I was born and raised in Northern Italy, in the mountains, in a place where most people actually speak German. No, I don't have an accent, because my father is American and so I was raised bilingually from birth speaking German and English at home. Later of course I learnt Italian and then I studied Latin, French in high school as well. I've always been passionate about learning languages, and when I was into something, learning was easy for me and I enjoyed it.I graduated from the University of Innsbruck (Austria) with a MA in English and a minor in Spanish. After graduating, I worked in linguistic research and then decided to get a TEFL certificate to teach English as a foreign language. I moved from Italy to Prague and spent about a year teaching EFL there to private clients, both adults and kids as well as a class in high school. That's when I realized that teaching is my calling, my thing. I moved back to Italy to teach EFL in high school and middle school for 2.5 years, before moving to Detroit to get my MA in education at the University of Michigan Flint. Since 2019, I have been working as a teacher in public schools, and I am passionate about helping students. I believe that we all are learners and teachers. all of us are readers and writers. I have the ability to share my passion for learning with others, and one of my greatest strengths is building relationships with students which is the corner stone to successful learning and teaching. I believe that there are no bad kids or bad students, it's just that we all have different paths and ways of learning, we all have a different pace. As a teacher i strive to acknowledge that and find ways to support all students, adapting to their needs and paths, meeting them where they are at. It is my job to believe in every single student and help them believe in themselves. When I am not teaching or engaging with students, I like to read, walk, hike, travel, explore, work out, watch my favorite shows. I enjoy playing and watching ice hockey, and I try to go home to visit my family in Italy once a year.

In 2017, I completed by Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. After graduation, I worked as an engineering consultant specializing in mechatronics and aerodynamic testing. In addition to consulting, I was a professional triathlete where I competed at Olympic Trials and earned a silver medal at a World Cup. Last Fall, I started a Master's in Robotics at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I'm passionate about using technology to improve people's lives, not to simply make their lives "easier". I pride myself as being extremely curious and always excited to dive deep into the weeds. I'm excited to share and foster that same passion in other students.
I believe there is a fine line between teaching and learning. I good teacher will learn from his/her student and vice versa. I also strive to create a comfortable and safe environment for my students, so they are not afraid to make mistakes, learn from their mistakes and take chances.
Thinking about my own experience in education, I appreciate the incredible impact that teachers have on the lives of young people. I know that teachers provide skills and knowledge used by young people throughout life. Therefore, as a teacher, my greatest aim is to be a role model. I want to cultivate open minds, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically, and students' belief in their own capacity to make positive contributions to society. I began teaching as a teacher's assistant at the University of Michigan in 2015. I grew my skills and began a teaching position during my Master's degree until I graduated in 2018. Since then, I have taken multiple adjunct professorships, which has given me plenty of experience in classroom-based teaching. I have taken time to set up the classroom for lessons, lab activities, and study sessions. This experience has taught me about the importance of differentiation in lesson planning and how to cater to different student learning. This year I have been chosen as a STEM mentor, which has various responsibilities such as organizing times to meet with my mentees, helping them with life goals, and developing plans to getting careers. I enjoy this role because I feel it is important to help students achieve their goals not just in the classroom but in the real world as well. My inspiration for teaching stems from my own school experience; particularly because of my Biology teacher. I felt valued because she treated me as an individual, encouraging me to constantly improve myself. My teacher's enthusiasm and commitment motivated us to work hard. Between January and June 2019, I spent time as an educational curator in a challenging school district. I worked with 1st to 4th-grade students. The contrast between this school and the other school systems I worked in for this company was significant I found that a greater variety of styles of teaching were used I expected. I recognize the importance of communication within teaching; something I learned from working for the Biology department during my Master's degree starting in August 2015. I was an assistant in zoology courses and had to liaise and plan with teachers to help with different activities. In January 2016, I was offered the same role again, but this time I was given the opportunity to independently plan and develop an activity. It had to be based on different organism's anatomy, with the aim of the project to become a study tool to use throughout the semester. My undergraduate and master's degree in Biology has given me an understanding of many different concepts. This general understanding is important for teaching. I am now confident that the high school and college-age range is where my main interest in teaching. I currently teach General Biology, Environmental Science, Human Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology. I also teach environmental science at a day camp for K-12 grade students and I have gained confidence in that category as well! My skills in responsive thinking, sensitivity, patience, high motivation, and enthusiasm are valuable skills that I want to pass onto others. This is my motivation for pursuing a career in teaching and I feel that I have a lot to offer young people.

Hi there, I'm Katie! I'm a graduate from the University of Michigan-Flint with a degree in English. With every session I bring a deep level of knowledge about writing and literature and combine it with proper teaching techniques. English can be a boring and uninteresting subject for students, so it's my goal to not only help build skills in the subject but to also make it fun. I want my students to always be curious and to never be afraid to ask a question. We all learn at our own pace, and with lots of practice comes lots of improvement! When I'm not tutoring you can find me reading, writing, playing video games, and cheering on my sister at lacrosse games. I look forward to working with you!
I am a lifelong learner, and I hope to share that mindset while tutoring. I believe that any subject can be interesting as long as your approach it with an open, optimistic mind.
Surrounded by a beautiful garden, a tranquil water fountain sings in the background as I lounge in the warm Iranian air sipping coffee. Some days, I savor the quiet atmosphere of this tiny oasis, yet on other days, I relish the company of my German-speaking friends as we linger at the caf eating my favorite, cold German potato salad, bantering for hours about culture and politics. Absorbed in my work as a dentist in a flourishing practice, I craved a new opportunity to challenge my mind and grow. At first, learning to speak German was a way to communicate with an innovator in dentistry that I admired and one day hoped to meet, Professor, Gotz Siebert of Germany. However, daily studies for over a year turned into more than a professional and creative outlet, it became a way to connect with people in my life and the world. But before my restless energy discovered a love for German language, I was an enthusiastic dental student. Born into a family of physicians, my interest in healthcare came naturally. However, my grandparents' influence had the biggest impact on my passion for learning. As a boy, I spent much of my time with my grandparents. Both compassionate nurturers, they cared for me and taught valuable life lessons. Retired from the U.S. Embassy in Iran, my grandparents had witnessed a swift shift in political climate during the Iranian Revolution and the country's upheaval of many educational freedoms. From this, bloomed a lesson that instilled my intense passion for learning. And with this passion, I discovered an interest in dentistry after watching my sister's life-changing transformation from orthodontic treatment. As a high achieving student, I was easily accepted into dental school, which was one of the best times of my life. I learned from experts and was challenged by professors who gave me a chance to assist with research that spawned the writing of three additional papers and molded my career trajectory. In partnership with two fellow dental students, I took on a project to create Iran's first system for treatment of cleft lip and palate that became highly regarded as a standard by the Iranian's Ministry of Health. While this was a major accomplishment, I continued to advance my scholarly contributions to the field with additional papers and the translation of a book on fixed prosthodontics. Over the course of dental school, I developed a fascination with complex aesthetic and orthodontic dentistry that involved the relationship between bone structures, teeth, and gums as well as a drive to continue building my proficiency. After graduating in the top 1%, I spent the first two years of my career completing my obligations with the government as a military dentist. By the time I fulfilled my service, I was also managing my own private practice. Responsible for making decisions and caring for my patients challenged me to ensure the best outcome for patients. But, as my practice grew, so did the complexity of my cases. Although I was a visiting scholar for one-month in oral and maxillofacial surgery and attended residency seminars in orthodontics, I realized that many of my patients needed more advanced dental care that I had yet to master. Wanting to expand my learning, particularly in implants and full-mouth rehabilitation of the teeth and gums, I visited a colleague in the U.S. For three months, I assisted with treatments, learned about technology, and observed the profession. Excited about what I could achieve in the U.S., I applied for a post-doctoral program. As a post-doctoral student in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan, I have diversified my background in dentistry and patient management skills through the Hospital Elder Life Program. In addition to assisting with patient treatments and attending lectures with residents, I am conducting research. I am the co-author of a study on sonography for periodontal tissue imaging and another on maxillary sinus elevation. I am also conducting a review on the stability of occlusion in class-3 malocclusion. This post-doctoral program has been a great opportunity for me to explore dentistry in more depth and has enhanced my inquiry skills as they relate to my future goals.
