I'm an English major and I have a JD from Suffolk Law. Coming out of college as an English major, I chose to pursue law, with the eventual goal of becoming a law professor down the line. I've always loved helping and teaching people, as I believe it's the most important thing we can do for one another as human beings - if we have the knowledge, I think we should share it with as many people as we can. I used to teach Cello part-time to fellow students when I was in high school, and that was great fun for everyone.I've traveled extensively and have had some great experiences with education in other countries, like the UK, Sweden, and even Cuba. I take pride in helping my students understand what they are trying to learn, as well as in helping them to achieve what they've set out to do. I received my undergraduate degree in English at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where I graduated summa cum laude and won the James William Fay Essay Prize for best undergraduate writing for the 2009-2010 school year. I also minored in dance, with a focus on ballet, which I have been teaching for over 10 years. I went on to receive a master's degree in English at Boston College where I studied postcolonial literature and theory, with a specific focus on Anglophone literatures hailing from England, Ireland, and India. Since graduating, I have taught writing and literature at the undergraduate-level and helped students revise their writing for a wide array of classes as a university tutor. In my free time I like to take dance classes (having been trained in classical ballet myself) and go to concerts. I also like to read, watch movies, and catch the Patriots on Sundays.
I have a PhD (Yale) in history and an MBA (UCLA) in finance. I have excellent writing and research skills, and have made extensive use of German and French -- spoken and for research. My work in finance has required skills with mathematics. I have taught university classes in finance and international economics. Another area of much interest, related to my background in history and public policy, is US constitutional law. I published a book on monetary history (*Gold, France, and the Great Depression*) , and a more recent book of essays on topics in economics and diplomatic history (http://books.ksplibrary.org/978-625-7501-75-0/ ) .... I have worked extensively on government-related projects, often in the greater Middle East. Effective tutoring should do more than impart techniques -- it should certainly do that -- it should help a student come away with some interest in and enthusiasm for the topic. (Soft evidence for the last is that my daughter earned a PhD in neuro-science, and credits me with inspiring her.)

I've been a practicing archaeologist for 10 years with as much interest in fieldwork as laboratory methods, and I'm currently focussing on raising my toddler after a recent year long teaching appointment at MIT in ceramic analysis. Archaeology is often misunderstood strictly as the study of the human past, but it's more interesting than that: it's the study of human changes over space and time.Every teaching or idea is only as good as it's applications. Archaeology has applications in and draws on all sorts of fields to answer questions including history, linguistics, geography, manufacturing and construction methods, geology, industrial science, photography, chemistry and so on. My subject palette reflects a close engagement with their applications in archaeological work and my personal reserach.I also spent 15 years in Europe as a dual citizen, moving through Germany, Switzerland and the UK. As a young boy, this threw me into the deep end of a foreign languages and so I was always adapting to a new challenge to be a less obvious outsider. It was hard going no doubt, but I found that confidence with language was not a matter of learning endless tables and words and phrases, but becoming truly familiar with the tools and the gears that make everything work.This independence is a lasting contribution of studying languages, and this is my tutoring focus. I will not have your student recite tables, we will investigate them and make them tools. Your student will not just learn vocabulary and grammar but will gain an appreciation for how closely German and English are related. And your student will not just pronounce words but pronounce them well (if they're making odd sounds it's because I told them to practice them: GOOD!).I understand from personal experience how difficult education and standards and pressure can be. I am committed to recognizing how a student learns best and I value learning from them in return. Learning is a life-long two-way street.

Hi! I have taught high school math in Boston for three years. Most of my experience has been with Algebra 1 and Geometry, but I'm comfortable with all math content up through Calculus.
