I strongly believe with practice and confidence, a student can master anything they want. As a tutor, I have a passion for helping students overcome initial mental hurdles and progress. This requires having some fun with the material as a motive for practice, and with practice comes confidence. At Carleton College, where I received a B.A in Mathematics, I tutored students in Math, led introductory Spanish classes as a TA, and taught Rock Climbing classes as a hobby. Now, back in my hometown of Boston, I tutor students in the Sciences, Math, Computer Science, and Spanish.

I'm a freshman Economics and Math double major at Carleton College. I specialize in ACT Prep and various other economics courses prep. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, and listening to music. I look forward to working with you!
I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students.Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics tests, that wasn't what mattered most to me. I wanted to share my excitement and love for math and physics. The most important results for me were seeing students get excited about physics, and start doing their own exploring. Test scores come and go, but attitude and enthusiasm are forever.
I graduated valedictorian of my class of 300 from Waukesha West High School with a 36 on my ACT and 11 "5"s on various AP tests. While at West, I competed nationally in Academic Decathlon while setting state records in Economics and Mathematics. Now, I am pursuing a Math/Stats & Computer Science B.A. at Carleton College. I love learning and helping others learn, and I live for those "ah-ha!" moments, both the ones I experience myself and those I experience through others.
My name is Eric McGregor. I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biochemistry. I am very passionate about helping others, and as such, I am hoping to pursue a career as a professor. I believe that everyone can understand any subject in school. It is a matter of time and viewpoint. Sometimes all it takes is a little extra time or to hear a concept explained from another angle for material to click. I hope to help students along their path as lifelong learners.
My passion for tutoring stems from my experience as a TA, where I discovered that effective teaching goes beyond just delivering content; it's about building relationships and instilling confidence in students. With over two years of tutoring experience in math and computer science, I focus on fostering an interactive learning environment where students actively engage with the material. I believe in the power of practice over passive learning, guiding students to identify their challenges and develop effective study habits. As a National Merit Scholar, I've honed my own test-taking strategies, which I enjoy sharing for SAT prep as well. I'm excited to support you on your academic journey!
I love working with students of all sorts and especially love finding ways to make complex information more understandable. I have taught English and History as well as tutored the SAT/ACT for many years. I can help you edit your essays, read materials that are challenging, and yes, I do math too! I'm especially happy to help you with SAT/ACT math and word problems.
I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in mathematics. Since then, I've worked for a number of health technology companies as a business analyst, usually helping to bridge the communications gap between programming staff and end users with clear documentation and presentations. I was also a theater nerd in high school and college, and (with my wife) developed and co-taught an elementary/middle school theater program for our neighborhood school. I've been a private tutor in mathematics for a number of years, working with local families on a handful of subjects, mostly pre-calculus and calculus. My favorite part of tutoring is helping my students to see that one little insight that can unlock the whole of the subject or lesson, and helping them pick the right tool or method to get a good answer.
I am currently a sophomore studying Psychology and German at Carleton College. I have experience working with high school students helping them do homework in various subjects, but I would love to expand my experiences with tutoring and focus on teaching elementary and middle schoolers. I love to write, horseback ride, draw, and my favorite subjects include English, Psychology, Spanish, German, and Biology! I am looking forward to tutoring students in a variety of Elementary School level subjects.
My name is Madeline and I'm currently a PhD student in microbiology! I love teaching and making concepts "click." I've worked in biology labs for many years so have great experience to make concepts applicable to the real world. Science should be fun and rewarding, and I do my best to make it so!
A recent graduate of Carleton College with a B.A. in economics, I am currently pursuing my M.S. in Geographic Information Science at Saint Mary's University. As a tutor in numerous subjects, my love for lifelong learning and intellectual growth has inspired me to assist others not only in understanding concepts, but finding ways to enjoy thinking about them as well. Furthermore, doing well in school can be a big boost to one's confidence, and I love seeing the benefits of such among my students.
Hi, I am a Chinese language and culture graduate with engineering experience. I enjoy working with children and teaching which leads me to take up tutoring. I am currently working part time as engineering lab technician. I have had experience tutoring children of all ages and of all backgrounds. I look forward to widening my experience by working with new students.
I want to help you learn and understand enough so that you are able to teach someone else.
I just finished my 3rd year working as a School Psychologist for a metro area school district. I am excited to tutor students of all ages in a variety of academic and test prep areas. I was raised in the U.S. and am a native English speaker with a diverse educational background. I attended preschool through 11th grade in the U.S. and received my high school (international baccalaureate) diploma from an international boarding school in Hong Kong. During college, I studied Mandarin Chinese and Korean. I completed 6 months of study abroad in South Korea. I have extensive 1:1 tutoring experience. In college, I worked as a teacher and private tutor for Korean high school students applying for US colleges. As a graduate student, I served as a reading interventionist for K-4th graders for 2 years. I have previous test prep experience as an ACT class teacher and private tutor for a national company. My most recent tutoring experience was for a high school junior in Minneapolis. We worked on homework completion, mostly for the student's Beginner Mandarin class.
I am a graduate of Carleton College and currently work as a cancer immunology researcher at MIT. My ultimate goal is to matriculate in an MD/PhD program and become a medical researcher, and I look forward to one day teaching classes of my own.My passion for teaching and tutoring began early in my college career, when I started as a teaching assistant in the Carleton Biology department my sophomore year. I helped teach introductory biology courses, genetics, cell biology and immunology to classes ranging from 30-70 students, and I tutored AP biology students at the local high school. While I have studied and tutored biology in most depth, I also have extensive classroom and tutoring experiences in math, physics and chemistry, as well as standardized tests such as the ACT and the SAT + practice tests. I firmly believe in meeting students where they are at with their understanding, and fostering a relationship of trust and openness, and I believe that this makes the process of learning much easier! Through my extensive tutoring experiences, I strongly believe I am an effective tutor.
Teaching is an opportunity to share my passion for learning while helping students build skills and confidence that will help them academically and/or artistically, and more broadly in their lives. I offer knowledge, experience, supportive challenge, and the mentorship students need to achieve their goals and potential. I encourage my students to "make it their own" by nurturing a feeling of ownership and accountability in the learning process. I feel it is important to have integrity and "walk the walk" as a teacher; thus I am committed to my own ongoing learning and development as a teaching professional.
I am a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on European history and the history of religion. I am extremely passionate about history and writing, and I have enjoyed tutoring students in these subjects for over five years. I began my journey as an educator in 2017, when I taught lessons about human rights and the history of religion to high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. I continued honing my educational skills at Carleton, where I worked as a tutor and mentor for students with learning differences. I used my deep knowledge of history and writing to help students proofread their essays, study for humanities courses, and teach them important executive functioning and study skills to help them succeed in college. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to form empathic and intentional connections with my students. By learning more about their educational backgrounds and understanding their goals, I become a better mentor who will more effectively guide them through their studies. When I am not tutoring, I like to hike, kayak, read, write, and research my family's history.
I am the President of a startup company and through that experience I have learned the importance of how to clearly convey concepts and new ideas. Using these skills and what I learned from my studies at University of Chicago's MBA program I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.
Hello! I am currently an undergraduate student at Carleton College working towards a double major in biology and statistics. My intellectual interests vary across many different subjects, but I am particularly fond of learning and teaching biology and statistics. In addition to STEM subjects, I have always harbored a love for learning new languages and especially enjoy learning and teaching Spanish. In addition to studying Spanish in school for 9 years, during high school, I took private conversation classes for Spanish with a native Spanish-speaking instructor to improve my fluency. Last summer, I had the opportunity to briefly study abroad at a Spanish school in Santiago, Chile, in a homestay program. In addition to periodically tutoring my younger brother during his school year, I currently serve as an algebra tutor for the tutoring hotline at my college. These experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of the true joys that accompany tutoring. I really enjoy watching and aiding the intellectual advancement of students over time and genuinely appreciate being a part of the milestone moments that track this advancement. My philosophy with regards to tutoring is that all students have their own specific goals and unique ways of learning, and that it is my job to recognize these different ways and adjust my instructing methods to best work with individual students and help them reach their desired goals. I strongly believe that having a solid understanding of the fundamentals is an important step in effectively clearing confusion surrounding difficult material and work hard to incorporate and build fundamental concepts in my lesson plans. In my free time, I enjoy playing my clarinet, practicing the piano, practicing aikido, reading, and going on walks with my dog.
I am a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota, and received my Bachelor's degree in History with minors in Educational Studies and Public Policy. I have eight years of experience volunteering and working with children and students from ages three to fifteen. These experiences range from teaching swimming lessons, volunteering in preschool and elementary school classrooms, working as a summer camp counselor, a volunteer tutor with middle school students, and teaching a historical research course to eighth graders for two academic school years. While I tutor in a variety of areas, I especially love tutoring in writing skills, as I enjoy helping students develop their individual voice and find their strengths in writing. I believe that education is necessary for all children, as it helps inspire a lifetime of learning. I believe everyone can be successful in school, and love helping students discover their individual learning styles and help them develop successful study methods that work well for them. While I am not tutoring, I enjoy swimming, spending time outdoors hiking or skiing, knitting, baking, and reading. I especially love reading historical fiction!
Hi my name is Reed and I am a graduate from Carleton College with a degree in Economics. I have a passion for helping students learn and achieve their academic and personal goals. At Carleton, I played Varsity Soccer, hosted a radio show, and served as an economics prefect/TA for introductory microeconomics classes. In this role, I both held classroom sessions and tutored students individually. It was rewarding to see the results of my efforts and the impact I could have on other students. I am at an expert level in many math and economics areas. The key to my process is helping you not just 'get the answer' but also understanding the process of how to get there. I want to help students of all ages and make them think and have fun while learning.
I am a doctoral student in theater history at Yale University currently living in Boston. I also hold a B.A. with honors in English Literature. I offer tutoring in elementary and middle school math, English literature, and reading comprehension; I can also offer particular expertise in writing.I am a published critic and scholar, and I currently work as an editorial assistant and proofreader. I also love teaching writing. I have worked for three years in writing intensive courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, and have also helped lead writing workshops for middle and high school students. I enjoy working with students from a wide variety of age levels and educational backgrounds. While the rules governing grammar, usage, and essay construction may appear challenging for many, I believe that, with effort and guidance, anyone can learn to write well. I enjoy helping students acquire the skills that will allow them to express themselves clearly and fluidly.I take a similar approach to teaching reading, literature, and math. When working with students, I do all I can do demystify the process of learning a subject, working with them to uncover its inner logic and obtain the tools and knowledge they need to succeed as students. Finally, I think that learning is fun. I communicate that sense of enthusiasm to my students, so that they will be encouraged to exert the effort and focus necessary to achieve mastery over a subject. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, going to see theater, trying new restaurants, and exploring Boston.
Every student has their own set of skills and intelligences. Success in school, however, requires more than book smarts. You need insight into how teachers grade, strategies for how to attack assignments, and a plan for a success. With my years of experience in education and academia, I am the perfect choice to help you unlock those secrets and your full potential.
I was an economics major at Carleton College. Later, I earned an MBA in both Supply Chain Management and Finance. I am very pragmatic in my approach and relating to people is one of my passions. I've traveled through most of this country plus some 17 countries over 4 continents. My intuition is keen since I have become sensitive to how different people may perceive a situation differently. Consistently I find ways to communicate in a simple animated fashion that connects clearly and facilitates inspired learning.During the course of my career, I've done many software implementations that required creating and delivering a lot of disparate information among varying foreign audiences. Implementations require that different functional departments inside of a corporation to be trained to be productive. Assorted but connected new processes must be taught clearly to audiences of every level within the organization. Somehow, I creatively made complex tasks and complicated software easy to understand.I have done tutoring at a couple of local colleges in assorted subjects. Regularly, talk to people who live in other countries and need help with English. To me, it is a joy to meet people and help improve their lives.
I have been teaching for eight years, and nothing brings me greater joy than watching students grow into the readers, writers, and thinkers I know they can be. Most of that growth happens because I try to make the teaching environment a safe, comfortable, laughter-filled place where students can explore new ideas and express their thoughts and feelings. I find poetry particularly useful for that, and over and over again I have seen how students who resisted poetry when they walked into my classroom left at the end of the term with the sense that they would be reading poetry for the rest of their lives.
Teaching in various capacities since 2003, I combine legal expertise (class rank: top 20) and proven test strategies (UBE: 320, MPRE: 108) with compassion and creativity to elevate your legal acumen from good to great. With a law degree summa cum laude (Mitchell Hamline), a master's in public health (University of Minnesota), and an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from a top 10 liberal arts college (Carleton College), I have worked with K-12, college, graduate, and law students in 1:1, group, and classroom settings. My legal communication skills are second to none: I earned top oralist marks at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (the world's largest), provided strategic communications coaching to litigators in big tobacco cases, served as law journal writer and editor, and placed top-of-class in legal research & writing courses. Professionally, I've spent two decades in public affairs, government funding (grants, contracts), and sponsored research.
I am currently pursuing my PhD in Literature/Creative Writing at the University of Denver. Prior to beginning my doctoral studies, I was a creative writing/English lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis where I completed my MFA and senior post-graduate teaching fellowship. I received my BA in Philosophy from Carleton College in 2009. Before my time in St. Louis and Denver, I taught English Literature at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut and, earlier, at Germantown High School in Philadelphia. During my time at Loomis and Germantown, I taught English Lit I/III, Contemporary Literature, 10th grade grammar and expository writing seminars, Literature of the Sea, Experimental Novel, and Creative Writing. At Wash U, I taught Fiction Writing I, II, and Microfiction, and last year I facilitated pedagogy training for Wash U MFA graduate students. I currently tutor at DU's Writing Center and, beginning this fall, I will teach undergraduate fiction classes. I have a marked interest in modern and contemporary fiction, though I very much look forward to helping students with all craft/literature/essay writing/verbal test taking endeavors.
Hey there my name is Chad Stevenson, and I want you to know you are good at math. After teaching Algebra I/II for two years I'm ready to teach you not only how to boost your scores, but to also love math. I look forward to working with you.
Hello! My name is Arnav Bajaj and it is my great pleasure to have the opportunity to help you learn and achieve academic success. I recently graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Carleton College and am very passionate about helping people unlock their potential and achieve their dreams - one of my most rewarding experiences has been my work as an ESL instructor, successfully training multiple classes of students to speak english from scratch in the matter of a few months. Over my years in the formal education system, I have faced and successfully tackled many academic challenges including standardized testing (I achieved perfect or near perfect results on most of the tests I took despite starting with fairly average results on first attempt), developing good study skills, and much more. As a result of my own journey, I know for a fact how much more we are all capable of gaining and doing if we take the time to properly strategize our learning and cultivate confidence in our abilities. I look forward eagerly to helping you do the same and making a tangible difference in both your academic results and your personal learning experience!
I wish to teach students in a way that is both accessible and engaging. Through understanding them, I hope that I can make their subjects a little easier to understand, and I hope that by teaching them study strategies, they will be able to tackle all subjects they come across.
I've always had a passion for teaching, but it originally started as a passion for learning. I wanted to take every bit of information I could get my hands on and be able to understand it as well as use it in my daily life. Over time I gravitated to the topics that interested me the most, but still maintained an interest in the process of learning something new. My experience as a mentor, tutor, teaching assistant and college athlete has allowed me to work with students that exhibit many different learning styles. Through my approach and focusing on how students learn, I've been able to help students push themselves to new levels academically through taking the time to find what works best for them. Our students deserve the time and attention required to make sure they not only learn the information but also how to apply it. As a tutor it is my duty to work with students to get them to their goals and I can't wait to help you all achieve success.
I am positive and passionate. Everyday I strive to be a better person than I was the day before, doing everything from a desire to make the world a better place and to positively impact my environment. I am grateful, I celebrate life, and I practice transparency and candor. My words are congruent with my actions. My objective is to help others achieve their greatest potential.I earned my M.A. and Ph.D. from UT-Austin in Spanish Linguistics. I've taught beginning through graduate courses at the university level and in secondary schools I've taught Spanish 1-4 and AP Spanish Language and Culture. Along with teaching the courses, I've given extra help or tutoring during office hours and by appointment.I love to travel! I've lived in Costa Rica and visited many parts of Mexico, Spain and Puerto Rico. I love to hike and camp, walk on the beach, read, knit and bead. I especially love dance-able music (salsa, merengue, cumbia, charanga, etc.) and love to dance. I practice yoga and Qigong. Life is good!No matter what your objective for learning Spanish, I promise to help you obtain your goal.
I love teaching because I love seeing my students engaged with learning. I love to see the "aha" moments when they make connections and are proud of their accomplishments. I am a lifelong learner. I have a BA in Religion (Buddhism) from Carleton College and a MA in Languages and Cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have traveled to France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, and China. I've lived in a suburb of Paris, a small farming island of Japan, and also in Lhasa in the Tibetan region for one summer. I taught communications/writing and comparative religion at UW-Madison. Recently, I taught pre-K at a Reggio Emilia inspired school, where learning is child directed. Currently, I wake up very early to teach English as a foreign language to students in China. I love to see the strengths and potential in all people. I believe educators have the responsibility to support equity in education and I consider myself an ally to BIPOC, AAPI, Latinx, LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and other groups. I enjoy reading, writing, photography, gardening (especially with native plants), hiking, gaming, and spending time with my family. I look forward to meeting you!
I have always been very passionate about learning. Growing up hiking and exploring, my fascination with the natural world was at the forefront of my educational goals. I was always curious about the mixed deciduous forest in my backyard or the rock quarries my friends and I went to on school breaks. I guess it makes sense then that I went on to study geology and biochemistry at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. While my desire to engage with the natural world persists, this past fall I began an MD/PhD program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska to achieve my dream of becoming a physician-scientist. With a rich history of working as a tutor and mentor for students from a variety of backgrounds, I am incredibly excited to dedicate myself to helping students amidst one of the greatest public health crises of our time. I have worked with students at both ends of the academic spectrum on not only traditional classroom subjects but also in a 'future preparation and planning' context. I am passionate about finding the best way for a student to learn and often times that encourages me to get outside of my comfort zone and re-imagine the problems in a way my student can best understand them. I am patient, outgoing, a fast learner and am excited to be a resource for you and/or your student!
I graduated from Carleton College in the spring of 2020 with a degree in Political Science. For the past two years I've interned for a literary magazine called the Chicago Quarterly Review, considering story submissions and writing reader reports for the senior editor. Although currently living in Sag Harbor, I am in the process of applying to law school, with the goal of becoming either an attorney or a law professor. In my four years at Carleton, I tutored sixth graders in reading and math through the Northfield Tackling Obstacles and Raising College Hopes program (TORCH). I greatly enjoyed this experience, as I discovered my love of teaching. I tutor students of all ages in reading, math, government, and chess. In my sessions, I strive to encourage young people to arrive at ideas and solutions to problems themselves, with an emphasis on instilling habits of critical thinking and open-mindedness.Outside of academic pursuits, I have a love for blues guitar (Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan are my favorites), chess, and old movies.
I am a multi-media artist based in MN. I earned a BA in Cinema and Media Studies from Carleton College in 2016. In addition, I completed my IB diploma in 2012 from the International School of Geneva, Switzerland. I am passionate about teaching. As an artist, I am always seeking creative solutions to problems. This is part of why I am drawn to teaching. The act of teaching/tutoring requires creativity and awareness. As a tutor, I think it's important for me to be able to adapt my teaching methods to match the learning styles of my students and find dynamic ways to engage students with the subject material.
Hi! My name is Lauren and I am passionate about helping students build academic skills and intellectual confidence. I graduated from Carleton College with a degree in Geology. I have spent the last six years since then teaching science (along with a smattering of other subjects) to middle and high school students. I am currently taking a break from classroom teaching to pursue a master's degree in science communication and public engagement. I love learning and my goal is to help students feel similarly.
I am a PhD candidate in the field of English Literature, so I am a lifelong student, scholar, and writer. I have taught and tutored all age students, at a variety of preparedness levels. My role as a teacher is to provide the information each individual student needs, at the right time, to succeed.I am also a chess player, a cello player, and an ultimate frisbee player. I graduated from a liberal arts college (Carleton, near Minneapolis), which means that I experienced a tradition that values student perspectives and seeks to bring each individual to a conceptual space where (s)he can achieve by objective standards.I also believe very strongly that a teacher's primary obligation is for the safety and welfare of his/her students. This clear sense of my technique, my role, and my responsibility prepares me to help teach literature, critical reading, and essay writing in ways that create clear, safe opportunities for learning.
I would like to work with people who want to advance their Japanese knowledge and capabilities. I have lived for 18 years in Japan and can guide someone through the intricacies of the language. I have certified top level proficiency on the Japan Foundation Japanese Proficiency Test.
