I have been tutoring for seven years, and from my experience, I have learned that you can truly get students to love subjects if you can break them down and explain them simply. My favourite part of tutoring students is when they come to me after a few weeks of math lessons and tell me that, suddenly, math in school isn't so boring and difficult anymore, and that they are really starting to enjoy their classes in school. I work with a range of resources including the Barron's Prep Books, EarthComm textbooks, and my self-made prep materials.My passion is in literacy education. I have worked with students from as young as Kindergarten through the college level in reading with fluency and a critical/analytical eye. This has lended me naturally into a writing tutor, allowing me to coach my students into becoming stronger writers.In working with students at the elementary level, I have also had the opportunity to explore Common Core expectations in ELA and Mathematics. Many of my students utilize Singapore Math, Go Math, Math in Focus, Eureka Math, or Prentice Hall Math curriculums, and I have developed quite a familiarity with these texts.Though I work with high school students in the classroom, my experience tutoring has predominantly focused on K - 6. With my familiarity with Common Core and Common Core aligned texts and my sincere interest in finding the right "style" of learning for each unique child, I have found great joy and success in working with students in elementary school.I look forward to meeting your family and your student and working together to help your child realize their fullest, brightest potential!

Hi! I received a BA in history from Brandeis University and an MS from Columbia in Nutrition. I love reading and studying history, but my true passion is medicine. I currently work as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and am in the process of applying to medical school.I first started tutoring fellow students in high school. In college I helped fifth graders at the local public school after school with their homework. I have experience with a broad age range and I enjoy the differences in approach that each student demands. I believe that a tutor must have patience. This allows students to work at their own pace as they find the approach that works for them.In my free time I love reading historical fiction novels, watching TV (especially baseball), taking my dog to the dog park, playing basketball.

My name is Valcourt and I am currently doing my masters in International Economics and Finance at Brandeis University. I have been tutoring for the past 5 years and always enjoyed it. When I am not at school, I enjoy to play chess and watch sports and play basketball.

Currently I am a MA/MS student at Brandeis University's Heller School of Social Policy. I graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a double major in International Studies and Spanish and a double minor in Geology and History. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia from January 2012-2014 as a grade 5-9 English teacher in an underprivileged school. After school, I led twice weekly test prep sessions for 9th grade. These prep classes covered topics in English, Civics, Geometry, Algebra 1 and Geography. In addition to teaching and conducting test prep, I also individually tutored elementary students in reading and phonics, and led weekly adult literacy classes.I am a great tutor because I genuinely care about my students. Also, I have the patience, ingenuity and compassion to help the student improve in the subject they are struggling with. For example, the year prior to my arrival at the school, only 5% of the 9th grade passed on to 10th grade. However, the following year, thanks to our prep classes and the students dedication, 85% of the students passed. This dramatic improvement proves my ability to help students achieve in the classroom.

I have been passionate about helping students my entire life, as I grew up helping care for my disabled twin brother, I saw firsthand how important access to education is from a young age. Since then, I have devoted my time to my two passions, medicine, and education. I am currently in school obtaining a combination B.S. and Masters Degree in Biology, with a minor in Education. I love all the subjects that I tutor, and my favorite aspect of tutoring is watching a student's understanding of a challenging subject grow. My teaching philosophy is that each individual student will learn best with an individualized plan. Outside of academia, I work as a 911 EMT.
