I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, then later entered New York University as a PhD candidate. I am a Philadelphia native and personally enjoy discussing my subjects. I have been teaching or tutoring in one form or another since my senior year of high school, and I plan to one day get a Master's degree in teaching science. My strongest subject is Chemistry, and I pride myself in knowing and sharing why things work the way they do. I consider Bill Nye one of my idols and wish to spark the same kind of passion for science in others that people like him sparked in me. When I am not working on something, I like to keep my mind sharp with puzzles and video games.

Teaching math is in my blood. I taught at the elementary and middle schools and most recently, until COVID changed everything, I was employed as a math intervention teacher at a local elementary school, helping small groups of students from grades 1 through 5 who were struggling with math. My focus is to teach concepts by helping youngsters understand why they are doing what they are doing, rather than teaching them by rote.

I have an MBA from Temple University with a focus on Strategy. My Bachelor's Degree is from Chiba University with a major in Electronics Engineering. I have a deep appreciation of theoretical concepts and their practical applications that is why I was able to quickly apply these two bodies of knowledge to real life situations in various industries. Furthermore, over the years I was also able to mentor individuals from different backgrounds and ages; i.e. classmates, referrals and colleagues helping them achieve their objectives. I always found it rewarding to see faces shine during Aha moments of understanding and eventually see many of them improve their scores/performance.With regards to learning, I believe there are 3 keys: practice, practice and more practice! In other words, my message to you is be not afraid. Any seemingly complex knowledge can be learned with sufficient understanding and review. I believe that any student can succeed in their math classes with the right dedication and attitude. Over my years as a student, I have worked with others in helping them to not only understand concepts in math classes, but to be enthusiastic about their work.I am currently a sophomore at Temple University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. My ultimate goal in my career path is improving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of machinery. I recently graduated from Temple University, in Philadelphia with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. I am applying to medical school this year to pursue my dream of becoming a physician. One of the reasons I am drawn to medicine is the communication to patients and teaching them about diseases. I entered tutoring because of my passion to teach and mentor others. At Temple, I was a teaching assistant for organic chemistry, which was my favorite subject in college because of how applicable it was to medicine. As a TA, I developed lesson plans and met with students one-on-one to guide them through the challenges they had in the course. I continued to tutor in organic chemistry along with general chemistry, algebra and biology at Resnick Athletic Center. Through this job I learned to work alongside students with hectic schedules and how to accommodate for their practices.

Hello students and families, my name is Tarek. I attended Temple University where I majored in biology and graduated #1 in my class with distinction in my major. I am a big fan of science simply because science is discovery and I have a deep love for novelty and adventure. I've been working with students all my life, first as a peer mentor and later on as a formal tutor/mentor. I have had great success with my students over the years and continue to keep close relations with many of my former students. Learning is a lifelong task so I seek to keep my tutoring relationships long term. Currently I am taking time off from school in order to pursue other life goals outside of the classroom. However, with that being said, I am currently in the process of applying to Medical School so that I may begin working towards my Doctorate in Medicine in the Fall of 2014.When working with students, I try to approach problems from various angles as often science has parallels in other fields. In addition, we all occupy the same world and therefore have some degree of intuition as to how things should work. I like to draw on that intuition to help students conceptualize various topics.I live to work and therefore give 110% in everything I do. I believe that we can truly get to know ourselves only by pushing ourselves beyond our limits. I make myself available 24/7 to my students and to their families. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or call or stop me in the street if you recognize me. I look forward to meeting my future students and their families and doing strong work towards whatever goals students may have. Thanks.

To start, I am a mom and I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy biking (bicycles), cooking new meals, scrap booking and going out to lunch or dinner with my friends. I also advocate for children who are not receiving the proper services in the school system. I am passionate about children receiving what they need to be successful from the school system. Academically, I have earned three master degrees over the years. One is in business and the other two are in the field of psychology; School Psychology and Educational Psychology. I have spent a number of years working in the public school system as a school psychologist. I thoroughly enjoy working with children to help them achieve a level of success with their academics. I like to use a multi-model approach to tutoring which includes your typical paper and pencil work, computer based learning tools, hands on strategies and discussion based learning. I believe for a student to remain engaged and active in their own learning they have to enjoy it to some degree. The teaching has to be interesting, engaging and have some level of fun tied to it. The teacher/tutor needs to know their student(s) and what their learning styles are in order to create the most effective strategies. I believe a reward system is very helpful for students who have a very low level of motivation to do their school work. It can be a very simple system which does not require spending lots of money, if any. I thoroughly enjoy working with children with special needs and various learning disabilities. My background is in the field of special education and I am well versed on a variety of interventions that prove successful with students. I have worked with students at all levels and have learned that a one's confidence level plays a large part in their success. When one feels confident about themselves and their ability to learn the material they seem to progress a bit quicker than those who struggle with self-confidence. I will help to build your child's self-confidence as they learn. It can be a fun experience and something your child looks forward to instead of dreading doing their school work. I look forward to working with you and your student(s).

In 2011 I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelors of Science in the field of Neuroscience. As an undergraduate, I became really active in research, more specifically; I started investigating the effects nicotine has on learning and memory. By the time I graduated from Temple I had helped publish two peer reviewed journal articles. Both articles were published in the journal of Behavioral Neuroscience. Upon graduation, I was given the opportunity to teach classes on the research process and research ethics to undergraduate students. I also held workshops for these students on how to write a proper resume and personal statement for graduate school. This was only a six-week position but in that time my students conducted research in a laboratory on campus and wrote up their findings in a scientific research paper. At the end of the summer they presented their research at a conference in Atlanta, Georgia. I found it very rewarding to help my students go through this process in such a short period of time. I moved to Portland in 2012 because I was admitted into the Behavioral Neuroscience PhD Program at Oregon Health & Science University. After a year in this program, I realized that I missed working with and mentoring students and I decided to leave the program and pursue a Masters in Academic Advising from Kansas State University. I am currently a few months away from completing my masters degree and I am still living in Portland, Oregon (my degree is being completed online). I am currently working as a classroom assistant for a blind student at Portland State University. I help this student in the classroom and I tutor him outside of the classroom as well. I really enjoy working for the disability resource center and am very passionate about helping ALL students succeed in their academic endeavors. I believe that students all learn differently and what really helps one student learn a concept may confuse a different student. As a tutor, I try to assess how my students learn best and work off of their learning style. I also believe in working off of students' strengths. For instance, if a student struggles with writing argumentative essays, I will start off by giving him or her an essay about a topic they are really passionate about. This way they can see that they can actually like the writing process. Once we establish that they can actually do the task I will ask them to write about something that they are not as familiar with or something that does not interest them as much. I think it is really important to not treat all students the same when it comes to teaching because everyone thinks differently! I tutor a wide assortment of subjects: Elementary/Middle school level math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, College level Statistics, Middle School/High School/College level English, college writing, ESL Writing/Grammar, Neuroscience/Psychology, and High School and Middle School science. I really enjoy teaching students about Psychology and the brain because I personally find it to be fascinating! I also love to help students with writing because I find it rewarding to see their progression over time. It makes me really happy when I see students' developing more complex arguments after just a few tutoring sessions. As far as my hobbies go, I am really interested in reading, writing, bowling, miniature golf, swimming and going to professional sporting events!

I received a Bachelors of Arts in Biology and a minor in Public Health from Temple University in 2010. In May of this year, I received a Masters Degree in Biological Sciences from Drexel University. During my time at Drexel University, I worked as a teaching assistant for a graduate level Anatomy course for a year. This included assisting students with cadaver dissections in gross lab, and tutoring students for the didactic portion of the course. Anatomy is not only my favorite course to tutor in, but also my favorite subject in biology. I find I never get bored teaching Anatomy, because even though we all have similar basic anatomical structures, no two bodies are alike. Although I am very passionate about learning, I make sure all my students have fun. During a typical tutoring session, I try to incorporate videos, textbooks, and models to help the student stay engaged. I make my sessions interactive in hopes of creating an environment where students can learn the material in a style that is most effective for them. In addition to Anatomy, I also tutor Physiology, Biology, General Chemistry, Physics, and elementary math. When I am not working as a tutor I love to travel, play music, and spend time with my friends.
