I am a physician and medical educator with extensive experience helping students prepare for exams, including certification exams, and completing course work in the health professions. I received my undergraduate degree in neuroscience and biology from Brandeis University in 2009 and my MD from Boston University in 2014. I matched into a competitive general surgery residency, but left to pursue teaching full time. Most of my time has been with paramedic students, but I've worked with students from all areas of medicine and outside medicine. What draws me to teaching is the opportunity to work closely with a student to build both their understanding of a subject and confidence in their abilities; nothing is as rewarding as that moment when a difficult subject "clicks" for a student! I primarily tutor in the life and biomedical sciences, and physiology is probably my favorite subject to teach (it's so complex and fascinating!), though I do love pharmacology and basic biology, as well. I am a sophomore at Brandeis University working towards a combined B.A./M.A. in mathematics and a B.S. in physics. I have been tutoring for seven years, and from my experience, I have learned that you can truly get students to love subjects if you can break them down and explain them simply. I am currently a PhD student in high energy theoretical physics at New York University, with research interests in quantum gravity and holography. I have also helped my students in the past with reviewing calculus, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and other more advanced areas of mathematics as they appear in physics. From having taught and tutored mathematics and physics in the past, I have found that solving problems is absolutely essential to learning the material. So, during tutoring sessions I dedicate a substantial amount of time to solving problems based around the material covered. Physics and mathematics lectures tend to lean more theoretical in nature, so I believe that tutoring should serve as a practical supplement to the otherwise dense and theoretical lectures. Of course, I also see the value in having theoretical-style lectures, and enjoy teaching those. However, especially for students who are just beginning to learn physics and mathematics, seeing many MANY worked examples is crucial to internalizing the material. Moreover, having these tutoring sessions be interactive, where I can ask the students questions and they can ask me questions, seems to intellectually stimulate students far more than if I were just talking to them. Outside of academia, I enjoy exercise, training jiu jitsu and muay thai, reading, listening to music, and spending time with my family. As of late, my reading mostly consists of Christian theology (Thomas Aquinas and the various Ancient Church Fathers) and 20th century history.

I am a passionate, practiced teacher who wishes to help students reach their full potential. Using empathy and listening, I assess student needs and create a custom learning plan for each client. I hold a doctorate from Brandeis University and have taught in both high school and collegiate settings.
