Get the expert help you need with from a former educational publishing executive that launched THE nation's leading English Language Arts and Literature programs while working at the world's largest publishing companies (Holt, Harcourt, Reed Elsevier) combined with eight (8) years of reviewing tens of thousands of GRE and ACT essays (yes, literally--nearly 100,000 such essays, if not more), not to mention invaluable experience as a high school English teacher focusing on composition, which is how I started my career.

Hello tutoring community!First, I will start with a little bit about my educational background.I am a recent graduate of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Psychology. In addition, I am a nationally registered paramedic, who has passed both the EMT and Paramedic level nationally registry exams.Currently, I work as paramedic for North Memorial Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As your tutor, I hope to share with you my knowledge in the areas stated above, and give you some tips and study techniques to pass your classes and exams. My knowledge is very fresh and tested on a daily basis through my work as a paramedic. I plan to give my students real world examples that will help them in their science and medical oriented classes. Finally, as a recent student myself, I understand that finding an education and social life balance is difficult. However, this balance is important to keeping stress levels down and grades up. I strive to tutor efficiently and effectively. In my spare time, I value my time spent outdoors hiking and watching some of my favorite streaming shows or movies. I am excited to learn together in this tutoring opportunity.
I am a graduate of Augustana College, where I received a Bachelor's degree, as well as Northwestern University, where I received a Master's of Science. After graduation, I worked as a research assistant at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I have had experience in tutoring college-aged and adult students in the fields of research methods, Philosophy of Mind, and writing. I have also given informal instruction to friends with regards to math, coding, and preparation for standardized tests. I am especially interested in tutoring for Python coding, math, and test prep. As a self-taught coder, I am especially excited to see other people succeed in the field of Python. As somebody who had to learn to love math, I am excited to see students understand the workings of mathematics. Finally, as somebody who has been taking standardized tests since grade school, I enjoy helping others understand the workings of standardized tests and the skills (both academic and personal) needed to succeed at them. My teaching approach emphasizes flexibility and empathy; I firmly believe that there are always multiple ways of reaching the same solution, and I recognize that students may have different educational foundations. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, coding, and re-learning how to play the piano.
I am a graduate of Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts in Geology and Environmental Studies with a minor in Mathematics. While at my undergrad, I often worked with elementary and middle school students, teaching basic science concepts and attempting to inspire and interest in all types of science and learning. I achieved my Master of Science degree in Geosciences with a concentration in Paleontology from East Tennessee State University. My research focused on Ice Age mammoth dynamics and paleobiological patterns. After my Master's I worked with the National Park Service in Alaska backpacking across remote national parks including Katmai, Bering Land Bridge, and Kobuk Valley completing field work and reports for the park service. I tutor a wide variety of subjects and am most passionate about natural sciences, math, and ArcGIS. I've always enjoyed prepping for standardized tests (ACT, GRE) and hope to help all my students reach score beyond their targets. I believe there is no single correct way to go about learning and I strive to uncover the methods that work best for each student. I enjoy teaching students of all ages, and my methods are tailored to the age and level of each student. Outside of academia, I love photography, playing basketball, and watching movies/TV shows (big Marvel fan).
I am a certified K-12 educator, musician, and artist with a passion for teaching and helping others. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education/Jazz Studies from Augustana College. I currently work as a 5th-8th grade teacher during the day with teaching licenses in two states. I teach private music lessons to 4th-12th grade students on all concert band instruments and offer music theory/music education tutoring. I have been tutoring test prep for the past year on all levels of the ISEE, SSAT, ACT, and HSPT. I also tutor students in English and reading along with general homework help. Since I am certified in two states to teach K-12 students, I work well with students of all ages. I work especially well with upper elementary and middle school students because those are the students I teach most frequently. I love teaching these middle ages because it is important to grow academically and personally during this time as the students start to become aware of who they are and who they want to become. As a school teacher, I love watching students grow and achieve their goals. While music is my specialty, I am an effective and positive tutor in test prep and reading subjects. I teach with a playful and relaxing style that helps students take control of their own learning while providing a comfortable environment to learn and grow.
I'm confident, energetic, and fun. I have a background in Elementary Education and was a teacher for five years before I started homeschooling my own children. I have background knowledge from Kindergarten to 8th grade. I want to help your child succeed this year. I have worked as a private tutor and with companies and always have success with my students. Please let help your child be successful.
Interested in helping students improve their math and reading skills.
I enjoy teaching and tutoring because I enjoy working with kids, and I love to have a part in seeing them do things they weren't able to do before. As a lifelong teacher that has been my reward. I have been teaching for a many years and am certified to teach in elementary, middle and high schools. I prefer working one-on-one or with small groups. When I start getting to know my students I want to know them as the unique persons they are. Then I want to know what learning needs they have so together we can set goals and work on them. When I can I like to use games and give challenges. We have as much fun as we can while making the efforts needed for learning. Kids, parents and I will partner together so we can each do our part so kids can be successful. I have a BA in biology from Augustana College, a MS in Education from Illinois State University and further coursework at Northern Illinois University. Besides teaching in Illinois and California my experience includes years in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. During the last three years I was teaching English online to Chinese students. Subjects I can teach are elementary level subjects, especially math (up to pre-algebra), science, English and reading. I also can teach high school biology. When I'm not teaching I enjoy doing things outdoors, especially camping and fishing. I also like to make music by singing and playing my harmonica.
I have been an English teacher for 25 years. I have also co-taught in social studies and science classrooms. I have a Master's in Education & Curriculum, a Master's in Educational Leadership, and a Master's in Literacy Education. I have worked as an Illinois state-certified high school reading specialist for the past several years. My daily classes involve working with struggling readers as well as preparing students for the reading portion of the PSAT/SAT/ACT tests. I also have extensive experience teaching students how to read text for information (non-fiction) and take effective notes on material.
My professional life has been spent helping young people reach their full potential in the fields of mathematics and physics. I am a full-time high-school teacher with nearly 20 years of experience. With a friendly and patient demeanor, I believe my tutoring will help build confidence and a strong academic foundation in struggling students.
