from the University of Texas Austin. I have tutored intermittently, primarily teaching test prep; however, I have at different points taught most everything. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding.I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with you.
Hello all! I'm Rob, a 2015 Stanford Graduate and full-time writer living in Atlanta, Georgia. I have four years of experience tutoring and am excited to work with any students on SAT test prep, as well as any college or high school essay writing.
