I am a graduate of Canisius College with a degree in Chemistry and Northwestern University with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. I am passionate about helping mentor the next generation STEM students, with my favorite subject being chemistry. I first developed my interest in education during college where I worked for a science summer camp and also performed chemistry outreach events at local schools. I am frequently disappointed when I hear people get turned off from science because it is too difficult, complex, and abstract. For me, science is exciting and I want to help students feel that way too.

Outside of my tutoring work, I've enjoyed working with children and have aided in their mental and emotional development as a caregiver for many years. I am an aunt to over 13 nieces and nephews, so I have no trouble with being patient and creating a supportive environment. I'm also very creative and willing to show your child how fun learning can be. I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!

My journey in the field of higher education spans three years, during which I have not only excelled as an IT professional but also engaged with incoming students and trained faculty and staff on various computer-related applications. I am passionate about technology and its potential to enhance learning and productivity. I believe that effective training and support can empower individuals to navigate the digital landscape confidently. As a passionate educator with a Doctorate in Executive Education Leadership from St. John Fisher University, I am committed to nurturing a profound understanding of physics and mathematics in my students. With over 2 years of tutoring experience, I specialize in high school and college-level physics and math subjects, including all levels of physics and various calculus courses. My teaching philosophy centers on breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and I strive to create a supportive learning environment where they feel empowered to tackle challenging material. My enthusiasm for physics and math extends beyond the classroom; I enjoy exploring new educational methodologies and engaging with students to ignite their curiosity and passion for STEM subjects. As Walter Lewin, an MIT physics professor, once said, "If you do not make physics fun, you are a criminal."
Hi, I'm Laura. I am the daughter of two English teachers who grew up extensively reading and writing. I am a huge science nerd, but in general a knowledge nerd. I have a formal education in Biology, with a Doctorate degree (DDS) in dental surgery. Through my training I mastered the subjects of biology, earth science, microbiology, anatomy, pharmacology, chemistry, etc. my college education was at a liberal arts school, Canisius College, where I graduated cum laude. In that coursework I pursued history, literature, philosophy, and world religions. I love teaching and am very patient and able to tailor lessons to the students individual needs. I understand what it means to be a visual learner, and how hard that can be when a professor only lectures. This is something that I had to overcome in my studies, and really enjoy helping other students not only master their subjects, but also enabling them to perceive and receive information so that they can absorb the knowledge and perform well when tested. When this is done, confidence is boosted, and it's all uphill from there.
I am looking forward to working with students again! I was a teacher/tutor for several years before beginning my family 2 years ago. My husband and I recently had twin girls and then a little boy so I have taken a break from the 9-5 scene for a bit. I miss teaching and working with students and I am excited to get back into the world of education. Helping students understand different topics in math (specifically) is my passion and I look forward to working with new students to help them gain confidence and comfort with any areas they are seeking help with.
Dedicated, resourceful and passionate education professional with an accomplished and verifiable career (20+ years) promoting quality education in the capacities of College Professor, Training Specialist, Adult Education Teacher, Department Chair, Consultant and NY State Court Certified Interpreter/Translator.My favorite subjects are Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access. (I'm a Microsoft certified specialist/trainer/examiner.)I also have Mandarin and Math teaching/tutoring experience with both adult and young learners.
I Love Tutoring Because of the type of students I interact with. Many of the students I have worked with have not had an easy experience with math. Math can be easy if you take the correct approach to the subject. Each student is at a different point in their math career and the concepts they have learned. Meeting them halfway allows me to help fill in the gaps they need to be successful with their current concept. I like the feeling that when a student walks away after a tutoring session they use the skills they learned to help find success.

Although the students I work with have been successful, that is no guarantee of success. It is important that all the students I work with understand that if they are dedicated and willing to do the work, the chances for success improve greatly. I look forward to working with you all.
