I have experience teaching K-8, high school and college-age math and science. This includes Algebra 1 and 2, Earth, Physical (chem) and Life Science, Genetics, Nutrition, Biology, Microbiology and more. I have also tutored students preparing for college and graduate preparatory exams. I have spent the past year lecturing college Microbiology and the previous 2 years teaching math and science at the middle school level; last summer I worked at a Pre-K/daycare center. I have tutored countless biological subjects in college and graduate school. I received my B.S. in Environmental Biology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in New York and my M.S. in Environmental Systems (Engineering) from The University of California- Merced. I tutor all ages and sub-topics within the realm of science, as well as middle school math. I have experience working with students of varying abilities and I'm skilled at assessing needs, deficiencies, and meeting students where they're at. Being in academia for the majority of my life, I know what concepts are important for students to understand not only for academic success, but for genuine understanding of subject matter and future use.
I think education is one of the greatest actions we can take to improve our societies. I am a natural born teacher and was frequently the individual my peers turned to when struggling with classroom material. I have always found joy when a student reaches the 'aha' moment of understanding something they struggle with.I received my BS in Environmental Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where I tutored General Chemistry and was a TA for Dendrology. In addition, I was always a year ahead in my math in high school, taking the honors classes and I also received a 5 on my AP Calculus AB exam.I mainly tutor Math and Science, including Algebra and Biology. There are two main components to my tutoring style that help students understand and remember material:1. I try to break down concepts and transform them into something more relatable to the student. By replacing unfamiliar jargon with familiar subjects, I find it easiest to understand more difficult concepts or processes.2. Practice! Nothing beats the tried and true repetition. This helps fine tune procedures and sheds light on areas students struggle with, allowing me to reiterate or re-explain tougher material.In addition, I love to cook, dance, practice yoga, and dabble in nature photography!

I am a graduate of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (B.S. Environmental Science) and Texas A&M University (M.Ed. Science Curriculum and Instruction). Since graduating, I have dedicated my life to helping students of all ages understand the natural world around them better by teaching science and have felt a need to serve in public education (teacher and HS principal). I have worked with all age levels in public education, but feel the strongest connection to high school. I understand the importance of graduating high school and know how to get students to the finish line.I am passionate about Biology and teaching the subject I love in high school right now is awesome!
