I am a current undergraduate student at Temple University majoring in Mathematical Economics and minoring in Finance. I have over a year of professional tutoring experience, and I am certified to tutor a wide range of subjects in mathematics, economics, and test prep.

I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, then later entered New York University as a PhD candidate. I am a Philadelphia native and personally enjoy discussing my subjects. I have been teaching or tutoring in one form or another since my senior year of high school, and I plan to one day get a Master's degree in teaching science. My strongest subject is Chemistry, and I pride myself in knowing and sharing why things work the way they do. I consider Bill Nye one of my idols and wish to spark the same kind of passion for science in others that people like him sparked in me. For over a decade I have taught college students in a variety of subjects including writing and rhetoric, reading comprehension, public speaking, interpersonal and gender communication, as well as both academic and business and professional writing. My pedagogy is rooted in the active learning model where students are encouraged to engage the material through practical activities, as well as through discussion. It's important to me that my students feel trusted and trusting, and that all of our work takes place in a supportive manner that builds self esteem, while also challenging the students to achieve their goals.

Teaching math is in my blood. I taught at the elementary and middle schools and most recently, until COVID changed everything, I was employed as a math intervention teacher at a local elementary school, helping small groups of students from grades 1 through 5 who were struggling with math. My focus is to teach concepts by helping youngsters understand why they are doing what they are doing, rather than teaching them by rote.

I received my BA from Temple University with a major in Philosophy and my long term career goal is to obtain a PhD in Philosophy so that I can teach at the collegiate level. I was the Director of Education at the Curio Theatre Company for a number of years, and I now work there part time as a theatre teacher. In 2011 I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelors of Science in the field of Neuroscience. As an undergraduate, I became really active in research, more specifically; I started investigating the effects nicotine has on learning and memory. By the time I graduated from Temple I had helped publish two peer reviewed journal articles. Both articles were published in the journal of Behavioral Neuroscience. Upon graduation, I was given the opportunity to teach classes on the research process and research ethics to undergraduate students. I also held workshops for these students on how to write a proper resume and personal statement for graduate school. This was only a six-week position but in that time my students conducted research in a laboratory on campus and wrote up their findings in a scientific research paper. At the end of the summer they presented their research at a conference in Atlanta, Georgia. I found it very rewarding to help my students go through this process in such a short period of time. I moved to Portland in 2012 because I was admitted into the Behavioral Neuroscience PhD Program at Oregon Health & Science University. After a year in this program, I realized that I missed working with and mentoring students and I decided to leave the program and pursue a Masters in Academic Advising from Kansas State University. I am currently a few months away from completing my masters degree and I am still living in Portland, Oregon (my degree is being completed online). I am currently working as a classroom assistant for a blind student at Portland State University. I help this student in the classroom and I tutor him outside of the classroom as well. I really enjoy working for the disability resource center and am very passionate about helping ALL students succeed in their academic endeavors. I believe that students all learn differently and what really helps one student learn a concept may confuse a different student. As a tutor, I try to assess how my students learn best and work off of their learning style. I also believe in working off of students' strengths. For instance, if a student struggles with writing argumentative essays, I will start off by giving him or her an essay about a topic they are really passionate about. This way they can see that they can actually like the writing process. Once we establish that they can actually do the task I will ask them to write about something that they are not as familiar with or something that does not interest them as much. I think it is really important to not treat all students the same when it comes to teaching because everyone thinks differently! Anatomy is not only my favorite course to tutor in, but also my favorite subject in biology. I find I never get bored teaching Anatomy, because even though we all have similar basic anatomical structures, no two bodies are alike. Although I am very passionate about learning, I make sure all my students have fun. During a typical tutoring session, I try to incorporate videos, textbooks, and models to help the student stay engaged.
