Hello, my name is Alex, and I want to help you learn! I am a licensed NYS Spanish Grades 7-12 teacher, and I also have experience tutoring ELA, Math, Science, and History. I want to work with you to figure out which learning strategies work best for you. I also want to make learning as enjoyable as possible for you, and together we can figure out the best study and time management strategies that work best for you!

I graduated in 2018 from CUNY-The New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education. And I just graduated at the university at Albany with a Master of Arts in mathematics general sequence. During the last semester of my undergraduate study, I did two internships one at the Urban Assembly Institute of Science and Mathematics for Young women and the other one at the International High School at Prospect Heights. During both internships I prepared lesson plans, I taught 8th graders and 12th Graders and tutored one on one as well as group of students. I liked Mathematics at a very early age, During my school and college years you can always find me tutoring my friends or my classmates Mathematics. Since then I developed a passion of teaching and tutoring math. And I believe that each students can excel in mathematics if he/ she is giving an opportunity to explore the concepts in depth and in more comprehensive way. And through repetition of more examples and exercises with the help of a tutor students can achieve academic success in mathematics.

I am a graduate of the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College. I attained my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences in 2020. Since graduation I have gone on to complete the first 2 years of medical school at the CUNY School of Medicine. I am passionate about tutoring cardiology and microbiology. I developed my love for cardiology when I interned at Mount Sinai Health center and evaluated many cardiovascular markers for heart disease. I've always enjoyed microbiology because I like to know the specific pathogens that cause disease. I am a strong believer in active learning and my tutoring style reflects that. Previously, he was an AI Researcher at the Meriles Lab at CCNY under Prof. Carlos Meriles. Prior to this, he numerically solved the generalized Brachistochrone Problem, and his solution was accepted for the 2023 Issue of the AAPT Journal "The Physics Teacher". I have an associate's in Computer Information Systems and a bachelor's in Computer Systems Technology with a software engineering focus from CUNY New York City College of Technology. I served as a teaching assistant at CodePath, working with cohorts ranging from 50 to 200 students. I led office hours and tutoring sessions, from 1-on-1 to small group settings, teaching logic, coding in Java, Android development, problem-solving, and even training junior developers and college students. Many years ago I began my career as an educational specialist with the New York City Department of Probation and I provided tutorial services for juvenile delinquents involved in the juvenile court system. Although the youngsters were court mandated to attend a computer lab for tutorial services they were not required to participate in activities once they completed the tutoring lab, However, I wrote a play about going back to school after summer break, and all the participants agreed to perform in the play. I expressed interest in them and recognized they all had abilities despite their setbacks. It was my belief in them that kept them returning and participating when they didn't have to . I hold true to this same philosophy today and display it with students I am working out. I have a firm conviction that every individual on this earth was born with the ability to succeed and I approach my tutorial sessions with the same belief which I have carried with me all of these years.

When I think of myself as a reader and a teacher of readers, I think of the people who sowed the reading seed in my life as well as the conditions for learning that were necessary for me to become the reader that I am today. I also think about all the seeds that I am sowing as I work with young people each and every day. I think about how important the work is that I do, that work , that magic teachers conjure up when reading books aloud. The worlds that they create that whisk students off and take them places they've never been before. What a privilege, honor and awesome responsibility it is! I'm also reminded of a quote by Robert Louis Stevenson that sums it all up: "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." Like Mrs. Rumphius, a character from a book written by Barbara Cooney, I plant the reading seed because I must "do something to make the world more beautiful". This is why I am passionate about reading and writing instruction.
