My name is Sharon, and I have been an educator for over fifteen years. I am passionate about education. I enjoy using innovative techniques to incorporate skills that will be useful to my students. My goal is to enhance each student's learning and help them rise to a higher level. Some of my hobbies are cooking (I'm a foodie), reading, and going on nice walks or scenic drives.

I am a graduate of the University of Florida and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law Texas Southern University. As an undergraduate, I majored in History, focusing on African History, and in law school, I focused on legal writing and analysis.I value the importance of good quality education as I'm a living testimony of how it can open doors of incredible opportunity in life.Since graduation, I have worked as a legal professional covering multiple areas of law and as a public-school teacher. I decided to make the unusual transition from law to teaching because I felt called to make more of a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Sure enough, I discovered my gift and passion in education as I inspired and empowered students in the classroomencouraging them to become the best they could be despite their shortcomings in the past.My love for teaching revealed a whole new world and helped me to realize that I had always been an influential teacher in one form or another. For example, in high school, I commonly taught and tutored my peers who had a tough time digesting the information as delivered by the teacher. I discovered that I had a particular ability to make complicated concepts relatable and, therefore, easier to understand.I believe that a real teacher (one called to teach) fundamentally can teach anything. Therefore, I teach and tutor a wide range of subjects. However, I especially enjoy History, English, and the Social Sciences. Also, my legal education has significantly assisted in my ability to teach, among other types, persuasive writing, critical thinking, and reading comprehension.

I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential because I enjoy helping people and I love to teach. I received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Texas Southern University. I have helped people in over 30 states pass their MPJE and NAPLEX board exams. I like to work on content, study strategies, test taking strategies and how to read and understand questions (especially important for the MPJE). I have a conversational style and am very easy to get along with and can tailor our sessions for what you need.
Every student can learn given the correct set of circumstances!
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and graduate of Baylor University (MSW) and Texas Southern University (BSW). I received my Master's in Social Work with a specialization in physical and mental health and a concentration in Immigration Policy. Since graduation, I have worked with the following populations: Immigrant and refugee families, children and adolescents in school and hospital settings, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and adults in an acute psychiatric setting.I first began tutoring during my Master's (MSW) program at Baylor University. Nearing the end of the last semester, I decided to start an LMSW study group to support my fellow colleagues to better prepare ourselves for the LMSW exam. Some of the topics discussed in tutoring were focused on social work theories, individuals, couples, families, organizations, and communities. I provided insight on abuse and neglect, ethics, human behavior, intervention strategies with clients, and much more. Through this experience, I extended my tutoring group to several others who were interested... Many of which have become licensed like me! This motivated me to share my style of tutoring with any MSW interested in passing the LMSW exam.Outside of tutoring, I enjoy cooking, swimming, hiking, and walking my dogs! I am looking forward to working alongside you and helping achieve your ultimate goal of passing the LMSW exam!

The best approach to learning is longevity and consistency, and that's what I try to teach, along with simplifying concepts in fun, interactive, and intuitive ways!
In the winter of 2004, I had the pleasure of earning my first degree from Texas Southern University. I received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. From there I entered the classroom and began my teaching career. I began working with at risk students at an alternative school for behavioral concerns. I noticed that many of the students there were smart but had behavioral characteristics that hindered their learning process. I started as a teacher aide but enjoyed it so much that I decided to become certified. I chose to receive my certification in grades 4-8 in all content areas. My personal belief is that these are those most critical times of a students educational career. My desire to want to become a counselor blossomed in those first four years. I made the decision in 2008 to work towards a Masters' degree in School Counseling. I attended University of Houston-Clear Lake and obtained my degree in 2012. During the road to my degrees, I had the pleasure of teaching middle school students in all content areas. Now that I have been a school counselor for the past fours years I have come to miss the classroom environment. There is so much joy in watching students learn something new and the excitement they present. The primary subjects that I tutor are English & Language Arts and middle school level Math. Essay writing would probably be considered my favorite subject since I consider myself a writer as well. Many students struggle with the subject because they are not sure what to say. My advice to students is always to follow your knowledge of the topic and let your mind flow freely. When working with students I try to get to know them as an individual so that learning can be tailored to their needs. There are no two brains that think alike and therefore should be taught using different methods at times. One of the largest components that becomes a hurdle in student learning is study skills or lack thereof. Before I start working with a student I always investigate their studying style. Based on the method they utilize I do my best to tweak the needed changes to maximize student learning. Whenever my time is not devoted to educating I love to listen to music and write poetry. I try to be a student of all genres of music because I believe songs tell the story of a person. My favorite sports are basketball and boxing although I find myself drawn to anything that has a competitive nature.
I began my academic journey at community college where I identified how important small class sizes and individualized attention in math and science was to my success in college. I then transferred to a large university in Southern California where I was challenged by large class sizes and no academic support. It was during that time that I had to seek out outside resources to pass my courses. Over the course of my education I had the experience of taking education courses as well as earning a Bachelor's degree in chemistry. Along side my chemistry knowledge, traveling and studying abroad in England and West Africa, I am most certain I want to become a professor in chemistry and train and develop the next generation of scientist that is relate-able and understanding for all backgrounds.
I graduated from Prairie View A &M University with a Master of Education with a focus on Guidance and Counseling. Received a Bachelor of Science from Texas Southern University in Education with a concentration in Psychology. I have worked as a teacher, counselor, and program support specialist in Public Schools since 1977. Holds certification as English as a Second Language Instructor. Teaching is my passion. I love to support, motivate and empower students to become successful and reach their academic potential. Exploring reading through the eyes of the writer has encouraged me to become an avid reader. Writing allows me to express what is lying dormant in the soul awaiting for the moment to be released through pencil and paper. I am a published author and wrote my first book on Bullying.
I, Faith Otieno received my Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Southern University in May 2012. I am currently pursuing a masters program in Business Administration at Texas Southern University. During my graduate school year, I held several positions as a tutor, teacher assistant, and mentor to students. I enjoy tutoring business courses especially accounting, finance and economics. My experience as a tutor has enabled me to assist students in understanding difficult concepts, and this has normally resulted in a positive feedback. I have a passion to assist people in achieving academic goals and objectives. I do believe that knowledge is a powerful asset, and it can be attained through excellence in academics! Moreover, I can also tutor mathematics and English subjects. My teaching philosophy is to explain the difficult concept, and illustrate using an example for the student. Moreover, I do urge students to develop a study timetable that would enable them to review class materials in advance of the class time.My interests outside of academia include engaging in outdoor activities (rock climbing, kayaking) , going to the movies (comedy/action/thriller), visiting scenery attractions, travelling to new places, following a few television series, and reading inspirational books.
What makes me passionate about tutoring are the priceless "ah-ha" moments when a student, who once thought learning math was hopeless, realizes that anything is possible with a little concentration. Although content mastery is very important, there is nothing quite like the positive reinforcement of confidence building when trying to conquer a difficult task. I encourage my students to celebrate the small wins and use the momentum to steam roll the next obstacle. My goal is to remind my client that he/she can conquer anything with the right mindset, and, through the application of mathematics, we shift the mindset from doubtful to unstoppable.
