Hello! My name is Alicia. I am a Classics PhD student currently residing in New Jersey. In addition to my 10 years experience in Latin, I have taught college level Latin courses. I also write well (I passed the AP Lit and Comp exam with a 5) and my grammar is great!

I have over 15 years teaching Arizona real estate Pre-licensing and Broker classes. I have taught all the required 90 hours of schooling in order to obtain a real estate license. Additionally, I have been a Adjunct Professor with the Mesa Community College teaching real estae and appraisal classes. Additional teaching experience includes substitute teaching for Mesa and Apache Junction school districts.This teaching experience coupled with a strong desire to assist people in obtaining their real estate license makes me a willing partner in your career.

I am a highly skilled tutor with a great deal of experience in Social Studies, History, and English. I teach by, most of all, making the subject appealing and exciting to learn about. We learn things so much faster when we are actually intrigued about the subject. I think encouraging that first step is crucial, and it helps these lessons become ones that we remember years after their first introduction.Alongside the motivational factor, it helps to know that, if you are terrible at taking tests, that is totally okay! Not every personality type connects with tests well, and I try to explain to my students some tricks they can use to make tests or assessments less intimidating. Reading a test can sometimes feel like learning a second language, and I emphasize that, not only is understanding it doable, but it IS possible to own it and make it approachable in a way that works personally with you. This makes every test afterward much less psychologically taxing and, oftentimes, that is the biggest hurdle students face in this day and age.

I am a graduate of the University of Puget Sound. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Politics and Government. I started tutoring with the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society while in college. Subjects that I tutored included calculus, chemistry (AP and introductory), organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry. I particularly enjoy tutoring introductory chemistry because I find that the broad range of topics covered offers many different opportunities to find chemistry examples in everyday life! I think that to love and understand any subject, it's important to see examples of it in everyday activities; it can be very difficult to wrap your head around complex concepts when you're using complex examples, and I aim to simplify. Outside my studies, I love hiking in the Alpine Wilderness, climbing, reading, and watching many movies.

I believe in teaching to the student and building up from there. My current job as a learning specialist with learning impaired and at-risk students has shown me that engaging a student on their level helps lay a solid foundation for progress. Working one-on-one enables me to taylor my lessons and approach to the individual in a way that ensures positive growth and eventually tangible results. I love working with young minds who have the potential to exceed expectations.

I'm a physics student soon to be electrical engineering student with a strong background in physics and math. I enjoy being a resource for those looking to learn. My main passions are for sustainability and renewable energy technology.

I graduated with honors from the University of the Puget Sound, majoring in English and creative writing. As a writing advisor at my colleges writing center, I tutored over a hundred different students from diverse writing backgrounds in all stages of the writing process. I believe that dialogue and interaction are the most effective ways to teach and learn, both through implicit and explicit methods. I tutor so that students will understand why and how a concept functions, and then be able to organize it and analyze its different parts. My strongpoints as a tutor are in writing, but I also have a strong math background and love teaching all forms of math up to the high school level. I enjoy gardening and biking, and I also work for a local nonprofit.

I discovered a love for instruction and tutoring while working at Four Winds Westward Ho, a summer camp on Orcas Island. I was lucky enough to interact and teach campers of all ages, and continued to explore teaching at school. More often than not I found myself helping friends and fellow classmates with papers and general questions about the texts we covered in class. I hope to share my passion and knowledge with other students of all ages through Varsity Tutors.In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, running, and playing video games.

Much of my work experience has been with students ranging from elementary to college age. I have had experience directly in elementary school classrooms working with small groups and individuals to improve reading, writing, and math skills.I am most passionate about humanistic studies and explored a variety of these subjects in college. I have seven years of teaching experience, ranging from middle school students to college seniors.Before law school, I received a double major in Economics and Political Theory from the University of Puget Sound. During college, I tutored high school students for four years. After college, I worked for three years as a college instructor and debate coach at two universities in Washington state.My teaching philosophy is based primarily on my 11 years of debate experience as a competitor and coach. My goal is to find the right way to communicate any concept to you. My approach is calm and patient, but engaging.

I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Arts in both International Business and Studio Art. I spent several years traveling internationally before coming back to pursue an AAS in Paramedicine. I am currently enrolled in the program at OHSU here in Portland. My experience teaching is wide-spread and varied. I have done everything from teaching English in Thailand to 8th and 9th graders to teaching college-level EMT classes. Including coaching positions, I have approximately 7 years teaching experience. My experiences have taught me that every person learns differently and that the key to successful learning comes from a mutual understanding of a given pupil's ideal academic style. To this end, I try hard to find an approach that is tailored to the student's cognitive needs. I am comfortable tutoring the sciences (especially Anatomy and Physiology), math, French, the arts, literature, and essay writing. I really "geek-out" on biology and A&P because it never ceases to amaze me that the delicate and precise mechanisms that drive our existence came about purely through a long process of statistical expression and deletion of traits. Whenever I manage to remove my self from my studies, I try to get outdoors to enjoy our beautiful Northwest. I live for activities such as skiing, kayaking, and climbing. When I can't make it that far, I'll settle for soccer or waterpolo.

I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor's of Art in Sociology, and from Northcentral University with a Master's in Education. I have been teaching math and coaching football in Fort Worth for the past 8 years. My favorite part of teaching is helping student realize their potential. I believe in a growth mindset and high expectations. At my current school, I specialize in teaching the group of students who failed their 8th grade End of Course exam; I take this group and use high expectations and great relationships to help them pass their 9th grade Algebra 1 STAAR. Over each of the last three years we have improved our scores and put these students on track for a good math experience the rest of their high school career.Personally, I think that math is beautiful. We often overlook the wonderful patterns and relationships in mathematics and how they relate to the real world; I hope we can work together soon!In my free time I enjoy being with my wife and our daughter. We love to travel and go hiking.

Growing up my mind was filled with questions. Why was the ocean salty but not the Great Lakes? How much does the earth weigh? Although these constant inquiries drove my parents crazy, they ultimately led me to study the Sciences. I could not wait to study Science in high school and hurried home the first day to start reading my textbooks. But there was a problem. The textbooks were not exciting at all. They were also barely comprehensible. Science was taught in a language I did not initially understand. As your tutor, I can help translate the language of Science to one you can understand and master. I can also teach you useful study habits and techniques that will help you succeed in a competitive academic environment. Using real life examples, acronyms, and good study hygiene will make science classes easier than you ever imagined!I developed these study habits and techniques while earning my Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Puget Sound (Seattle). I graduated summa cum laude and was awarded honors in my major. I am a certified tutor in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology. I became a tutor to teach students the tricks I learned and to spend more time with the subjects I love!
