The most important lesson my parents imparted in me was to never stop looking for opportunities to learn. I hold a Masters in Visual Arts from Auckland University of Technology, a Masters of Sciences in Chinese Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and a Bachelor of the Arts with a double major focus in Chinese Studies and Human Development from the Evergreen State University. Although I am a staunch believer in lifelong learning, I always aim to impart in my students the importance of learning as a vehicle for enriching both themselves and those around them: rather than secluding in the proverbial ivory tower, students should be empowered to be the rising tide that lifts all boats with them. I specialize in teaching English literature, ESL, world and US history, drawing and painting, art history, standardized test prep, and effective crafting of personal statements for college applications.
I am an experienced and passionate educator and instructional leader with over 11 years of teaching experience in international schools across the United States, China, and Mexico. As a certified English teacher and current department leader, I bring deep expertise in IB (MYP), English language learning, and standards-based curriculum design. I am known for creating structured, purposeful lessons that help students build lasting skills in writing, reading, and critical thinking. My approach focuses on developing confident, independent learners who can succeed across subjects and academic challenges. I hold a Washington State teaching license with endorsements in teaching English language learners and Secondary English language and literature. I specialize in teaching conversational English, academic English, presentation skills, formal essay writing, creative writing, and close reading skills at all levels. I offer a professional, supportive, and highly personalized learning experience, grounded in both proven teaching practices and a genuine commitment to student growth.
I have always been passionate about learning, teaching, and exploring the limitless possibilities of knowledge. Over the past 14 years, I have had the privilege of teaching in international schools, where I have focused on the IBDP curriculum, particularly within English and visual arts. This global experience has deepened my understanding of how education can transcend boundaries, cultures, and subjects, allowing students to make meaningful connections across diverse areas of study. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about guiding students to discover how learning can be applied in various real-world contexts. I thrive on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression, whether through analyzing literature or crafting visual stories. As a tutor, I look forward to continuing this journey by helping students unlock their potential, find their authentic voice, and apply their learning to create impactful, thoughtful work.
I have written professionally for almost 50 years. I have professional experience in every kind of non-fiction writing: essays, reviews, interviews, copy writing, publicity & PR and editing.
I grew up in Wisconsin and have travelled to Australia, Spain, and Hawaii for educational purposes related to aquatic science. I love learning and cherish these experiences. My educational background consists of a BA in Psychology with a Biological Science minor, a BS in Biology with an Emphasis on Marine Biology and Freshwater Ecology, and a Master of Environmental Studies. I have worked as a technician within the fish science unit at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, a community garden technician for the Nisqually Indian tribe, a cook for a homeless housing support non-profit, and for other governmental and non-profit community and environmental groups. Since 1993 I have been enamored by cetaceans. An internship in Washington State led to my master's thesis investigating odontocete aging techniques and fisheries interactions specific to Hawaiian rough-toothed dolphins. I would say some of my passions are protecting the environment, being outdoors, and exploring new places. I believe in teamwork and enjoy seeing or being a part of another person's success as it attributes to healthy outcomes.

After earning my Bachelor's of Arts/Bachelor's of Science in cellular and molecular biology from the Evergreen State College in 2011, I trained newly hired medical scribes across various specialties, covering topics such as medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. Following my Master's in the Art of Medical Sciences from Heritage University, I am eager to continue teaching and helping students excel in general biological sciences, including anatomy & physiology and AP biology. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and explore complex concepts, using relatable examples and interactive discussions to make challenging material accessible. I am motivated by seeing my students grow and gain confidence in mastering new skills. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading about life sciences advancements and exploring the outdoors, which often inspires my teaching approach.
Hey! My name is Ellis, I majored in Computer Science at Evergreen State College. Before CS I was a math major and tutored math privately. I absolutely love helping other people to achieve a clear, intuitive understanding of quantitative subjects. It's all too common for folks to struggle with math and even stress out about it. I hope to help more students to realize that math isn't scary. The most important thing is that we take the pressure off. The primary goal of the tutor should be to make the subject approachable and comprehensible. Once we unlock your intuitive quantitative skills you will find things like math and physics are much simpler than you thought!
I am a PhD candidate in Art History working hard to finish my dissertation! I'm originally from the PNW, but I've spent the last 8 years living in New York. Experiencing different worldviews is very important to me. I've lived abroad in France and love to travel and explore new spaces and ideas. I'm a creative visual thinker and respect that everyone is different in their learning processes.
My name is Akira. I'm in my early twenties, and I have just recently graduated college with my bachelorette degree in Creative Writing and Indigenous Studies. For as long as I can remember, learning has been a passion of mine. I would sit and read while others frolicked around because expanding my mind was vital to me. This has not changed over the years. In fact, my passion for education and teaching has only grown stronger. I would like to share what I know and help others understand not only their school subjects, but the world around them.
Hello!I've been working with kids and teens since I was a teen myself. Beginning with summers spent at a remote wilderness camp, overseeing a rambunctious cabin and leading extensive expeditions, and leading into my study of education, writing, communication and social work in college (alongside theatre, dance and music), I've continually found opportunities to involve myself in teaching and counseling.I started The Writer's Workshop, a tutoring program for young writers in the community surrounding Millikin University, a housing project in Ecuador for displaced mothers and children, and a freelance business as a casting director specializing in kids and on-set performance coaching.I tutored at Bread & Roses Advocacy Center in college, was the Spanish teacher for the afterschool K-6th A.C.E. program (Associates in Cultural Exchange), created and edited material for the online education company Apex Learning, ran an afterschool arts program at Sayre Beacon High School, and instructed youth skiing at the Canyons Resort (now Park City Mountain). From there, I went on to coach debate teams and judge regional tournaments with the Western Bay Forensics League, guest lecture in the arts with various universities, and am now intermittently teaching and tutoring in Manhattan and Brooklyn with Behind The Book.Outside of teaching and performing, I write everyday, have a mentor at The New York Times, am entrenched in the professional published poets circle, advise and edit scripts for screenwriters, and absolutely love helping others develop their voice, style, verbage and language intuition.I am a quick and informative editor when it comes to tightening a piece, or rather embellishing creative writing to include further imagery and voice. And as for said voice, I'm an actor and host who has been public speaking all my life. I'd love to help bring comfort and joy to the experience of speaking in front of others in any capacity.Outside the necessary concepts and mechanics guidance, I believe in creating an engaging environment in which my students can reach for conclusions themselves; expansive creativity being the goal.Let's have fun!
Last year I completed my Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on TESOL, Online Teaching and Leadership Studies from Southern Utah University. Now that I am finished with my degree, I'm very excited to start my career in ESL instruction. Outside of my training in TESOL, my background in communication has prepared me with skills and strategies that foster a supportive learning environment. I believe the best way to help students is by adapting materials and teaching methods to match their language goals. I strive to create engaging lessons for my students that meet them at their current level. From my own experience learning Portuguese, I know that learning a language can be difficult and frustrating, but also very intellectually fulfilling. Helping students master the English language brings me great joy and I love to see my students learn and grow. If you are a native Portuguese speaker interested in learning English, I can help you!
My name is Rafael Ladmer-Price, and I aim to be a friendly, patient, and adaptable tutor with experience teaching English, reading, math, science, and web development to students of many ages and skill levels. Through my work as a classroom teacher and long-term substitute with Jefferson County Public Schools, I learned how to break down complex ideas into clear, approachable lessons while supporting students with different learning styles. I have a strong academic background in mathematics, including algebra through calculus, and in the sciences, supported by a Bachelor of Arts and years of tutoring experience that began as early as middle school when I was teaching my little sister with dyslexia how to overcome her learning disability and find the joy of reading. Alongside my teaching background, I am a frontend developer who builds real-world projects using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which allows me to teach web development in a hands-on and practical way. I focus on building understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills. My goal is to work with you to create a supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and making progress!
