We're all learning together. Mistakes are part of life, and with practice and patience, we can always grow and improve. Everyone has strengths and challenges, and trying is what matters most. I have six and a half years of experience teaching English in Japan to students of all ages.I'm passionate about tutoring because I love helping students gain confidence in a relaxed, supportive environment where progress is celebrated and learning feels achievable.

I am a rising Sophomore at Union College, located in New York. I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a potential minor in Environmental Science or Engineering. Throughout High School, I was apart of the schools' Homework Club which helped and tutored kids from Elementary to Middle School on their assignments or topics they found difficult. I love working with younger kids and served as a mentor for a Jr FIRST LEGO LEAGUE team in which I helped prepare them for their presentations and kept them excited to learn. I'm also a native french speaker. I attended a French School from K5 to 5th grade, in which I then transferred to the American School System. My favorite subjects to tutor are French, Math, and Reading and I enjoy teaching them to younger kids, preferably Elementary to Middle School kids. I am passionate about helping students and tutoring these specific age groups because I find it to be the most rewarding. I love looking at the progress they've made, motivating them to be excited about learning, and showing them that learning can be fun! In my spare time, I enjoy playing sports, spending time with family, and hanging out with friends.
I am a student at Union College and I am studying as a pre-med student with a diuble major in Biology and Psychology. I am a member of my school's Leadership in Medicine (LIM) program, which enables me to earn a Bachelors of Sciences as well as an M.B.A. in Healthcare Management during my time at Union College. After graduation, I will automatically matriculate to Albany Medical College, where I plan to complete my four years of medical school. During my time at Union, I have volunteered as a tutor and mentor for disadvantaged elementary school students with a local after school program known as C.O.C.O.A House (Children of Our Community Open to Achievement). Working at C.O.C.O.A House taught me many lessons about teaching, patience, and how to truly listen to students when guiding them through difficult subjects. I teach many subjects that I am passionate about, such as English, History, Science, and Math. My favorite thing to do with students is have them explain concepts back to me, so that they can build up their own confidence in their knowledge and understanding of the material. In my free time, I enjoy working out, playing tennis, learning how to cook, playing video games, and reading.
I have been a research scientist, application scientist, and career trainer. I have also taught chemistry and life sciences for over 25 years from high school all the way up to graduate level and adult education. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and strong technical, training, communication, and interpersonal skills, as evidenced by the awarding of 7 patents and receiving 3 awards for excellence in teaching/leadership.
I grew up in the Saratoga, NY area and transferred to Union College from the University of Rochester after circumstances required me to take a year off from school and be closer to home. I received an almost full academic scholarship to attend the University of Rochester and played baseball while I was there. While at Union, I co-founded Sawatch Holdings, developed a program called "Reading with Tugg" with the Crossroads Center for Children Administration, and worked on average 30 hours per week between my various positions. I am also actively involved in volunteering at Albany Medical Center (primarily with the therapy dog program, in which I visit patients with my buddy, Tugg, who is a 3-year-old yellow labrador retriever) and enjoy playing golf, going hiking, and reading works on philosophy, economics, and the financial markets.I majored in economics and biology and minored in philosophy alongside taking the pre-medical course requirements. I scored in the 94th percentile on the MCAT and I finished with a 3.9 GPA. My undergraduate thesis investigated my interest in health economics and was titled, "Suicidal Behaviors in Adolescence and Critical Outcomes in Adulthood". I am currently planning to spend the next two academic years conducting clinical translational research at the NIH and I will apply to dual degree MD-MBA programs next application cycle, with the intention of matriculating into medical school in the fall of 2019.I took the MCAT once after approximately 1 month of studying. Despite studying for much less time than the average pre-med student, I was able to score a 515 (130/128/129/129) because I have a strong grasp on the concepts and strategies required to do well. In my experience, it's not superior knowledge but critical thinking skills and the implementation of certain strategies that distinguish the top scorers. I look forward to helping you understand the content covered on the MCAT, as well as working with you to develop the critical thinking skills and strategies needed to score in the top percentiles!
I am a dental student pursuing a career as an Oral Surgeon. I have always had a passion for helping others. I have tutored since I was in college at all levels varying from middle school / high school to my peers in undergrad at Union College. There I graduated summa cum laude while studying Biomedical Engineering and minors in Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering.
I try to treat every student as a violin student -- lots of feedback and one-to-one attention, not so much lecture.I've been working in education for nearly 10 years, as a tutor, classroom teacher (I am certified in Math 7-12 in Connecticut), and developer of teaching materials. My most recent gigs have been hourly / independent contractor / free-lance, which I haven't put on my resume. I've been tutoring, mostly for the Hamden (CT) school district as a three-quarters-time job but also occasionally for some local agencies. And I've been developing materials for several publishers of math textbooks and web-sites.
I have always loved math and helping people grow skills and gain confidence with their math studies. If any students are in the Brick, NJ area I am still willing to do IN PERSON TUTORING.
Teaching is my passion as I have studied for many years to receive my B.S. in Language Arts Education and my B.A. in Second Language Studies: Spanish. I have my Masters of English: Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Wyoming. Currently I am a World Literature teaching in Minneapolis, MN. I love interacting with students in a fun and creative way so that the lesson sticks with them.
I began tutoring other students in 6th grade, as part of the Jr. National Honor Society. I continued tutoring throughout all of middle and high school, graduating in 2012 and heading to college. In college, I volunteered to tutor local elementary school students in the afternoons for one term and was later selected to serve as a lab assistant in an introduction to computer science class at my undergraduate institution. I was recently selected to serve as a teacher's assistant for an introduction to communication class during my first semester of graduate school.I received my Bachelor of Arts in English degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in June 2016. I also minored in computer science. I graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors and was elected to Union's chapters of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta. I will be attending Boston University's College of Communication in the fall to pursue my Master of Science in Journalism.Outside of tutoring and school, I enjoy listening to NPR (#careergoals), reading (anything and everything!), and traveling. My most recent big trip was to the Caribbean, but I also travel within the Northeast a fair amount; I just got back from a week in New Hampshire and Boston. Before the Caribbean, I spent three weeks in London as part of a short study abroad program focused on theater.
In June 2020, I graduated from Union College with a double major in English and Spanish and Hispanic Studies and a minor in Dance. I started working as a tutor in the Writing Center at Union, to share my passion for helping others with their studies and enhancing their English and Spanish abilities, from writing papers to oral speaking skills. Following school, I also started one-on-one tutoring for high school AP and Honors Spanish students.
My name is A.J. Hubbard and I'm excited to work alongside students to help them cultivate their study strategies, improve their work habits, develop their critical writing and reading skills, and prepare for important tests and assignments. I am an avid writer, reader, and history buff who prioritizes the long-term development of student learning strategies.
I am a graduate of Union Adventist University as well as Western Governors University. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in mathematics education. I have worked with students from 3rd grade through high school seniors. I am passionate about math and science but have worked with students in all subjects. Outside of academics, I love aviation, cross country skiing, biking, kayaking, baseball, my dog Jack, traveling, and hanging out with my friends.
I am a current third-year medical student at Albany Medical College planning on a career in academic surgery. I received my MBA in Healthcare Management from Clarkson University and my BS in Chemistry and Anthropology from Union College. I have prior experience working with High School students in test preparatory subjects, such at ACT and SAT as well as elementary school students in reading comprehension and literacy. I am also passionate about math and science and I love working with others to help improve understanding in these subjects. My teaching style is very inclusive and involves extensive collaboration between me and the student. My main focus is on material comprehension and application of the material so that students are very comfortable answering a wide range of questions. In my spare time, I love playing tennis, snowboarding, and hiking or just curling up next to the fireplace and reading a book!
Hello! I have a love of math and chemistry with an undergradute degree in chemistry and masters degree in engineering. I believe that no matter what problems or struggles you bring to tutoring, any student can understand and succeed. You just haven't had the right explanation yet, and we will find it together! I look forward to meeting and working with you.
I am currently in my junior year at Union College. I will graduate with a B.S. in Biology in June of 2016, and plan to go to medical school after. My tutoring experience is quite varied. Back in high school I was the TA for a computer science course and a volunteer tutor in chemistry and biology. More recently, I have done more informal tutoring, such as helping friends at college with biochemistry and MCAT preparation, and helping my younger sister with note taking skills, AP US History, and ACT prep. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from computer science to history and biochemistry to critical reading. My favorite subjects to tutor though, are standardized test prep and biochemistry. Though enjoying standardized tests is not a common opinion, I have always liked the logical nature of standardized test questions, and the fact that simply by working on a few test taking skills students can see marked improvement. Biochemistry, while far from a simple field, is one of my favorite subjects. I find the chemical basis for how biological mechanisms work to be fascinating. Biomedical research is also a passion of mine; I have worked in a handful of labs since high school, from a critical care surgical lab studying treatments for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome to a study on managing diabetes. In my free time, I enjoy reading (especially nonfiction scientific or political books), playing tennis, listening to and playing music (I play piano), and the occasional Netflix marathon. I believe that no matter the subject, every student has the potential for success.
I am very versatile and have a background of teaching students from various backgrounds and on many different subjects. I have taught English abroad to five year old students, and have also worked with college students as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Hawaii while in graduate school. I am passionate about helping people grow and learn and looking forward to working with you!
I am a premedical student majoring in biology and psychology attending Union College in upstate New York, as part of the 8-year combined "Leadership in Medicine" program with Albany Medical College. Since as early as elementary school, math has been my favorite academic subject, and most of my tutoring experience has been in tutoring math. I enjoy math of all kinds, from algebra to geometry to higher-level mathematics like calculus and statistics, and I find the problems to be like fun mini puzzles where there are different strategies to arrive at the correct answer. I hope to use my skills and experience with math to help clarify confusing concepts and give students the tools they need to solve complex problems. Outside of math, I am also proficient in essay editing and test prep (SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP). I have worked as a college admissions essay editor for over a year and edited essays for students who were accepted to top schools like CalTech, Northwestern, and Northeastern. I would be happy to share editing samples upon request. On both the SAT and ACT exams, I scored in the 99th percentile, with a perfect score on my ACT. It would be a rewarding experience for me to play a part in helping you maximize your academic potential.
I have spent most of the last 20 years teaching and training others both in the classroom and on-the-job. I have a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology as well as an M.A. in Biology. I have taught college-level courses in Introductory Biology, Microbiology, and Anatomy and Physiology. Though, I also teach non-majors, most of my students are planning careers in health care fields such as nursing and respiratory therapy. I also have experience teaching HS level Biology and Integrated Chemistry and Physics as well as math remediation courses for those not prepared for Algebra. I have worked with students of all ages, but I have a particular passion for teaching and working with adults. I particularly enjoy helping adult students overcome their fear of math and science.
Back in high school I started a tutoring group to help my basketball teammates with math problems, it was then I realized I was destined to be a teacher.Math has always been my favorite subject, although I feel like I'm different than most "math lovers". Solving math problems didn't always come me easy to me, I had to work hard and study hard to get good grades. I believe it is this very thing that makes me a great math teacher. I can relate to the students and their struggles, all while keeping them motivated to work hard and be successful. I believe if I can do it my students can too!!With all of that being said, I have been passionately teaching math for the past 15 years at the middle school and early high school level. I would love to branch out of just my community and find other to help, so what better way to do that than through Varsity Tutors.
I have a BS in Mathematics from Union College and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. I took a break from tutoring mathematics to pursue my other interests in the field of healthcare. I focused on community health and had the opportunity to work with people from all backgrounds and of all ages. I truly enjoy helping others and watching them succeed in whatever area of life they want; that is why I like being a tutor. Previously, I tutored algebra in high school and went on to tutor all levels of math in college with a focus on Calculus and the core skills needed to succeed in that subject. I really enjoyed my time tutoring in college because I really got to know students and watch them progress over the entire class duration. Building that relationship with students is what I enjoy most because it creates a fun environment for learning where students can feel comfortable discussing struggles openly while working toward the ultimate goal of understanding and critical thinking skills. In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, reading, exercising, baking and doing crafts.
I received my B.S. from Union College where I majored in Chemistry and double minored in Dance and Theatrical Makeup. I then received my M.S. from Boston College where I specialized in Organic Chemistry. I have been teaching Chemistry and Physical Science in public and private high school for the past 3 years. I have been doing private tutoring Chemistry since I was a sophomore in college. I particularly love showing students how what they are studying is directly related to the world around them using traditional lecture as well as interactive visuals. I truly believe every student can succeed at science and do everything in my power to instill a passion and love for science in all my students. Outside of science, I spend most of my free time reading, running or performing in various dance companies.

Hi! My name is Jenna and I just received my masters in education from Clarkson University, specializing in 7-12 English. Currently, I am in Mexico City nannying for a family and working on my Spanish as well (I intend to become certified in teaching Spanish when I come home). Thus, I am qualified to teach English (reading, writing, grammar, etc.) and Spanish (reading, writing, grammar, etc). To able to tutor is a gift to me, as this profession couples two of my favorite passionsworking with students and exploring the humanities.I have about a year and a half of teaching experience. I did a two full semesters of student teaching (adding up to one year) and I have worked for a year at an elementary school being a permanent substitute. Thus, I have experience working with students ranging from kindergarten to 11th grade. My teaching philosophy is that everyone is worthy of receiving an education. Tutoring is such a great way to ensure that this becomes a reality for our kids. Every student deserves respect, patience, excitement, and faith, and I showcase these qualities in every single interaction I have with my students. Let the learning commence! :)
I am a current Ph.D student at the University of Texas at Dallas. I received my bachelors of science in Mathematics with honors from Union College. While in undergrad, I spent all four years working as a course assistant, aiding professors with grading and coursework. I also volunteered with Girls Inc all four years, tutoring students in grades 1-5 in a range of topics, but mostly math. During the summers, I worked with the academic outreach program, as an RA and a tutor for students going into their first year at Union College. Now as a Ph.D student, I have spent two years as a TA for undergraduate students, mostly working in calculus based courses. I find tutoring an incredibly rewarding process; fostering a students growth, working closely with a few students, and really breaking through educational barriers that are difficult to tackle in a large classroom setting.
I am a long-time teacher (law) and have tutored for bar review and for the LSAT. I have been an attorney since 1987. I am a former assistant district attorney, police attorney for the New York City Police Department, and agency legal specialist for the North Carolina Justice Academy. I have taught criminal procedure, constitutional law, torts, contracts, and criminal law to law students at Concord Law School of Kaplan University. I have provided legal instruction well over a thousand law enforcement officers. I have also taught law at the undergraduate level.I have a strong interest in making sure that students understand the material, and I will communicate with you to understand which learning style works best.Outside interests include animal welfare, reading, tennis, and visiting New York City, my "old home town".
I am a graduate of Union College, where I was awarded a BA degree, with Honors in English. After graduation, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for two years in El Salvador, teaching English at the National University in San Salvador. That was where and when I first learned how much I enjoy teaching. When I returned from Central America, I went to Law School at the University of Michigan. After graduation, I returned to Connecticut and practiced law for about fifteen years. During this time I also graded Bar Exam Essays for the Connecticut Bar Examining Committee. I then accepted a job at General Reinsurance in Stamford, supervising litigation and arbitration all over the country. I stayed at Gen Re for almost twenty-five years.I believe that teaching or tutoring is a journey best taken together. Since I have been over the ground before, many many times, I am familiar with some of the pitfalls and many of the shortcuts; and can provide a perspective which many students will find helpful. I see my task as making sure that we arrive safely at our destination together, having had as interesting and enjoyable a passage as possible.

Hello! I am a high school teacher of Introduction to Biology, Algebra 2 and AP Biology. I have been at my current school for the past two years, and taught at another school for two years before that. At my previous school, I taught Environmental Science and Biology. My first experience as a teacher was right out of college, when I taught summer courses in Biology and Algebra 1. I graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY, after attending the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT. Throughout all of my education, I have always been drawn to the sciences, particularly Biology. My major in college was in Biological Sciences, with a concentration in Molecular Biology. Because of the enthusiasm and curiosity that my Microbiology teacher in high school instilled in me, I was inspired to work with students to try and turn on that same interest in science after college. My mother has taught for over 30 years, so it must be in my blood! My passion in the classroom is helping students to realize their true awareness of the natural world around them, and I use labs, visuals, models, and a variety of other methods to help them better understand the complex concepts in science. Many students come into the class thinking that the sciences are very difficult and that one must have a predisposition towards them to succeed, but I enjoy showing them that the sciences, particularly Biology, are very simple and elegant. In my Algebra classes, I try to show students how topics can expand beyond the borders of the classroom, also by using a variety of visuals and models. Sometimes, certain students need more than just good analogies and thorough explanations to help them succeed, and this often requires learning effective organizational and study skills. I frequently work with students outside of the classroom to design better ways to schedule their time, and organize their materials. In my free time, I am an avid fan of exploring St. Louis! This is only my second year living in the Midwest and I have been enjoying discovering new parks and neighborhoods whenever I can find time. I like to travel, as well, and visit friends and family on the East Coast, but I feel as if St. Louis has become my new home.
As a certified elementary and middle school teacher, I am delighted to support and guide you on your academic journey to excellence. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. My favorite subjects to teach are Math and ELA. I have tutored online since 2017 and I have enjoyed seeing my students make great progress in their reading, speaking, and math skills. I am passionate about helping each and every one of you succeed and achieve your goals. I believe every scholar can learn and be successful. I am looking forward to seeing you in the online classroom.
I have been teaching students Algebra and Geometry for the last ten years and have considered myself not only a tutor but a full time coach and support network. One of my most memorable experiences was when Omar called me to tell me he passed the Algebra Regents. I was screaming with him when I heard the news! We worked so hard for months as he was a struggling student. I take pride in making sure my students understand the material to the best of their ability and view their progress as a reflection of my own achievements. Aside from developing a curriculum specialized to each one's level of capability, I vary problems so they have a broader knowledge of the subject matter at hand. Most recently during the pandemic, I taught essential workers' kids voluntarily and think learning is one of life's best therapies! I look forward to meeting you and working through all of your math goals.
