With an M.S. in Computer Science and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, I bring over 25 years of experience to every session. I specialize in Algebra I through College Algebra, focusing on step-by-step procedures and real-world applications to make complex equations manageable. My goal is to provide students with both the standard methods and creative alternate strategies needed to master high school and college-level mathematics.

I read this quote at one point in my life and it just made sense to me and I feel it applies to most of the things we do in life. Never settle for failure always strive to succeed."Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it."-Mia Hamm
Over the course of the last 16 years, I have had experience with a variety of exams given to middle school and high school students ranging from 7th-8th grade ELA exams to the English Regents exam given in high school. Not only have I prepared more than 1500 students during that time, I have also had the opportunity to grade those very exams. That has given me the advantage of being able to share what the expectations and criteria are for success on those exams. As a father of two children within the NYC school system, I understand the value of providing children with additional opportunities to receive extra help beyond the classroom. I believe wholeheartedly that students who have the ability to receive individualized instruction often fare better than those who do not.
I believe that every student can learn if the right approach is used. Finding the right buttons for the student to push is the real job of the tutor.
Hi my name is Keegan Fernandes and Im a third year medical student. I love teaching a variety of subjects but my favorite subject is Biology. Hopefully we can learn a few things and make it an interactive process.
I am a graduate of CUNY College of Staten Island. I received my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a mathematics minor. During my time as an undergrad I would constantly aid and tutor other students with different mathematics, science, and engineering material. I am most passionate about circuit analysis, power, and mathematics. When tutoring students I make sure there is clear understanding of the question or topic at hand before moving on. I am a firm believer in continuous education, believing it to be not only satisfying but necessary especially in the engineering and mathematic fields.Since graduation I have taken and passed the FE Electrical and Computer examination, during my time preparing for this examination I have acquired different knowledge, material, and techniques that I would love to share with others as well.
I attended the College of Staten Island for my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and for my Master's Degree in Secondary Education. I also completed a minor in mathematics. I am in my eleventh year of teaching at a high school in Staten Island, NY. I teach Algebra, Geometry, Finance, and College Algebra. I enjoy working with students who struggle with the basics of math- I like to show struggling students ways to understand various methods of solving problems. I work well with students that have a negative feeling towards mathematics. I try to make learning math fun and enjoyable. I have tutored on and off over the past six years- working with students from grades three through twelve. During my free time I prefer to spend time outdoors- activities include hiking with my dogs, golfing, skiing, riding motorcycles, swimming, gardening, playing tennis, and gardening. I also enjoying knitting and reading books.
I'm here to help those that need a better understanding in the topics that seem too difficult to tackle alone. Rest assured you will end our session with a clear understanding. And to the parents please feel free to message me with any concerns that involve your child's education. I'm here to help every student!
I have over 23 years of ACT/SAT/PSAT tutoring experience, initially in a class setting with Kaplan, then, independently, as a personal tutor. I don't just give students problems and show them how to solve; rather, I teach them the basic concepts the problems are based on and ensure they have the skill sets to complete the problems independently. I have tutored ALL sections on both the SAT and ACT; I am a generalist: capable tutoring Critical Reading, Writing, Math or Science. I am a certified Teacher of the Handicapped in NJ and also hold a CE for general education.

In regards to my Bachelor, I majored in accounting, with minors in finance and economics. My master focused on elementary education. I am also a certified grant writer and a certified building administrator (ex. coaching, supervisor/Asst. Principal). I have always been passionate about educating myself, and others who I come into contact with. I am presently working on my doctorate in curriculum and instruction. My favorite subjects are Math and Reading. I truly believe that without mastering those two, one will always struggle with the other subjects. I have been an educator over 20 years and have had the pleasure of successfully sharing my knowledge with many students over the years. Every Saturday, I volunteer to serve at our neighborhood pantry. On a personal note, I have a wonderful 9yr old chihuahua named Candy who loves to play a lot. Life is great, but obtaining an education makes it even better!!
I'm Gihan! I have over 12 years of experience in teaching in the New York State public school system and working directly with students, one-on-one as a tutor! I offer tutoring services for children (regular and special needs), in grades KG-8 in all core subjects. My experience has enabled me to strengthen essential skills such as communication, engagement, delivery, & creativity, in order to perfect my craft of educating children. There is nothing more satisfying to me than instilling confidence in a child & the rewarding feeling of witnessing them have that "aha!" moment when finally grasping a topic, is why I do what I do.Being able to provide a one-on-one session for a child, giving them my full attention, and catering each specific lesson plan to meet their individual needs, is in my opinion the most effective way to educate. In my years of teaching and tutoring, I have received phenomenal feedback from both parents and students due to my efforts in constantly seeking more ways to keep students engaged, make learning fun, and most importantly, relating the topic at hand to everyday life so they understand WHY they are learning each topic.Having strong content knowledge about the required curriculum and relate it to their grade level standard is so important. Most of my experience is in teaching the Common Core curriculum. Therefore, utilizing new/in-depth mathematical tools such as Eureka math (also known as EngageNY) is something that I enjoy, as it makes it simple for students to relate to everyday lifeI want students and parents to know that I have a genuine interest in helping children and help them gain as much knowledge as possible. After all, they are our future and we as the adults all have to be mindful of the impact we have on each individual child's life and have their best interest at heart. I am only a message away if you are seeking my tutoring services and look forward to replying back as soon as possible!
