I am a skilled mentor and teacher. As an attorney, I currently handle sustainability law, environmental law and contracts. I have experience with developing mission sustainability plans for U.S. military bases that enhance long-term sustainability of testing and training operations. I have developed workshops and educational programs on goal setting, plan implementation, and stakeholder development. I have presented at national conferences on the topic of climate change adaptation planning and water management planning in water-stressed areas. I have also volunteered as an AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador for the state of New Jersey and assessed the health of neighborhood streams in the Rancocas Creek Watershed, taught in the classroom and educational workshops on a variety of environmental issues, and trained citizen volunteers of all ages in the science of stream monitoring. In college, I was a member of the ROTC program. Upon graduation, I was commissioned as an officer in the Army. My military stint included a tour of duty in the Republic of Korea.

Hi! My name is Brooke, and I am a 9th Grade ELA teacher in New York City. I grew up in Rhode Island, and went to college in Pennsylvania. I love to read and write, and I am passionate about passing my love of literature on to my students. I am also passionate about giving them the skills necessary to think critically about the world. I want to push my students to solve complex problems, and never settle for less than their potential. I love to tutor students who may need help in my spare time, because it allows me to continue helping students! I know the value of out-of-school support and I want to help provide that to as many students as possible!
After graduating from Dickinson College in 2016, I spent four years in the Providence Public School District, the last three of which I taught high school English. I have extensive experience helping students identify and break down the root causes of learning blocks; in my three years, I led my classes to achieve an average of 21% growth in writing scores over the year prior. When I began my LSAT journey, I studied hard, but ineffectively. I used my skillset as a teacher to identify my own learning blocks, and develop and reinforce sustainable practices. It was only then that I significantly improved. I believe a knowledgable, attentive tutor is often the needed momentum behind a student reaching her/his full potential. I can help you get there through fundamental technique, mental resilience, planning, and diligence. When I'm not tutoring, I'm playing or watching sports (does Rocket League count?), creating music with my band, and preparing for law school interviews!
I am a graduate of Dickinson College and a current student at Longy School of Music of Bard College. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson in Anthropology and Music - Vocal Performance, and am now pursuing my Master of Music degree in Voice Studies. Between graduating from Dickinson and matriculating at Longy, I worked in the Education department at Port Discovery Children's Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. There, I wrote and facilitated many programs for school and camp groups, birthday parties, Scout groups, and volitional guests. The programs' subject matter spanned all subjects from the Maryland State curriculum and Girl and Cub Scout badge requirements, from Pre-K through 5th grade. In addition, I have previous experience in educational outreach programming; camp counseling; teaching theatre classes; and tutoring. While I love teaching and tutoring in any subject, I am most drawn to English (Literature, Creative Writing, Reading Comprehension), History and Social Studies, and Music. As a tutor, I love helping students find tools to become their best selves, and I believe in building on our strengths to bolster our weaknesses. I am passionate about equitable education for all because I believe it opens your world: to new opportunities, new ways of thinking, and new ways to improving life for yourself and your communities.
I believe the role of an educator, whether as a teacher or administrator, is to facilitate learning and growth by presenting information in a variety of ways that create interest in each individual student and in the class as a whole. Information that is portrayed in ways that are interesting and relevant to students is more meaningful and has a greater likelihood of being absorbed and retained. Through this instruction and example, students can follow their curiosity and exercise their imaginations and ideals as they develop as scholars, artists and athletes. I believe that progressive education is the ideal facilitator for this process of personal growth, and democratic participation of students in the classroom.I personally have a passion for learning and part of my role as an educator is to project that to my students, encouraging them to seek the same for themselves. I expect students to be accountable for their own efforts both in and outside of the classroom. Since students come from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures and upbringings, lessons and classroom exercises should be presented in a variety of different ways to meet their different learning styles. In the modern age where technology is constantly changing, educators like myself can use devices such as smartboards, projectors and other items, to better enhance the learning atmosphere inside the classroom. Studying both Spanish when I was an Undergraduate, and now Liberal Arts Studies as a Graduate student, allows me to better present a hands on and visual learning environment inside the classroom so that students can make the most of their academic experience. As an educator, my goal is to help students develop a strong interest for learning that they can carry with them through the rest of their educational careers. I believe finding the right balance of instruction in the classroom is attainable by a combination of organized planning, hands on activities and strong motivation to be a part of the learning process.
As an enthusiastic educator with a Bachelor's in English from Dickinson College, I have over two years of experience tutoring students across various levels, specializing in English, Literature, and Writing. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive environment that empowers students to articulate their thoughts and refine their writing abilities. I find immense joy in witnessing their progress, as I believe every student has the potential to become a confident writer. My approach is tailored to meet individual needs, particularly for multilingual and ESL learners. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, learning new languages, experimenting with recipes, and hiking, all of which enrich my perspective as an educator.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. After college I joined a Tri-Institutional Ph.D. program in Chemical Biology where I carried out my coursework at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and the research portion of my degree was performed at The Rockefeller University in New York City. After completing my Ph.D. in the Spring of 2013 I then moved back to Massachusetts, which is where I grew up. While obtaining my degrees I have taught and mentored students in science from a variety of different age groups. These experiences have taught me how to tailor my teaching methods to a particular student. I chose to pursue a career in science because it is a subject I find interesting and exciting. I have spent the last 10 years advancing my understanding of Biology and Chemistry and I enjoy using this knowledge to help make science less confusing and more fun for others. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family and spending time outdoors playing with my dog, going on runs and skiing.
I am Latina and grew up in a bicultural and bilingual household; my mom is from Costa Rica and my dad is from the US. For this reason, I have a deep appreciation for new cultures as well as new languages.I am a graduate of Dickinson College where I received my Bachelor of Science in Math with a minor in Spanish. During my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Ecuador and Argentina. One of my most profound experiences of this time was serving as an Education Intern at Fundacin Sobran Motivos in Mendoza, Argentina, a refugee center for women who were sexually abused. I increased efficiency in the English teaching program as well as designed and implemented English classes. During college summers, I worked as a Youth Leader at Casa San Jose (a nonprofit Latino organization) in Pittsburgh, PA. I tutored Math and English, entirely in Spanish for students ranging from elementary school to high school.Upon graduation from college, I was granted a Fulbright Scholarship as an English Teaching Assistant at Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga Colombia. At this university, I was an assistant for English classes, American Studies classes, as well as Culture classes. I also tutored faculty and staff at the university and held workshops and language clubs. I am currently an ESL teacher for Open English where I tutor English to students ranging from 8-14 across Latin America.I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching English and Spanish (as I am bilingual). I have some experience tutoring math and as a college math major, I am confident in my abilities to provide this type of tutoring. I am passionate about creating bilateral relationships and exchanges and I think languages do just this and math is such a universal language of its own.I love working with all ages. My teaching approach has been inspired by the work of Paulo Freire where he challenges the notion of teacher as expert whose primary role is to disseminate knowledge to students who are passive recipients of the teacher's great wisdom. Instead, Freire imagines a bilateral relationship in which teachers enable students to become actively involved in the production of knowledge. In my spare time, I love rock climbing, teaching and practicing yoga, running, and traveling.
I began my derivatives career with O'Connor & Associates, the Chicago-based pioneer of options trading and risk management becoming a floor member of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange trading single stock options and futures. My training began in the trading pit, side by side senior traders for whom I would be responsible for tracking delta positions, hedging trades, communicating with the partners, and learning options theory to prepare for a three-week intensive in house options course in Chicago with a peer group. We were close-knit, collaborative and hand-picked for what would be a rigorous and unique learning experience to set a foundation for our respective quantitative trading roles. I became a market maker, providing liquidity to the public orders, a specialist, keeping an orderly book of all public orders, and floor manager, overseeing the daily operations. The environment was dynamic, highly demanding, requiring laser focus, preparation and stamina. An integral member of the firm, collaborating with other member firms and the Board of Governors, serving on committees, worked on new business initiatives, recruiting and training new hires from top universities. At the time, O'Connor was the largest market maker in the U.S. financial options exchanges and had been looking to partner with a larger financial institution. The firm entered into a joint venture with Swiss Bank creating the opportunity to become part of a newly formed global team deployed as financial engineers in various financial centers - Chicago, Zurich, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong. My assignment was in the bank's headquarters of Zurich, Switzerland within the Treasury Group where I priced, hedged, executed, and made markets on OTC derivatives, structured product and warrants held by the coveted AAA balance sheet. This multi-year experience proved to be mutually beneficial both to my professional career, as it was for the bank's global securities businesses (particularly US Equities and Swiss Treasury) that I diligently represented resulting in increasing customer business and attractive risk adjusted return on capital (RAROC). My career trajectory continued to expand beyond US domestic equity markets into global markets - Asia, Latin America, Europe as well as into other asset classes FX, Commodities, Fixed Income dictated by customer investment policies, the liberalization of markets, and the respective risk books. I accepted new business roles and appointments and was later recruited to work with other global derivatives groups (Deutsche, HSBC) overseeing Corporate Derivatives programs, customer options activities, European research produced in the UK for US institutional client.
