I am a graduate of both Trinity University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Latin, and Brandeis University, where I received my Master of Arts in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. Between schools and since, I have tried to find personal time to continuing my studies and keeping my skills fresh by translating new works. I have worked with Shelby County Schools as a classroom teacher of Etymology but have found that I thrive much better when working one-on-one with students. I tutor Latin at all levels, with the hope that my students, regardless of their starting skill level, can learn to see the beauty and nuance of the language they are studying. I believe in education as a tool for personal enrichment, and especially the study of foreign languages as a way to understand different ways on thinking and talking about a subject as a means of deeper understanding of that subject. In my spare time, I enjoying reading, learning more about languages (even those I will likely never learn to speak), and cooking.

I am a high school computer science teacher so I understand how to explain computer science in an easy-to-understand way. I look forward to working with you!
For over 10 years, I've helped students who feel stuck or overwhelmed in math, reading, and writing gain confidence and master foundational skills through clear, step-by-step instruction that finally makes learning click.
Hello! Thanks for considering me as a tutor!I started tutoring while I was earning my math degree at Trinity University. Now, I'm retired from a long career in IT at the University of Texas, and am enjoying my next chapter as a math and SAT/ACT tutor.I use a cooperative and positive teaching style that concentrates on building competency and a confident attitude toward the subject matter, letting the student's grasp of the material set the pace so they are neither bored nor overwhelmed, but engaged.
Although my life has taken me on many adventures, I have always known I wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from Trinity University with a degree in French and International Studies having spent a semester of my junior year studying abroad in Paris. I then earned my Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Elementary Education, which included a full year internship teaching at an elementary school. I still knew that I loved teaching, but I also felt drawn back to French, so I pursued a PhD in French literature at UT Austin. During that time, I worked as an teaching assistant for a Freshman composition course and taught the first two levels of college French for two years. I also researched in Paris for another semester. More recently, I have worked for two years as a tutor, both in person and online, in French, Essay Writing, and Test Prep. I have 5+ years of teaching experience with all ages, elementary through graduate school, in French, Writing, and elementary school subjects. I strongly believe that there is no one way to learn, and that tutoring should fit each student's individual needs and interests.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in History from Trinity University in 2020. I earned my Master of Arts in History in May 2022 at Texas Christian University. Currently, I am a PhD student. Upon graduating, I hope to become a university professor and academic historian. During the school semester, I am also a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the History Department. This opportunity allows me to spend much time either working one-on-one with undergraduate students or in front of classrooms teaching history lessons. I enjoy discussing history and helping students see the ways it's more than dates and events. So much of history is being able to communicate your ideas and put together a solid argument for your interpretation of the past. Since everyone knows how history turns out, the classroom is somewhere to discuss or debate why events occurred. By association, writing is a passion of mine, and I spend much time doing it for my own grad courses and dissertation research.
I am a recent graduate of Trinity University with a B.S. in Biology. I am going into Physician Assistant school very soon. I love math and science, and I want to make sure every student can thrive in STEM using their own personal strategies.
My name is Ms. Holmes, and I am deeply passionate about teaching & helping students reach their full academic potential. I strive to create engaging, creative learning experiences because I understand that every student learns differently. I lead with compassion and empathy, while also upholding high expectations and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. I bring a positive, energetic presence to every session, energy that others often describe as contagious. Of this I am proud!
My educational journey has been an adventure, and I am grateful for the experience. I currently hold three degrees, and look forward to adding a fourth in the future. I have a Bachelor's degree in Science/education from Abilene Christian University. Additionally, I have a Masters in Teaching from Trinity University. I truly believe education is invaluable. With that being said, it is my honor to teach your child. Our sessions will be filled with exploration, discovery, and growth. Throughout the upcoming months I look forward to the work we will do together. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
I am a physics nerd who enjoys creating frameworks, analogies, and processes to make solving problems as concrete and objective as possible. I enjoy the wonders of strange and counterintuitive scientific facts, events, etc. I know one of my life's purposes is to help others find their success.
I am a rising sophomore at Trinity University. I am pursuing a major in mathematics and computer science. I am very passionate about science and math, and hope to help others feel the same way. In high school and college I found every opportunity to help others in the areas I felt strong in. I truly love teaching others. In areas some find especially difficult, such as math, I do everything I can to help others understand. By using real world examples and applications for math problems, and simply explaining things in new ways I feel I can impact a students view on math and science, and help them grow to love it like I do.
I have over ten years of experience in higher education student support, to include several years of teaching and tutoring. I love to support students and provide "tricks of the trade" to help them crack the toughest test questions.I believe every student has the potential to learn and that the teaching/learning relationship requires 100% effort from the teacher and student. Because each student learns differently, it's important for educators to quickly learn their students' learning styles so they can adapt the material and the approach to best meet the students' needs.I teach with care and patience. The best part of teaching is helping a student to independently solve problems. I will work with students relentlessly to help them be successful.
Teaching English to speakers of other languages is my true calling in life. I love it! I have been teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) since 2001 and have taught all ages, different proficiency levels, and students from all over the world. I love learning about different countries and cultures through my students. My B.A. in International Studies and German and my M.A. in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies with a concentration in ESL have given me a strong foundation in the field of international education. Our ESL lessons will be dynamic, clear, effective, and most of all fun! I can help you understand complicated grammar rules, improve your pronunciation in a systematic way, and help you improve every aspect of your English proficiency. I can also teach you about the culture, customs, and workforce norms in the US.
I am a student at Trinity University currently studying biochemistry. I have experience as a tutor my senior year at Clear Lake High School, when I worked as an instructor at Mathnasium. I also volunteered in a program helping students with SAT prep and college applications. My favorite subject to tutor is math, because the clear cut answers of mathematics make it easy for a student to see their progress and build their confidence, which for me is the best part of tutoring! My teaching style is very flexible, as everyone has different needs, but I usually use a lot of socratic questioning. Outside of academics, my interests include singing, soccer, and most recently, rock climbing!
As a recent graduate from Trinity University with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, I have an in-depth knowledge and love for sciences. I also recently took the DAT, the dental admissions test, which focuses on math, reading, biology, and chemistry, which continued to keep my brain focused in the sciences after graduation. Although my love for learning and sciences is strong does not mean these subjects come easily to me. I work and study extremely hard to meet my goals and find great reward from my dedication.
I am a passionate student who upholds the philosophy that all who can teach must know how to learn. I don't believe there is any correct way to learn; knowledge is amorphous. Therefore, my mission is to immerse myself in rigid information and transform it into fluid knowledge. I hope to gift what I learn to others through teaching.
I'm not shy, but if you are it's ok I once was too. I'm a student of the mind and so all of my teachings will be tailored toward each individual or group traits that day. It's ok to fail, but don't allow yourself to quit. Learning is hard sometimes because everyone's brain understands things in a different way. But those differences, when explored, can make learning fun and make complex topics easier to understand. I'm not the old guy who loves hearing his own voice and likes to stand; so I don't lecture. I like to keep teaching/learning process fun, interactive, and creative because no one likes to be bored and confused. So involvement is key!
I am a graduate of Trinity University with a B.S. in biology and a minor in spanish. I am available for tutoring in math and science courses, as well as beginner spanish and ACT prep. In my tutoring experience, I have primarily worked with high school students in science and math courses, and have really enjoyed the opportunity to encourage enthusiasm for their classes during these sessions. I work to help my students understand the material at a conceptual level so that they can build upon what they have learned in the future, and also focus on organization in problem-solving methods. Outside of tutoring, I study physical therapy at UCD and spend my free time running and hiking with friends.
I recently graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Science with a concentration in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics.I have always had a passion for teaching and my hopes are to help students overcome their difficulties. I believe that with practice, dedication, and a positive attitude, people can attain any goal. Everyone learns in different ways, and as a tutor I like to get to know the students and find a teaching style that works best for them.I was born in Quito, Ecuador and I grew up speaking Spanish. In my free time I enjoy reading (especially novels), spending time outside, and enjoying a good meal with friends and family.
I believe in a flexible methodology. I believe not everyone learns in the same fashion or at the same rate. This does not mean a student is more or less intelligent than the next or the teacher is always right. There are fundamental methods and approaches that a student must learn when obtaining an education. The difference between a good teacher and a great one is adapting those methods and approaches to each individual. This cannot always be done in a classroom setting, and that is why we have tutors. I may not be the right tutor for everyone, but I'll do my best with everyone and hopefully change a few lives. In the end, this is not just about teaching them a specific subject, it's helping them evolve how they think in order to allow them to attack any subject now and in the future by teaching them how to break things down and approach it in an effective way.
I am a recent graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with a B.S. in Neuroscience cum laude. I am living in Austin until I begin medical school in July. Tutoring has always been a hobby of mine, and I continued my passion for teaching during college by being the Peer Tutor for a Statistics course and a Biology course at Trinity. Additionally, I tutored middle and high school students in the San Antonio community while working for a company similar to Varsity Tutoring. My favorite part of being a tutor is seeing the light-bulb moment happen for my students when they finally grasp a concept they???ve been struggling with. Usually with my students and as a student myself, I find that explaining concepts in a different way with language that is more understandable or connecting it to real-world experiences goes a long way. As a competitive swimmer for the past 15 years and the captain of my college team, I understand the desire students have for excelling in both the classroom and in their extracurricular activities and the struggle that can occur between balancing them. Besides tutoring, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and my dog, and cooking!
Currently I am a MA/MS student at Brandeis University's Heller School of Social Policy. I graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a double major in International Studies and Spanish and a double minor in Geology and History. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia from January 2012-2014 as a grade 5-9 English teacher in an underprivileged school. After school, I led twice weekly test prep sessions for 9th grade. These prep classes covered topics in English, Civics, Geometry, Algebra 1 and Geography. In addition to teaching and conducting test prep, I also individually tutored elementary students in reading and phonics, and led weekly adult literacy classes.I am a great tutor because I genuinely care about my students. Also, I have the patience, ingenuity and compassion to help the student improve in the subject they are struggling with. For example, the year prior to my arrival at the school, only 5% of the 9th grade passed on to 10th grade. However, the following year, thanks to our prep classes and the students dedication, 85% of the students passed. This dramatic improvement proves my ability to help students achieve in the classroom.
As a dedicated educator with a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Trinity University, I have over 4 years of tutoring experience in subjects including AP Biology, college writing, and study skills. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive learning environment where students can confidently engage with complex material. I tailor my methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, ensuring that each student feels valued and motivated. I am currently teaching and strive to connect academic concepts to real-world applications, making learning both engaging and relevant. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring local eateries and crocheting in my free time. My passion for education drives me to inspire students to reach their full potential.
I am an enthusiastic tutor, and my love of writing is contagious. I recently completed a Fulbright Grant in Kunming, China, where I conducted research on HIV/AIDS policy. Before that, I graduated from Trinity University with a B.A. in Political Science and Mandarin Chinese. As a student at Trinity, I was a peer tutor for an honors course for incoming freshmen. I enjoy working with students on essay writing skills by helping them develop their argument, while focusing on structure and grammar. Writing essays can be a frustrating, daunting experience for some students. It can also be difficult to break out of old formulas and write at the college level. Using my experience with research, persuasive, and expository writing, I help students break down the process into manageable steps. I have always especially enjoyed analysis of literature and politics. I love reading in my spare time, and am excited to hear students' perspectives on literature. I teach tricks to look for and track literary devices, such as color-marking. As a Political Science major, my coursework included courses on the U.S. system, political thought, and international politics. Part of the fun of tutoring is exploring concepts with students through their questions and particular interests. As a Varsity Tutor, I am also excited to share my study tips and tricks. It is hard to keep track of so many classes and projects! An organized workload always seems more manageable, and I am happy to help. Outside of tutoring, you can spot me running on the trail or enjoying some of Austin's awesome live music. Although I have Austin roots, I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and am enjoying being back in the Lone Star State.
College level coursework can be completely different from that of high school and I am excited to help others make that jump, especially in STEM disciplines. Even if you don't consider yourself to be a math and science person, I believe you can make great progress with the right attitude.I study Engineering Science at Trinity University. I tutor in group sessions for classes like Statics and Dynamics. I've made a list of meaningful study habits and learning strategies that I would like to share.I also graduated high school with an IB Diploma. I am very comfortable with IB Literature (HL), Mathematics, and Theory of Knowledge.
Hi! My name is Nate. I first realized my love for teaching as a swim instructor for students of all ages while I grew up in Colorado. From there, I moved to San Antonio where I majored in Engineering Sciences with minors in Physics and Math at Trinity University. While at Trinity, I tutored classmates in Physics and Math. Word got around that I was pretty good and I was referred to friends and families in the area. After undergrad, I attended graduate school at Duke University where I continued to tutor as a university employee working with student-athletes. Now I'm employed as an engineer in Fort Worth and I'd love to teach again as well! I have always been introspective when it comes to my education, so I've paid a lot of attention to what works for me when I'm being taught. I love interactive learning and problem solving as opposed to lectures and I value the importance of putting something in your own terms to understand rather than memorizing a dictionary or textbook definition. I understand the struggle of keeping good grades amongst a busy schedule and would love to help
I am a high school and college level essay writing tutor with a passion for helping young adults thrive through their collegiate career and beyond! My lessons are structured, personalised, and designed to help students develop confidence in their writing abilities. With 5+ years of tutoring across English, the Humanities, and undergraduate admissions, I have helped students build a strong foundation in argumentative and persuasive writing, college admissions essays, and LSAT test prep. My tutoring style focuses on providing structure, guidance, and skill acquisition techniques that will allow students to write with confidence!
Prior to teaching, I earned my BA in English and Communications from Trinity University, in San Antonio. I tutor students in Reading and Writing, and believe that learning can and should be fun. I approach each session with an open mind, a sense of humor, and the belief that everyone can learn. My truest passion is for literature and writing. I love working one-on-one with people who either need extra help, or who want to go above and beyond academically. People learn in a variety of different ways, so I try to get to know those I work with, in order to ensure that they are learning in a style that makes sense to them, and that they feel confident in.
Hi, my name is Allison, and I am a fifth year Ph. D. candidate in the chemistry department at the University of Florida. I have worked with high school and college level chemistry students, and I am willing to meet you where you are at in chemistry. If you are willing to work to learn it, I will match that effort to help you learn it. When I work with students I prefer to work in smaller groups, so that I can better address your specific concerns and areas where you want help. After having been a TA for three years and tutoring for five, I have learned that there are many ways to present a concept, and some ways of explaining things make more sense than others to some people. I am flexible with how I present information and will work to do it in a way that maximizes your ability to understand the material. I have also gained a series of tips and tricks that help to keep easily confused information straight. As a tutor I want it to be enjoyable, but I want you to learn also, so I typically have a focused but relaxed tutoring environment.
Throughout my high school and college years, I loved math and Spanish. I pursued (and received) a minor in mathematics and a second major in Spanish simply because I wanted to continue my studies in both subject areas. I have tutored in the past (both Spanish and math) and enjoy the opportunity to work with students on a one-to-one level. I believe that individual attention can assist the student greatly in learning. After 15 years of working in a corporate environment, I am now a high school math teacher (Geometry) at Incarnate Word Academy.I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 2 dogs, teaching Sunday school at our church, and reading.I look forward to working with you!
