I am a future law student currently taking a gap year. I graduated from UNCG with a B.S in Economics and a minor in Business and Pre-Law. I am currently doing this in addition to working another part-time job so I apologize in advance for any scheduling issues. While I have not tutored professionally before I lead study groups throughout High School and College. I tend to focus first on the critical thinking and problem solving behind a subject and then start focusing on individual problems.

As an experienced educator and tutor for about 10 years, I believe in finding different ways to teach. This includes guiding students on how to think for themselves, while also monitoring their own thinking. I focus on giving power back to the student. A few areas in which I excel include: really getting to know people and their interests, using student interests during lessons, strong problem-solving, general organization, different ways to teach most subjects, and student engagement. My teaching degree is from UNC Greensboro in reading and math for grades 6-9. I also hold a Master's Degree in School Administration that I earned in 2020. In the leadership roles that I have had at my schools, I trained countless teachers in math, reading, writing, speaking, science, and social studies topics in grades K-5 for about 3 years. I have also taught and tutored students in topics ranging from grades K-9.

I am a graduate from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education, as well as a minor and concentration in Psychology. I also earned my Associated in Arts from Forsyth Technical Community College. I have worked in education for the last 8 years. I worked as both a substitute teacher for the first 3 years in grades K-8, as well as 4 years as a 4th grade teacher, and 1 year as a 3rd grade teacher. I am passionate about helping students because I know the difference that extra time and attention can make in a scholars self confidence and success! There are people who have supported my education, and I want to be able to pass that along as well. I have found that the fun of education is finding new and creative ways to learn and review concepts. Learning is more than just skill drill, it's learning games, and real life application of ideas. I enjoy finding ways to bring difficult concepts alive as we explore them in exciting and innovative ways. My favorite subject to tutor is math. Though concepts may seem tricky in math, there is always at least one more way we can view a problem, and the joy is learning which way to solve a problem will work best for each scholar. This is the area which I have spent the most time supporting scholars in during my career as a classroom teacher. Our scholars are the next generation, and I am blessed to be able to play a part in helping them develop the critical thinking and reasoning skills that will help them to be successful as they grow. In my spare time I enjoy going to the park with my daughter and puppy, finding and trying out new dinner recipes, crafting, and reading novels.

My background is in Athletic Training. I have a bachelors degree and a masters degree in AT. My love of sports and for the human body has led me down this path. I am a current college professor teaching a wide variety of courses in health, anatomy and physiology, and exercise science. I have recently gone on to continue my education and just completed my doctoral degree in kinesiology. I teach college students primarily but do have experience teaching middle school age students through an anatomy camp each summer. I also have 3 children in elementary school in which I am probably overly involved in their learning. As far as my teaching style goes, I love to present information in multiple ways. I often look for youtube videos on content that students don't understand, and use them instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. I also like to use images, both labeled and unlabeled. Often times it takes hearing something more than once for it to be remembered and my goal is to provide repetition but in a way that it not so repetitive. I also encourage my students to teach me. If you can act like the teacher than you know the content. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling around and showing my kids different historic sites and National Parks. I think one can learn a lot when traveling and it is one way I like to teach my own children about our world, culture, country, and even math. I'm a former soccer player turned soccer mom now, but I love all sports. Because I teach anatomy, health, and exercise science, many of my students are athletes so I am able to use sports to teach concepts. We can learn from the world around us, we just need a little encouragement to get started.

I am passionate to help students improve in their reading. I enjoy reading and want to help others be able to enjoy and understand what they read. It is important to me to help students build their confidence in reading to feel more confident in themself and their academic ability. As a result of improvement in reading, students may feel confident in sharing what they read with others. Improving reading may also allow students to discuss current topics and have more knowledge about common interests through reading and comprehending what the student is interested in.I have experience working with students in third grade as a reading intervention teacher during the 2014-2015 school year. Students read aloud and I followed along to make sure they said the words correctly as they read. I also asked comprehension questions while the students read to make sure they were understanding what they read. More recently, I have been a substitute teacher, and help students with their subject areas. To do this, I ask students how they are doing. I also ask what they need help with.During my senior year in high school, I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award by leading literacy tutoring at the Boys and Girls club. I had a student read and answer the questions that I asked. Students that I worked with did great at reading and answering questions from the literacy book.I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in special education (K-12) and elementary education (K-6) from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The subject I tutor is in reading. Reading is my favorite subject to tutor, because I feel it comes easy to me and can be interesting to learn from what the student is reading. There are always more books that can be read and knowledge can be gained from the book.I believe a teacher needs to have high expectations for the student and care for the student. The teacher needs to be dedicated to guide the student to understand what is taught. At the same time, the student needs to be dedicated to work with the teacher and persevere to understand and improve in education. Teaching is a two-way street, a give and take. The teacher and student must work together. It is not just one side that needs to put in effort for the student to understand what they are learning. My tutoring style is providing differentiated instruction. If a student struggles to understand, then I think about and implement another way to help the student understand the content. I may ask the student a question or explain to the student verbally. I may also show the student in writing what I am trying to explain this way the student may understand better verbally or through writing.Outside of academics, I enjoy going for a walk, listening to music, knitting and chatting with friends.

I am a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation. I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Winston-Salem State University. I have 2.5 years of tutoring experience. Most of my experience involves the subject of math (middle and elementary-level math, etc), though I have also tutored students in writing and literacy. Being a visual learner myself, I use the method of demonstration throughout tutoring sessions. It's one thing to hear a concept repeatedly. However, I find that taking a more hands-on approach not only dives deeper into concepts but also keeps students more engaged with the material being taught.

My BA is is Theatre with a Minor in Math mostly obtained as a former Engineering Student, so I bring my communication skills and adaptability as a student of theatre with advanced skills and knowledge in mathematics. It is my fundamental belief that everyone is capable of succeeding in math, but too many are written off early (and thus write themselves off) as not having aptitude. It is my goal to bring encouragement and support to students in order to revitalize their appreciation for math, and to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in all manner of academics.

Teaching and singing are my passions; training and coaching public speakers and performing artists my expertise. I grew up with a musician and a frequent public speaker for parents, ending up with strong talents in both. I enjoy telling people, "I majored in talking and enjoy a career as a vocalist, which is basically talking with notes and rhythms attached!" Studying communication gave me a solid foundation for engaging with and listening to the (often unspoken) needs of others. I get great joy from helping others reach their goals and overcome their presentation fears which often block their success. I believe every person has the capacity to learn and grow skills at any pinnacle of life. My philosophy includes the strong belief that gentle honesty is the kindest offering to be given to anyone, particular to persons putting themselves up for public scrutiny or digest as performing artists or public speakers. My motto is "I'm here to believe in you and help you improve.

I used to be a failure. I was not good at math and I was not (truly) good at any of the sciences. I did not know how to learn at all and I would forget everything I learn in 2 months. People would call me smart but I would feel like a complete fraud. I stuck that fact deep inside my mind so that I can always remember that I was never anything special. However, I turned that fact into strength! It did not matter whether others outpaced me. It did not matter whether someone understood it better than I did. All I had to do was defeat myself; the part of my identity that kept me from my dreams. This is my teaching philosophy. I believe everyone is the same way. Seeing true results can not happen over night. Like exercise, learning requires discipline, and with daily effort, leads to powerful results. I would rebuild foundations so that nothing would collapse along the way. This has been my method of study since my graduation from Forsyth Technical Community College with my Associates in Arts. As a Computer Science Major at University of Greensboro at North Carolina, I learned quickly that caring about correct answers is not enough. I have to be the math itself. I believe working from the philosophical end via mathematical logic then working up to higher math is the path for success in the field. As one may suspect, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the Natural Sciences are my prime interests (and the subjects I tutor). They carry big importance to me because I have the goals of developing my own computerized agricultural, health analytic, and photovoltaic system. These goals can only be possible by studying their related fields. I spread this knowledge through my history of interacting with students as a Computer Science lab instructor. I would guide students through their java assignments and refresh key concepts that would be important for their success. In addition, I helped underprivileged students at a local high school in their mathematics and science classes, in hopes that they too will see its uses. To conclude, I truly enjoy teaching. I want to spread the importance the sciences have on our lives and I want everyone to succeed. So hopefully, I will have an opportunity to share my passions soon (through tutoring of course)!

At our school, I tutor Kindergarten students in reading and Math two times a week, to help get them where they need to be. While I tutor math and reading, I am most passionate about reading. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, and know that just that extra boost can truly make an impact on them. I am a true believer that all students can learn, all children learn differently and it is our job to make sure that we learn the best way to teach them what they need to know for the years ahead of them.

My highest honor is winning UNCG's 2024 English Excellence Award for my superior academic achievement in the Rhetoric and Public Advocacy minor. While my awards demonstrate my dedication to academic success, my time at UNCG's Writing Center demonstrates my dedication to the success of others. I completed an intensive 5-month practicum learning the history and methodology of teaching before completing a year as a Writing Center Consultant and Writing Center Student Mentor. During this time, I had the privilege of working with students from all backgrounds, life situations, and skill levels. Helping students overcome personal challenges, find success in their studies, and, ultimately, build their confidence, quickly became one of the biggest joys in my life. My philosophy is to meet students right where they are with compassion and understanding, regardless of their circumstances, and help them grow as both students and people. I also believe in the establishment of mutual respect and responsibility between tutors and their students. I do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status. I know that I couldn't have achieved what I did, or overcome the numerous significant personal obstacles I did, without the support of my wonderful professors and student success coaches. I have taught all English Language Arts subjects at the high school level (literature and composition), and I am also certified to teach ESOL students, and have done so throughout my career. Perhaps my favorite topic to teach is writing, and I am a firm believer that everyone has a writing voice and style to cultivate, even if they tend to struggle in this area. I have taught in public education as well as private education venues, and have tutored one-on-one as well as small groups at the high school and college levels. I have even tutored in Spain! I also find that a more casual setting increases students' willingness to learn and their ability to retain material. Basically, I hope that everyone who deserves to receive quality education will have the opportunity to enjoy that.In this information overloading era, too often we don't lack access to information. Rather, what we lack is the skill to weed out noises, lies, and falsehoods from all the information available to us. Knowing this, in my teaching practice, I try my best to inculcate a critical thinking method in my students so that they can achieve lifetime learning on their own. I will teach students how to gather information and evaluate the voracity of it, and how to apply good information to solve a problem.
