During college, I worked as a tutor with a tutoring company similar to Varsity Tutors where I taught college/high school/middle school Spanish, Chemistry, English, Biology, and Math. I also worked as an English as a Second Language volunteer instructor for 3 years during college and was an English Teaching Assistant at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia.I have experience working with adults and youth, alike, and my teaching style is to tailor my tutoring sessions to my students' unique learning styles. I went to school at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester where I received my bachelor's degree in music composition. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Brain Behavior & Cognitive Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. During my undergraduate years I studied Spanish and Portuguese, as well as the cognitive mechanisms by which we learn languages such as Spanish and Portuguese. I was trained as a total immersion language instructor by the Ann Arbor Language Partnership and taught Communicative Spanish classes in the Ann Arbor Public School System for two years. I left Michigan for Nicaragua to work with a local nonprofit where I advocated for improved access to education in disenfranchised communities, managed an international volunteer program, and taught English as a Foreign Language to middle and high school students. I'm Solange - a recent graduate from Harvard where I studied Sociology & Women's Studies. I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. I am an aspiring applied mathematician, with particular interest in image processing and climate science.
