Hi! My background includes a Bachelor's degree in English from Roosevelt University, and a Master's degree in Writing and Publishing from DePaul University. In late 2019, I had the opportunity to work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the College of Lake County (for an English Composition I class). I also had the honor and privilege of working as a Peer Writing Tutor for DePaul University's Writing Center. I collaborated with both Undergraduate and Graduate students of all studies/disciplines on any writing-based projects, both personal and academic. I provided writing support to clients with the goal of helping them become even more successful writers in school and beyond. Currently, I am working as tutor in a freelance capacity. Over the past year, I have worked with dozens of students on the following platforms: Tutor.com, TutorMe and Smarthinking. I helped clients with brainstorming writing ideas, providing sources, improving writing quality, and developing argumentation skills.I firmly believe that learning should be fun. Nothing motivates learners as much as fun does because it comes from genuine interest from within instead of pressure from others. Students are much more likely to invest extra time in the learning process if they enjoy it.

As a tutor, a teacher, and a mother, I am committed to the world of education. It has been most rewarding to tutor my students in English, literature, and writing. I firmly believe that students learn best when engaging in material that is meaningful to them. I help my students to find relevancy in what they're learning, and I always tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of the student. Outside of education, I enjoy practicing meditation, cooking, and expressing myself through bonsai and wood burning art.
I am currently a full-time 5th grade math and science teacher during the school year. I have been tutoring for over 7 years now. It is important to me for all of my students to grasp the concept they are struggling with, to the fullest extent. This can be accomplished by implementing a variety of strategies and methods. I look forward to working with you.

I believe that in writing, communicating your own unique voice through word is of the upmost importance, and it is my goal as a tutor to help that voice shine. bell hooks once wrote in 'Teaching to Transgress,' "As a classroom community, our capacity to generate excitement is deeply affected by our interest in one another, in hearing one another's voices, in recognizing one another's presence." My teaching strategies are flexible, allowing me to adapt to whatever my students bring to the table. I also believe in the power of setting goals. Finally, I strive to take complex problems and make them simple for students, with clear explanations and helpful tips and tricks. In 2013, I graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with a double major in French and foreign affairs. I really believe the desire to learn comes from within, especially when unfamiliar topics are tied with things in the real world. I try to reinforce these connections.Outside of work and school, I love to play video games and stay active. I love lifting weights and playing basketball and try and find time to join competitive rec leagues when I can.

Writing clearly and efficiently is the key to effective communication. My warm and compassionate approach to tutoring empowers writers to use their resources, work within genre conventions and work through their own ideas in order to write so other people can pick up what they are putting down. Through the development of an understanding context, audience, and purpose one can learn how to master the ability to write well.

It's been over five years since I graduated college and I can honestly say that I miss it. I miss learning. And I miss the free and open discussion with my classmates. Not everyone's experience with school is as positive as mine was, but I don't believe that learning should be a struggle.Going to school builds an academic base for your future and it sets you up for the way you will live the rest of your life. But learning doesn't have to be a chore. I believe that, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, any problem can be overcome. I believe that learning how to problem-solve and how to think through your problems is more important than the rote memorization of facts. And I believe that tenacious, hardworking students make successful adults.I would love to help you in your process of learning, creative and growth.
It is my personal goal to instill confidence, encouragement, goal setting, provide support, and push students toward their personal growth for the present and for the future.
In 2015 I graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Chemistry. During the course of my degree I taught multiple classes and was a walk-in tutor for the Science and Math learning center. In my years of being a teacher and a student I've found there is always more than one way to explain any given subject. Moreover, since everyone comes from a different background some explanations make more sense than others to different people. With me as your tutor I will find a way to explain science and math concepts that make the most sense to you.
I am currently studying psychology with concentration in human development at DePaul University, with the intention of becoming a psychologist. I have extensive tutoring experience at DePaul's writing center, and have taken classes which help fine-tune my tutoring skills; I work with a diverse population of students, on a wide variety of writing-based projects. My favorite subject to tutor would be anything related to reading or writing, as these are the subjects I have the most experience with. I am a strong believer of the fact that anyone who writes anything is a good writer, and that with patience and guidance, they will absolutely reach their full potential. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, spending time with my friends, and exploring my hometown, the city of Chicago.
I am a graduate from DePaul university with a master's degree in physics. It was there that I had my first experiences with teaching. I worked as a teaching assistant for a full year, during which I helped teach a full introductory physics sequence. I enjoy teaching because it allows me to communicate with students about physics and examine the material from new angles. My style of teaching involves discussion rather than lecture, and it encourages students to form conclusions themselves. Being presented outright with solutions to difficult problems is extremely ineffective and the information is unlikely to be retained. By encouraging students through insightful questions and hints, an effective teacher can allow those students to reach conclusions on their own and develop an understanding of how things work. Along the way, I supplement my lessons with as many visual aids and practical demonstrations as possible, to ensure that learning is enjoyable, even while being challenging. As of now, the only subject I am qualified to teach is physics, however I have extensive knowledge of mathematics and programming and I would be open to learning to tutor in those subjects someday. Outside of academia, I enjoy music, having played piano for most of my life, and travelling. I also have a great interest in astronomy, with that being the main focus of the research projects I was a part of during my education.
I aim to increase understanding and retention of information as well as developing not just the skills to solve a specific problem, but the mindset needed to then solve all future problems. Also, I try and make the process as enjoyable as possible!
As a writing tutor and Composition and Literature professor at Wright College in Chicago for twelve years, I was dedicated to helping students at all stages of the writing process. I can help during the beginning stages when a writer may be confused about an assignment, all the way to the end when they need to polish an essay before submitting it, and all the moments in between. I cover a variety of topics and writing techniques, including thesis development, finding/citing sources, brainstorming, and proofreading for syntax, grammar, clarity, and tone. I have tutored students across the entire college curriculum, not just English: History, Biology, and even tech classes are well known to me. I also specialize in working with ESL students and high school students doing AP English Language and Composition. My educational background is a Master's degree from DePaul University in Writing and Publishing and a Bachelor's from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Creative Writing. I hail from the greater Chicago area, and I am a senior at DePaul University studying Computer Science and Game Development. While programming is exciting to me, one of my other passions is teaching the math and science subjects that accompany Computer Science. I learned very early on that it wasn't the material that was most essential to learning, but it is the proper learning environment that really pushes students to do their best. That is the goal of my tutoring sessions: to create an environment where it's great to ask questions, and perfectly okay to not quite get it at first.
